  1. Sorry I pressed "enter" by accident...

I received my green card a couple of days ago, but I have had no update on the EAD or the AP since the NOA1/biometrics. I know it doesn't matter now that I have the green card, but it's almost as if it doesn't even matter that I applied for them and spent hundreds of dollars on the applications. Are they already lumping all the applications in together? What a waste of money and time!

Also, I went to the SSA office yesterday to update my card status and the guy told me that I was actually ALLOWED to work during the 90days that I'm in the US on the K1 Visa! He said that I didn't need the work authorization stamp for those 90 days because those are the rights of people on the K1 -- is this true or am I once again being told things that aren't the facts?

  2. I had to take an eye exam and do a written test to get my Hawaii DL. Some of the multiple choice answers made me giggle, for example:

When is it legal to drink while driving?

    1) Never

    2) In the back of the pick up truck

    3) Only on the highway

    4) When you are a passenger

This is not surprising since nobody here wears helmets while they are on their motorcycles or scooters and there are always huge groups of people sitting in the back of pick up trucks, usually drinking.

  3. Hi Kimmbo,

I brought my puggle (pug x beagle) to Hawaii with me in December when my K1 visa was approved. Hawaii is a rabies free state and has a very strict quarantine law, however, with very careful planning "Elvis" was immediately released from the airport in Honolulu. His papers were more complicated than the whole immigration process!!! I hated that I had to leave him in the luggage storage area for 6 hours in a kennel on the plane, but I am so glad I did it because I now have him with me, and he loves it over here. So, no, I don't think you are crazy at all...I think you are a wonderful parent!

(PS I love scrapbooking too! Your stuff blows mine out of the water!!)

  4. Hey good luck, you guys will do just fine! All I can say is don't wear a belt...or boots because they always set off the metal detector.

See if you can take up on any of the Vancouver dine-out specials and try some nice restaurants -- man, I REALLY miss the food in Vancouver.

  5. Hi there...

Just wondering if anyone has tried to obtain a passport while living in the US because of their new surname after marriage...I'm not sure if I am supposed to add the new surname for the fee of $12 and send in my current passport, or should I try and get a new passport altogether? Thanks in advance...

  6. Hi,

I'm just embarking on the whole EAD/AP/AOS journey and am completely overwhelmed!!! I'm starting off with the "easy" forms first, ha ha.

Question about what to provide for:

    a) "copy of any document issued to you by the USCIS showing your present status in the US" and

c)"if you are an applicant for adjustment of status, a copy of the USCIS receipt as evidence that you filed the adjustment application". (How can I when I am going to apply for all 3 simultaneously?")

Or if someone really has some time can you give me a breakdown of what I need to send in with the AP???

    Mahalo!

  7. Hi smallcan,

I'm actually doing the same thing next week, except I'm only driving it to Seattle to ship it off to Hawaii. My car is a GM and my letter cost around $70, but it was a speedy process. You will also need an EPA form and DOT form (HS-7 i think). Plus when you get to the border I think there is another form to fill out but apparently it is quick and they will have those available to you. Good luck.

  8. That is such great news!!! I'm so happy for you! Well, mine is the day after tomorrow and I thought I'd be cool as a cucumber but the closer I get to the date the more nervous I'm getting...anyway, good for you! (F)
