  1. Hi Tracy

sorry not to have replied earlier but things are now getting hectic with only a few days to go. First of all tell your mom not to worry at all, it really is a doddle, basically all they asked me about was my grandkids, just general chatter, was I retiring out there (don't I wish) or was I going to work. As long as all your paperwork is in order it is easy, not like we have to prove our relationship like fiances do

good luck to your mom, but please tell her to try and relax about it, the worse thing is the queue outside and the waiting

    Thanks - that was quick!

I will let her know and she, I'm sure, will be relieved!! I told her that she should be fine, and that she doesn't really have anything to prove.

It's the unknown that worries her. I told her that she'll get more hassle with the kids not leaving her alone than she will by the immigration!!

Thanks again, and have a safe trip and a wonderful new life!!

    Tracey

  2. further to my recent enquiries....the consulate have advised police certificates for ALL countries...so I have now sent to Germany and Gibraltar- these can take 3-4 weeks - i wished i got them earlier ...but c'est la vie!!!

I am having my mum apply to Singapore for one - not sure what that will achieve though..... it was over 40 years ago and came in on my dads army id card, no passport, visa nothing. I highly doubt that they even have any record of her in the country...... all good fun!

  3. I apologise in advance as this must be a constantly repeated question.

I have had conflicting advice and have resorted to trying to email the consular for clarification.

My problem relates to the fact that during my first marriage i spent two periods abroad as part of his job ( RAF Postings). I was under the impression as RAF police are present on all postings abroad that any issues would be recorded and dealt with by the RAF Police and therefore find themselves recorded in UK. Has anyone else experienced this? and can anyone advise?

I have been told that as it was under the auspicies HM Forces that the police certificate for the UK will suffice...

I have also been told that I need to contact the RAF Police Henlow Admin

I have been told so many differening things what i am hoping is that someone here has had a similar situation and can advise what they did?

    Thanks and apologies

I am in the process of applying for a visa for my mother. She is in a somewhat similar position (except my father has since passed) so I'll be interested to hear if you know anything else.....

From what I understand, taking the discharge papers should cover you. I'm not sure though if you went to other countries other than Germany (my mum was in Singapore in the 60s).

I would try to get the discharge papers though anduse that - better to be covered.....

    But yes

  4. Thanks for the heads up! We are SW Washington, but I was just saying to my hubbie tonight that it's time for another Seattle trip soon (LOVE that City!), so we might have to do a side trip too.....

Our local 30mile away local Brit store sometimes has it, but is hit or miss. Never have any crisps though - that's what I really miss. Thankfully, I have a friend over there that sends me a box full and adds some Yorkshire Gold too!

Yep, beer.... miss some decent beer, but they sell Newcastle now, so all is not lost.

    Have fun in the UK!

first of all. I think I noticed Glitter star mention IrnBru and I saw Seattle. If you ever venture to snohomish, there is a place called Piccadillly Circus Pub & restaurant and apparently they have Irn Bru. I haven't been there and never tried Irn Bru. However it could be like how US Guinness is....weak. lol (as in when they import it they make it all pastuerized and nasty)

What I miss (even if I am American)....

    Decent Sausages!!!!

Galaxy which THANK GOD I can drive 30 min to get at the local (sorta) British shop. (I guess they have their own sausages too but I have yet to try them)

Yorkshire tea (THANK GOD they have that too)

a Decent Pint! lol (like Guinness without pasteurization)

.....and MOST of all...my Fiance as he is still over there...but I suppose he is not food or drink...but its something I miss from the UK anyway. :crying: (going over for Valentines though!! )

one more thing..... TANGO!!!! lol nothing matches it.

  5. I have not posted much here at all, but I have gotten a wealth of information from everyone - so thank you so much for that!!

My Mother's I-130 has just been completed at the NVC on 12/22!! It took just about three weeks (was entered into the system on 11/27). I wasn't expecting any news for another week or so, I am super excited!!

Thanks for letting me share my happy news!

    Tracey

  6. Yes, the NVC sent me the DS-230 Part one and it looks like she has to provide the bio page of her passport. I am going to send her the form and have her send it back..... I was just hoping to shorten the time on the process.

Thanks for your reply- and good luck on your journey!

    -Tracey

Hi My mom is also on the process of her IR5 visa application here in the philippines and i am the one assisting her. was the DS-230 has a part I & II and with a barcode sheet, right?

You have to send or mail that to her, her signature is very impt on the Part I the biographic data. Was the DS-230 also includes supporting documents that she need to submit together with the DS-230?

and most questions there i think its only your mom who can answers or can collect informations.

  7. My only issue is Medical Insurance for my Mum as she will be 70 this year. She doesn't have any other family living close to her and we just can't leave her there on her own.

Mine is 78. Came to the conclusion that it was impossible for this very reason. Actually wondering if I can survive here to anything like that age.

Just wondering what your solution is?

Hi 'Boiler' & 'lmegac', My sit is similar. My mum is 66, but no family close, I have a brother in the UK (far though) and one in Asia. So far, the plan is to pay for insurance either through an ex-pat group or one here and then when she is eligible to apply for citz. it should be easier for her...... at least I hope so!

  8. I am from just over the river in WA - my oath ceremony is next week up in Seattle - yay!!

It took 4 months from start to finish, and my NOA too 284 days.

Hang in there!! I heard too that Portland have a same day oath ceremony if you are approved early enough in the day!
