  1. Hello everyone! This is way too late to join and respond to this topic but I am currently preparing my I-751 (removal of conditional status on my green card). I am into great confusion if I have to legally change my name (file in the Family/Probate Court Department) so I can use my husband's last name or should I just assume it and write it on the form. Most of my friends from other states told me I dont have to legally change because I have our marriage certificate as a proof. I just want to be safe and sure/ So, if there is anyone who had the same experience...please help.

The reason I did not use my husband's last name, its because I was not able to change last name in SSS and my husband and I thought that its really important. So my conditional green card is my maiden name and all of my IDs - state ID, bank accounts, work and school records.

I really wanted to use my husband's last name because, we always have to explain we are legally married and I am using my maiden name due to immigration issues.

I am calling to all Filipinas, you know our culture in Ph, we make our unmarried last name to be our middle name. I want to do the same thing but when I called USCIS call center, the representative told me to send a court document that legally allows me to use my unmarried last name to be my middle name. So I thought, I really have to file for legal change of name including the use of my husband's last name.

But maybe, if I retain my birth middle name and use my husband's last name without having to change anything else, then I can just write on the form I-751 my birth given names-birth middle name-husband's last name?

    PLEASE HELP ME.

    Maria
