  1. That's what I was thinking - that as long as the income was good, it'd be ok. I think I'm just concerned that it'll delay things if I don't include it.

There is no requirement for relationship letter as anyone with good income and US citizenship can be Joint sponsor. You really do not need to send letter explaining relationship if your aunt is your joint sponsor.

I think I'm just going to get a letter notarized that I'm writing myself because getting my aunt to do it will take too long and prolong the process even more.

Hmm. I don't know if its changed now since my relatives have yet to get an interview. But, a few years ago, my aunt went for her interview and they gave her a 221g saying she needs to come back with a relationship letter. So, for all our family cases after that we've been including one.

Also, I noticed that on the welcome letter checklist, they ask for one which is why we've provided it this time as well.

  2. Yes, the petitioner should always fill out an I-864 with supporting documentation even if the income is not enough to sponsor.

Yes, the list of documents on the cover sheet in the welcome package asks for relationship letter. So just write up a letter and have it notarized.

Do you think having the letter notarized is important? Can I write the relationship letter and notarize it myself with the clarifications of who is who?

    Thanks!!

  3. I just received a letter for my mother petition I-130 from NVC. It includes a list of documents that I have to submit which some of the are not applicable. Do I need to submit all this documents again? Since I submitted them to the USCIS already. Does anyone have a list of docs to be sent to the NVC for a mother petition?

you should have a document cover sheet that was sent to you by the NVC. I am also doing an ir-5 for my mother. You have to send financial documents - including the affidavit of support, tax returns, and a birth certificate. This site has everything listed

    Good luck

  4. Hi everyone,

I applied for my mother to come to the US and another family member agreed to be the financial sponsor. I just found out that this family member is planning on filing for bankruptcy (chapter 7 bankruptcy - which would be credit card related). The family member will still have full time employment at a salary of 60k +

Does anyone know how this will affect the case for my mother?

  5. What age were you and your stepbrother when your mother and stepfather married? And what is your stepbrothers age at this time? Generally it would be faster for your mother to sponsor your stepbrother when she becomes an LPR.

I was over the age of 18 when my mother married my stepfather. My stepbrother was under the age of 18 at the time of marriage. Thanks for the info.

Your mother can't bring her them with her based on the petition you filed.

If your step father married your mother before you turned 18 then you can file a separate petition for him.

Also, once your mother receives her GC, she can file petitions for your step father and step brother.

Ok thank you - sounds like we'll have to wait because I was over the age of 18.

  6. Hello Everyone,

This is my first time using these boards - so I apologize if this question was asked before.

I'm a US citizen and I applied for my mother to come to the US and so far we are in the NVC processing phase. My question is about my mother's husband (my stepfather). I added his name to the paperwork as well as his son's (my stepbrother's) name.

Essentially - when my mother gets approved, can she bring my stepfather and stepbrother with her? Is there anything I can do for them as well?

    Thank you for any insight.
