His greencard will be issued automatically, but it can be up to three months until the physical card arrives in the mail.  In the meantime, the stamp on the visa page in his passport acts as a temp greencard for a year.

His SSN should arrive within a month, but if you need it quicker, give it about ten days from his arrival for paperwork to trickle through, and then visit the SS office, they should be able to tell you his number.

Thanks very much. I thought I had to complete the I-485 form for him?

You're welcome. It is really simple.

Go to www.uscis.gov and familiarize yourself with the form and the process. Follow the removing conditions subforum on here and you can read other people's replies as to what each individual sent as evidence.

I don't like suggesting evidence because every couple's situation, and life is unique. And there is no right or wrong evidence to submit. The government is looking for anything you can send to demonstrate a bona fide marriage

    Thanks X 2!

Please read the instructions on the form. It specifically states what is required to submit as initial evidence.

Download the Form I-751 Instructions, and read them carefully, before filling it out. It tells you what initial evidence is required to be submitted, and it gives examples.

As always, send copies, do not send originals

    Thanks.

You need to file form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Lawful Permanent Residence.

Form I-485 is to adjust status. The forms are actually not confusing at all and straightforward. I would download and go over the instructions for form I-751 before actually filling it out.

As it is stated on the form and the instructions, you may only file the petition within 90 days of the expiration of her conditional green card.

So if it expires in December 2017, the earliest you can file it is September 2017, so next month. Do not send it early or USCIS will send it back to you. Do not send it late, or her status will be terminated.

When you send your Form I-751, make sure you include evidence.

What form is evidence is usually requested or required? Or effective?

  5. My step-son (age ten) immigrated this past week (IR2) to the US from the Dominican Republic. (He immigrated approximately one year eight months after his mother (my spouse) who is about to apply for removal of conditions for the permanent ten-year visa.)

Do I need to apply for a Green Card for him? Or is this issued automatically?  If so, which form do I use? I requested that a social security number be assigned with his visa application. How can I determine if this will be issued, and how long does it usually take before one is issued?

    Thank you!

  6. My wife received her two-year visa (IR1) with subsequent Green Card in December 2015 and we now need to remove conditions for the permanent ten-year visa. Which form do we complete? form I-751 or form I-485? It's a bit confusing. I'm a U.S. citizen.

Also, can the form in question be submitted before the three-month period prior to expiration (December 2017)?

    Thanks!

  7. I think your application will be sent to the US for processing. I may be wrong, but if you have been told otherwise then you may be working directly with the embassy in SD. This would be something to check with USCIS. I'm not sure how it may work if the application is sent to the embassy. Did you send the application to the US Embassy in SD or USCIS in US?

Drink a lot of cold water!

  8. Make sure that you have translations of all official documents, including marriage and birth certificates. The marriage and birth certificates must be official with the stamp/seal on the back of each. Available in Santo Domingo.

The photos are excellent. This will help you during interview as will text or Whatsapp transcripts. Receipts for travel, including airline, hotel, groceries, etc. can also help. Bring all with you to interview. Make sure you are well organized. Put stuff in folders.

Very important is to follow directions and instructions. If you have any questions, call the NVC (where your case will be assigned)and reach out to the great folks here on Visa Journey. I'm always happy to help you. I've been through one immigration case with my wife, and now again with her son. Well probably be getting updates about the same time.

Please use mosquito repellent. Carry with you everywhere you go. Reapply often. Cover your ankles. Wear long pants and socks. Sleep with netting over you. My wife and I just returned from the island. We are trying to conceive now, and my test was negative (thank goodness). Make sure you are tested when you return. If you are careful, all will be well.

  9. You'll receive an acceptance notification from USCIS. The notice will inform you that the case has been accepted, and a case number. Then it is sent to one of several Visa processing centers around the country. Hopefully you have received the notification by now. Have patience. The USCIS is responsive and will let you know if something is missing or has not been completed properly.

  10. Congratulations on your wife's visa. Awesome. My wife received hers on 3 November.

I would recommend to you and your wife to get the app, Whatsapp. It's only $ 1.00. She can text or call you, and you will have no problem receiving messages or phone calls immediately. The app has phone or text capability, and there's no charge for either. Go get it, hombre. She can call you and tell you where she is in the concourse by what's around her.

It will also save you major $$$ whenever your wife calls the RD.

Make sure to tell her to charge her phone before her flight, and not to play Candy Crush on the plane!

  11. Make sure to send the Extensa (long) form of your marriage and birth certificates. Have them legalized at the Civil Registry Office in Santo Domingo. If you follow the instructions carefully, you will be fine. You now need to have patience, which is probably the most difficult and important parts of the process. I made a mistake by not sending the Extensa forms of my wife's birth certificate and our marriage certificate, and this mistake set us back about two months. We had our interview on November 3, we were approved, and my wife's visa was issued very, very quickly--just two days later. She picked it up at a local Mail Boxes Etc. and had it in hand on November 6. I am impressed with the efficiency of the US Embassy in Santo Domingo. I am grateful and applaud their efforts. Very happy with how we were treated. Four-hour interview process, but all was worth the wait.

I'm guessing that you should anticipate a CC anywhere from now until the January or February. It seems to me that it will happen soon for you. It usually takes close to a year from the initial submission to USCIS, but it could be shorter depending on the NVC case load and the particular nature of your case. Call the NVC if you gave questions. Don't get frustrated. Good things will happen soon. Visa Journey is a tremendous resource for information and emotional support. We're all here to help each other.

  12. I was able to schedule the VAC for a friday and the interview for the following monday after the VAC (3 days after/ over the weekend). Is this a mistake??? Should I do the VAC a minimum number of days before the interview? Please advise, I already bought my plane tickets but I will change if it needed, thank you.

Not at all. You'll be fine. My wife had her VAC appointment on October 28 and our interview was on November 3. All went fine. For your interview bring evidence in the form of photos, Western Union receipts, anything that establishes proof of relationship.

  13. hey guys so i paid my fees last month already and completed the ds260 last week i just mailed the aos/iv package today how soon do you think i will get a cc i see people saying it was 21 days and it going up due to backlog to get a cc and is it true that they need the package to review the ds260 even though it was submitted last week a little confused sorry thanks

Yes, atorres. The NVC needs all supporting documents in order to make their decision. My wife and I recently had our CC, but not before I had to correct two mistakes that I made: I failed to get the Extensa (long) form of my wife's birth certificate and to have the birth and marriage certificates legalized at the Central Registry Office in Santo Domingo. I did this in August, mailed the new documents with translations (which I had previously) on August 30 and we received our CC on September 22. You can call to check your on your case status, but you will usually be told to wait for the thirty-day review period. Stay on top of your case, communicate with the NVC, and you will be fine. If you sent all the documents as required, you should have no problems and your case should move along quickly. Let me know if you have questions.

  14. NVC told me that im case complete since august 13, 2015 but i haven't received a cc letter.she told me to send me a letter regarding my case status. i dont know if she's telling the truth or what, but she's pretty nice when i called. btw, my PD is Oct 2, 2013.

The NVC is backlogged. Have patience. You can attempt to speak with a supervisor, but usually you will be told to wait for the thirty day period. If you have made no mistakes and were careful in submitting your documents, then all should be fine. I know it's hard to wait, but patience is important. Call to check on the status a couple of times a week or every week, but in due time you will receive the good news.
