Hi Everyone,
Please offer advice and experiences. My fiance is American and I am Singaporean. He is petitioning a K1 Visa for me.
I have done a name change in 1997. The name on my Birth Certificate is different from the one in my passport, driver's licence and Identity card. Unfortunately, I have lost the Deed poll and has no photocopies of it too. I have approach many lawyers and they all said the same thing, that only the Law firm that issued my Deed poll can give me a replacement copy. However, I cannot remember which Law firm it is as it is way back in 1997.
So now I have no Deed poll and cannot get a replacement. My second option is to a Statutory Declaration stating I have done a name change and has lost my deed poll etc. I emailed the USA Consulate in Singapore about my situation and asked if a Statutory Declaration is allowed. If not, what alternatives or secondary evidence can I provide. Their reply is Statutory Declaration is NOT allowed and they need a Deed Poll. So they did not give me any alternatives and I am stuck. I went down personally to the US consulate but the security guards would not let me in. They said I can only call or email. So I called them but the lady cannot answer my question and redirected to another line which end up in an answering machine. I left a message and no one calls back.
I find it so hard to get to them. They do not give me any alternatives but just keep saying they want a Deed Poll. If a do a new Deed Poll, the date on the Deed poll will be today's date. Every lawyer I asked said no backdate to 1997 allowed. Is a new Deed poll with today's date allowed?
Please advise. I am so frustrated and end up arguing with my fiance about this.
Thank you

Unfortunately no. The only time I submitted my Deed poll is to change my name in the Passport and Identity card at the Singapore Immigration. And I have been there twice, they do not have a copy in 1997. They only started keeping records of the Deed poll in the last 5 years.
