Oh good times....
I have to learn how to drive too - where I am now in the city, there's no need for me to, however when I live where FH is I have no choice... it's just miles and miles of corn.
A bit nervous but there's nothing to hit, not even a cow! Plus there's roadkill everywhere so I know I wouldn't be the only one!

I will need a cold beer!
And what a better place to come to for that, eh?
A cold beer you shall have

Last week they called to tell me I sent the wrong sized envelope
Are you serious?
Do you want to kick some consulate a**? I do, I'd like to do it for you.

OK, thanks you guys.
Out of those I can probably only have my boss write out a statement saying I am required to come back to work, and maybe before I go I can make an appointment with my doctor and have them write out a note for me.
well it sounds like I shouldn't have any issues.

This July will be my second time this year going to visit my bf in Ohio.
I will only be staying a week as I did in January but I am afraid of getting harassed again and denied entry.
The first time I went out last year was smooth sailing, but I think I got flagged because I mentioned it was my bf I was meeting for the FIRST time ( eek, silly naive girl I am.). I got stopped the second time for about 10 mins at customs and almost missed my flight as the lady asked me all these ridiculous questions ( still being naive, it never occurred to me she was checking my story's facts.).
So I know for a fact that I will be hassled again and I want to avoid missing my flight like I have come close to in previous occasions because Toronto/Pearson airport is a gong-show; they basically asked me " What do you want your luggage or your flight?" I chose my flight and didn't see my luggage til the third day into my visit.
How can I arm myself to prove I have to come home and that I am not intending on staying there longer than planned? What do I bring for proof?
Am I EVER glad I found this site... I can see it now : silly naive Canadian girl going ape-nuts pulling a hockey fight on the yankee customs official.

awesome - this is all very reassuring.
Who are these yahoos anyway?

Wow - glad I found this thread.
Oy, I'm sorry for all the shenanigans you are dealing with.
I wonder how it all ended... or IF it ended.

I says, 'Pardon?'

I believe the requirement is only that you submit your long form birth certificate. People often mention both parents being listed as a way of distinguishing between the long form and the short form types of certificates. As long as it is your official long form birth certificate, I really don't think it matters that only one parent is listed. As you said, there are probably plenty of other people with only one parent listed for various reasons.
*whew
thank- you.
I just got here and already you have helped me lots!

It's funny really. Brian (the USC) is already a hockey fan and plays the game too. Whereas I, born and raised Canadian, don't mind watching the sport but am not really a huge fanatic. Go figure
OOOHHHHH the good ol'hockey game... it's the best game you can name
Anndd the best game you can nammmmee
Is the good ol' hockey game!

I read elsewhere on this forum that basically your application won't get looked at unless both parents names are on your birth certificate.
Normally I wouldn't think this would be a big deal but the more stories I read the more ridiculous the whole visa process seems to get and applications get returned for the smallest of reasons.
My situation is that my birth certificate only shows my mom's name as my real dad buggered off before I was born - I've never met him so he wouldn't be able to vouch for me and state he is my biological father.
My mother is no longer alive so should they need to speak with her, that wouldn't be possible.
This isn't really a major issue is it? I mean surely plenty of people only have one parent named on their birth certificates.
I don't like to panic unless I have to - so do I panic now or later?

I'll be in Ohio July 1st too - woot!
I'm making FI poutine, since he doesn't believe it can taste good with that name.
I may be an American next year but dammit, he WILL BE A CANUCK! And he will learn to love hockey and curling!
I'm sure if this party gets going it'll be a gong-show. Ohio needs a few Hosers to have a good time
I just wish I would be closer to show up for the festivities!
Don't want to be hassled at the airport

ok so I SHOULD NOT say I am going to visit my boyfriend in the US? I thought that if I have been flagged, they will know I am in a relationship already and if I say 'friend' won't that make them suspicious of me?
I figured, better to tell the truth because don't they have it all in front of them on the computer anyway?
Thanks for the responses I got so far, good stuff!
