Ok have you considering going home? With your background, you may have greater opportunities at home?

I think her family meant to say Immigration Services (Dich Vu), not lawyer. These services have inside people at the consulate in Saigon (or embassy in Hanoi) that will help place your case, coach you on the how-to's of the interview, what to say and what not to say and how to say it, and even guarantee that you will pass the interview or your money back. Two of the people I personally know have paid close to $1,500 USD for these services.
They usually work with someone else in the US to help the petitioner with the paperwork. Someone who may be an immigration lawyer or is well versed in immigration laws but not required to have a law degree.
Ok well if you are comfortable with English and read up on visajourney you won't need those services. I left the consulate and the consular sercurity guys warned me of not to use those kind. In my experience, I think using those services would hinder your chances especially when it comes to paperwork and interview coached answers.

Lawyers in Vietnam can practice US laws? I'd trust visajourney resources over Vietnamese lawyers. If getting a lawyer make you feel comfortable, then I think hiring one in US would be better.

Hmm... my wife entered US on Oct 3rd and received it a week before Thanksgiving. The fee was paid about a week after she got her visa.

Get a state issued ID or a driver's license. Problem solved!
-
I would email the consulate and embassy regarding the ds-260 question and state your correction.
-
I filled I-90 online for the name error correction. Now there is no instruction telling me to send my wife's green card. At what point they would require you to send in and where?
-
Make an Infopass appointment at your local USCIS field office and ask them to correct your wife's name in SAVE, which is the database where this name information is pulled from for aliens.
Thanks. Hopefully this will fix everything.

My wife's last name has two separate words i.e. That Is.. On her Vietnamese passport it is normally shown in this order: last, middle and first (i.e. That Is, Kim, Chee). Her visa was issued with last name as "That", and the rest of given name is "IS KIM CHEE). Fast forward we arrived in the states and now the DHS has her information wrong just like her visa.
When we applied for her SSN, it came out as in First, Middle and Last, i.e. IS KIM CHEE, THAT instead of CHEE KIM, THAT IS. Her green card is also the same as SSN name order.
Question is, how do we go about to fix this? On the I-130 and DS-260 we have her first name is CHEE, middle name is Kim and last name is That Is.
Is the GC get their information from DHS just like SSN? If this is the case, how do I contact the DHS to correct this issue before fixing the GC and SSN?

Once you've passed the interview, you have to check in with the EMS and you can ask for expedite shipment. It should cost you an unpaid 240k dong to be paid upon delivery. In my case, visa was issued the next day and it took 3 business days to receive the visa. Otherwise it would have took 5-10 days. EMS has the tracking # that you can check.

If you've paid 240k dong then it should be within 3 business days.

Congratulations. I have added you to the spreadsheet. There is a Vietnam flag also for your profile.
Thanks Dwheels76 for keeping up with the spreadsheet. It was quite helpful for me to estimate the NVC process. As for the Vietnam flag, like many other Vietnamese overseas, I chose not to associate with the flag of the oppressive and corrupted communist regime.

Oh and Tyler congratulations!! And I am sorry about the first time. I would like to agree with Tyler's advice and prepare for anything. Our interview was easy and were out of there by 9:00 am. BUT there were so many denials there. We were lucky. We prepared for the worst and didn't use anything. It seems the CO made her decision already before we walked in. I would like to add to Tyler's advice and ORGANIZE your documents the way they want them. I didn't organize them, my wife did and she said there's alot of information online. Do that and the lady at the first desk won't yell at you and smile. I heard her yell at others for wasting her time. I'm just glad it's done.
Wow yelling at customers? This is typical Vietnamese public servant behavior and attitude. Not sure why people didn't file complaint.

thanks! It took 4 months and 25 days. Click my timeline if you want to see more info.
Hey Tyler,
Can you tell me if your wife was able to take the vaccinations and medical examination on the same day? And how many days did the examination process take? Thank you.

If it's a credit card account that was closed, then you can always access it online. But if it's your checking account, then you may have to pay some money to get your 12 month statements. I would try to get that with the bank for free though.

Since we just finished the interview process and were issued a blue slip and returned and got approved, i would like to offer some advice.
Make sure you bring 2015 tax transcripts and any relavent finacial documents that have changed since filing you AOS
Bring extra pictures besides what you already submitted, especially of the wedding.
Have a list and contcact info for any of the beneficiaries family in the US.
Go ahead and fill out the famiyl tree from vn.usembassy.gov/family-tree/. This was something they asked us to do and could possibly save you a blue slip if done in advance.
Print credit card statements from all you plane tickets. They dont just want to know that you traveled to VN but they also want to know who is paying for it.
Do a detailed time line. Seems obvious but i didnt do one initially.
I hope this advice can help everyone going to interviews in the future and help save time and prevent the stress that we went through.
Thank you Tyler. The family tree has to be filled out each by both petitioner and applicant?

I did file a 2015 tax return but I accidentally left it at the house when I flew out to Vietnam. I filed as married filing separately because it was too difficult to do jointly without her ssn. I do think your not leagally required to file if you make under $10k.
That's correct about under $10k and you have a joint-sponsor so it should not be a problem. Congrats on the visa approval. By the way, which medical facility did your wife chose for her medical examination?

Tyler
Did you attend the interview? Either way, I am sure they will issue her a visa. Nothing to worry about
Second Health Examination
in Vietnam

My MIL has an expired health exam record with previous test for Tuberculosis and found negative. The consulate requested another health exam but does she need to redo the TB test? IOM told her no but asked her to retake the test again which would delay another 10 weeks and shorten her record expiration by 3 months. I cannot fathom doing TB test twice within 7 months time frame. Are there anyone with similar experience?
