Hi all,
So i have my visa in my passport, sold the house, quit my job and tied up all my loose ends and ready to start my new life. This may seem like a really silly question and i think i already know the answer but i just want to confirm.
I don't need to get an ESTA?? my visa for entry serves as such, right?
Thanks
A very excited Vicki

Sorry to appear dumb but what is a GC? Do I get a social security number on entry or with the green card, or do I have to apply seperately

Hi guys,
So I have finally received my passport back with my visa in and I am looking to be travelling to America the beginning of August. I am now starting to look at working over there. Does anyone know If I can start applying for jobs now? Also when I get there can I work straight away or do I have to wait until my green card arrives?
Thanks in advance

Hi all,
I am so relieved that my interview went well and i can now properly prepare to travel and settle in Texas,
I am a super organised person who likes everything in place but i am struggleling to find the best advice on what to prepare before traveling and wondered if any expats have and general advice on what i can be doing and where to get the best advice on :-
Bank accounts.... which ones are the best for moving from Uk banks.... Is it best to keep a UK account for a while?
Buying property..... I am currently selling my home here in the UK. I know i am going to endure paying tax along the way but what is the best way. To buy whilst still having the money in the UK account or to wait and encore charges fron USA bank while i move then pay further property tax?
Should i wait before getting medical insurance. or do i get it before i go. If so where should i go?
Any help greatly appriciated and my head is about to explode>

Hi there,
sorry I have not been Abbie to get on here lately but I have finally got my interview date and as it is now only 3 days away. I am now so nervous. We have been together so long now it just seems like we should fly through it but you never know. We are fully prepared with paperwork and evidence but has anyone got any tips, advice on what to expect, what to wear? Anything else?

Hi all,
Our application is with the NVC as we speak. we are just waiting for the desicion. I have just in the last week had a chest infection and the doc thinks there could possibly be early signs of COPD. I wont know for deffinate until the infection has gone and i have to go back in 4 weeks. I am now worried about the medical exam and my application being denied.
Does anyone know anything about what they will look for in the med exam chest x-ray and wether i should be concerned that they might fail me and deny my visa on health grounds?
very worried

Yes that answers it great thanks. the only issue is that they are both sub contractors so proof of income is their tax return. ( no pay stubbs). they do have an employer though but their pay is different every week so wanted to avoid going down that route. i am guessing we are going to have to. xx

We are wanting both mother and father to be a part of the whole thing and we understand about my husband filling out an 864 also his mother filling out and 864 and his father to fill out the 864a. is that right? but again would they have to split up the income for the form? Sorry i didnt explain it too well.
-
Yes i ment i have done the online 260 then the documents package has gone with the AOS package. is that right?
-
Thanks Nick Nick.
You are always so very helpful.
when should i make the appointment
we have just sent off the iv package and the AOS package should be goingin the next few days along with the checklist and supporting docs
how long does it usually take to get the interview date? i have read about 6 to 8 weeks but not sure when to request a medical?
-
My husband is the petitioner and he lives currently with his parents and his 2 children. we are having a little trouble filling out the i-864.
He doesnt cover the income requirments on his own so his mother is going to be the joint/co sponser. we have read that she also fills in the 864 because they have the same address but the taxes have always been joint filed with her husband (his father) so we have read that his father has to fill in the 864a. Our question is do we have to split up his mother and fathers tax information as they are filling out seperate forms? or can their earnings be shown together?
Thankyou in advance
this is really confusing us.

Good morning,
I have a list of vaccinations needed but i wanted to check a couple of things.
1. the age appropriate part- does this mean that me being 42 means i only need the ones that are listed as "yes" in the 18-64 years?
2. what if in the 18-64 catigory it says no but in earlier years it says yes? do i still need to have those if i did not have them when i was younger?
Thankyou for any help
much appriciated

Thanx for the info. do you think i could try and arrange it for when i go for the interview so as not to take anymore time off work and make 2 trips?
-
Thanx for the info. so when should i get this medical examination as i havn't seem any request for it apart from the question on the form? cant i just go to my regular gp as London is not close and £250 seems steep?
-
Hi can anyone help? I am currently filling out my ds-260 and i have 2 questions.
1/ How far back do i need to go with my addresses? i have moved around alot.
2/ What documentation do i need or can i get about the vaccinations upto date with USA law?- what vaccinations are there?
Thanx in advance Vicki

Hi,
I am currently getting all my documents ready for my application and it askes for police, court and prison records. my question is do i need to get all three if i have no record? i would imagine it is self explanitary that i have no court or prison record if i show my police record as being clean?
-
Thanks for that. do you know of any sites that maybe helpful too?
-
Hi, I know this is not really visa related but i thought some of you may have been through this and could give me some advice.
I am currently waiting for my approval in the UK and i am a home owner. Our plan is for me to sell up and we will then buy a house in USA since my husband currently rents and has next to no knowledge of buying.
What i am wondering is when will be the best time to do this? Before or after i move over there? would taxes be any different? would it make any difference to visa application if i do it too early. we have tried to do research but there is not a lot of advice on joint purchases for a US national and a visa applicant.
Thanks in advance for any help. xx

Thankyou so much that has cleared up alot of confusion

Ok. So we get that we dont need to file the l-485. What confuses us now is where does the USCIS/NVC get all the information that would have been on the I-485 eg the police record and finamcial info?
-
Hi Ryan
Please could you elaborate. we thought everyone had to file the i-485 to get the actual green card. if we are wrong could you tell us how, why and what?
-
No she is currently in the UK. do we have to file it with the i-130? or can we wait a little while as we dont quite have all the documents needed nor the funds for the i-485. we thought we had to file it later. If so how long do we have to file it? thanks in advance.
