  1. I did apply to be the sponsor and got an RFE stating I don't meet the 125%, but I do. I did not send in my proof of citizenship, so I'm wondering if that could be why we got the RFE. We decided to get a joint sponsor because we're not sure why, and don't want to be denied if I try again. There was a phone number on the RFE. I wonder if they would be able to answer those questions for me.

  2. We sent out the AOS package on March 18th, and received an RFE on April 20th for not meeting the 125% on the affidavit of support. I do meet the 125% but just barely for 3 people (my daughter included). We've decided to get a joint sponsor as to not chance a denial. What information can we give to our joint sponsor? How long will they be obligated to be financially responsible through law? Until naturalization?

Also, does she need to meet the 125% for 4; herself, my husband, daughter and I? Or just 2, herself and my husband?

Any info is appreciated. Thank you!

  3. Hi everyone! We filed March 18th and they received our applications on the 21st. My husband did his biometrics on April 21. The travel and work have not updated since they were received, but we did get an RFE for not meeting 125% on the I-864. I do make enough, but just barely. I'm over by a few hundred dollars of the 125% for 3 in our household (my daughter included). My questions: Should I send in more detailed information of my income, (bank statements, deposit history, etc.) or not chance it and just go with a joint sponsor? We're really wanting to be able to do it ourselves, as not to inconvenience anybody, but we will if we have to. If we go with a joint sponsor, what info should we give them about how long they will have to be a sponsor? I believe I read that it's until the person they're sponsoring becomes naturalized, which can take 2-3 years. True?

Also, I thought this would be a good opportunity to show proof of relationship by sending in pictures, both names on our lease, insurance cards, etc., along with the RFE response, just for the added cherry on top. I know it's not needed now but anything to get the process go smoother and faster. Thoughts?

  4. When he picked up his visa, he was told to pay the DS 160 immigrant fee online. He needs to enter his Alien Registration Number (from NOA2?) and Department of State Case ID (case number) number. When he enters those he gets a message: "ERROR: We could not find the A-Number and/or DOS Case ID you entered. If your immigrant visa was approved recently, please wait five days before attempting to pay. If the problem continues after five days, please contact the Customer Contact Center for assistance."

We've also read that we do not have to pay that fee until he applies for GC. It's a little confusing. Was he told this only because it was processed as an immigrant visa? Since this is a nonimmigrant visa he doesn't have to pay?

  5. I'll ask my fiancé to get on and double check. That all looks good. The two photos are supposed to be passport style and size. The bank statement I sent was from the beginning of October. I don't know of any time requirements. He did get asked severel questions that were very personalized to our relationship, about where I was born, are my parents still married, what our plans are after getting married, etc., but he said it was really easy. He answered with "I don't know" a couple times, but as long as you are honest it'll be fine. The CO didn't even peek at my finance's packet or evidence that he brought in. He seemed to have our case memorized from the petition I sent in. He gave my fiancé all of the evidence I sent and our pictures I had sent. Overall, it was an easy experience. Good luck to you! I'm sure it'll go as smoothly as ours.

Our visa changed to Issued today!
