  1. It takes too long to get all that fixed and I'd have to jump through so many hoops on other issues at work if my name is changed now that is why I didn't.

And you think the INS/USCIS is going to cater to you because of your little trouble with changing the records on file when you should have initially given them your legal name in the first place? You and I must live in different worlds.

Do as you wish. I wish you luck. But when you have delays or are denied, don't say you haven't been forewarned.

Junkie, you would do well to listen to those of whom you've asked advice from. NO, the USCIS isn't going to cater to your idea that it's just too much trouble, there are too many hoops to jump through. I'm sorry you don't like your legal name...nevertheless the USCIS doesn't care what you like or don't like.

If you get denied, or your petition is delayed while you sort out this mess, then you can't say you weren't warned.

Even if I changed it with my employer that isn't going to solve the problem of my 2004 and 2005 W-2's having John on it either. And my girls interview is in three weeks, there is no way I can get all this done that fast. Thanks for the help I appreciate your input.

I don't technically use my full legal name either. Just the names I like. I haven't had a major problem yet. My SSN is in that name and so are all my tax records, HR records. Only problem I had was applying for my passport. I had to give them five years worth of public records showing the name I currently use and now my US passport is in that name. I put my name under the other name place on the G325. We got approved so hopefully you won't any issues. If it will make you feel better write a letter and give to your fiance and if, only if they bring it up she can give them the letter.

Yet being the operative word here.

True, that won't solve the problem with the tax returns. Not sure what you'll do. But I'm fairly certain the embassy is going to check this out and see the discrepancy. If you don't like your legal name, why don't you do the legal legwork to change it?

Maybe writing a letter stating that "this is my legal name but I don't like it so I go by this name" might help?

My fiance already had his interview and they didn't ask him anything about my name. But then again it was listed on the paperwork. So it's not like we were hiding anything.

  3. Here on business for a week. I dont' know anyone here, and if you live here or are familiar with the area, maybe you could suggest something.

    Thanks.

Just off the top of my head:

    San Diego Zoo

    San Diego Wild Animal Park

    Sea World

    Maritime Museum

    Aircraft Carrier Midway Museum

I agree with the above, also there are some tours around downtown so you might want to check into that. If you decide to go to TJ don't go alone and go in the daytime. If you just want to chill a bit you can go to Mission Beach to relax.

  4. You might want to try contacting your local Welfare services office and see if you are eligible for Medicaid for pregnant women.

If she claims a means tested benefit.... her sponsor will get the bill.... that why we have to have a sponsor who can afford to pay if we cant....

    Kezzie

A portion of the sponsors income is counted when they try to determine eligibility, but if the sponsor is her husband then that income from him would be included anyway. Hey it can't hurt her to try. :)

And to the OP; If you do try it now would be a good time, New Fed regs will soon be in place that may limit medicaid to US citizens. (I don't know if they will include those who are here legally.)

  7. Now Valentine, I don't know what to believe anymore. Word has it that you supposedly lied to your fiance about being a preacher. SHAME ON YOU!!! Now if you did in fact do that...well yeah, she needs to let your but get sent back home to Naija. Im for trying to keep the peace, but if you just blatantly lied like that, well you can't really be trusted, therefore sistergirl needs to call off everything. If you gonna lie like that, then its no telling what else you will lie about next. Boy, u got some "splaining" to do!!!! :o:o:o

    Sweetee

    Whoa! :o

    Application Type: I129F , PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)

    Current Status:

This case has been approved. On July 5, 2006, an approval notice was

mailed. If 30 days have passed and you have not received this notice,

you may wish to verify or update your address. To update your address,

please speak to an Immigration Information Officer during business hours.

Finally after 5.5 months we have our noa2! On to the next stage woohoo. Jon is coming to see me Saturday so now we have more reason to celebrate. :luv:

    Congratulations!

  9. Hello,

Just started reading this forum. My wife's EAD should be arriving soon, I hope. After that I really hope to get the SSN soon after that so we can apply for her driver's license. Some people mention it will take longer to get an SSN if you aren't in the SAVE system. How do I make sure my wife is in that system, and what can I do now, if anything? Someone mentioned an INFOPASS (?) appointment in order to get into the SAVE system.

    Thanks.

Getting into the SAVE system is not something you can do yourself. Immigration will enter the information into the system after arrival into the states. And yes it will take longer to get a SSN if your wife isn't in the system yet. Most of the refugees I worked with would be in SAVE within a month after arrival. You could try an INFOPASS appointment (couldn't hurt). Immigration may put it in because of that reason.

  10. Recieved letter today from NVC saying they recieved the approved fiance visa petition and within one week it will it will be forwarded to the appropriate visa issueing post where the interview will take place. also states that fiance will recieve packet from consular at this post(tokyo) with instructions on how to apply for k-1 visa at that post and which documents will be needed. so is this the good news letter we were waiting for?

    Yup

  11. It seems like it's ok - a couple of people have PM'd me about the definition of "public charge", and it all seems to be legit and ok to do.

We have a couple of estates here who do offer low-income units, and others which are solely made up of low-income properties. Having looked through the requirements, we certainly don't exceed the max income level and we can pay the rent as requested. They have some where it's subsidised and you only pay 30% of your income, and others where they just set the rent below market value. That's probably what we'd do.

I guess Chris will just have to get down the office on Tuesday and ask!

    :star:

I don't think housing subsidies will count as public charge for the both of you. Basically if the alien goes in and applies for public assistance by themselves then a portion of the sponsors income must be included. If the sponsor and alien apply together then this is ok because all the sponsors income is included. Any overpayments (things of this nature) will have to be paid back by the sponsor. Just think of it like child support, single mother with a child applies for welfare, the agency then goes after the absent father for child support to help pay back some of the benefits the mother is getting for the child, but if they apply together then different story. Section 8 housing is not exactly the same thing as public assistance. It is not included as income received, but just help paying the rent.

  12. Do you guys think the petitioners will receive only these documents to provide their criminal records or a whole new I129F will be needed later on?

As I said in a previous thread. I think this could have been handled by the consulate rather than send the cases all the way back to the service centers. All one has to do is take a trip down to the local police station (if they still do police checks) and they should have provided the forms online (they only need to add only a few things to the I 129F). Then it could have been sent directly to the consulate from the petitioner. A delay of what a couple of weeks at best thereby eliminating any backlog of petitions that the service centers are gonna have. Maybe I need to work for them...nah..probably get fired for having too much common sense.

  13. That's interesting.

People on VJ have reported the NVC has never confirmed their petition and suddenly the Beneficiary in the foreign country get packet 3 or some kind of notice or both get a notice the petition's at the embassy.

I think possibly, even though the SC probably doesn't have a clue if they're the helpless desk because they're reading from a script they're provided and have absolutely no insight into the process, some do get sent or could get sent to the embassy directly.

Does your NOA2 have a number above the fiance)e)'s name and the number is preceeded by the letter "A"?

Mine does and I wonder if that's an assigned, THE infamous "A" number.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of man! Only the Shadow!!

Seriously ... I called last night after reading someone with our exact NOA2 date called and they were in the system.

    Why aren't we???? :(

I also wondered if it was the A number. It certainly looks like it and I used to see alot of A numbers because I had to run SAVE on non-citizens in my line of work.

  14. The consular just call me and inform me that the embassy will not be able to issue my VISA on this Friday due to the new insturstion that they just received from NVC.

My Interview has approved on last Friday and now they will need to hold on with my case!

The consular told me thst my fiance need to call NVC to check with them on the additional requirement needed from him...

I'm so very very very sad.... in tears when I got this news.... :crying:

I have resign from my work on Monday... and now I do not know what to do...

Just hoping the process will took minimum time to sort it out.

My fiance is online in skype with me while I'm on the phone with the consular...

What a terrible thing to happend at this portion of the process....

ANyone got any help or advice for us? Please...

    :crying::crying::crying:

See this is just messed up! Why would they do that to someone? I could understand if the petition was not sent to the Consulate yet and then they could recall it. I think they should just let those whose cases are already with the consulates let the consulates handle it rather than send it back. smh
