  1. We are at the NVC stage and I am working on the AOS. I haven't filed taxes the last three years because of no income. How can I prove that I wasn't required to file. I was a full time student and have transcripts, but there are a couple of gaps. I have been graduated for 1-1/2 years and have been taking care of my son full time since. I suppose I can include the monthly statements from my US bank account along with my transcripts, but will this be enough? I also have a foreign bank account, but requesting past statements takes time and is expensive.

I am worried that this is the one hangup that will get me a checklist....any suggestions?

  2. Hello everyone. I am petitioning my wife and we are at the NVC stage where we need to submit the AOS. I have a current income that meets the standard, but didn't have any income the past 3 years (was a student, then stay at home dad) and so I wasn't required to file taxes. So I didn't. Am I going to get a checklist because of this? Anything I can say/do/include to avoid this?

  3. I am a US citizen and currently live with my Austrian wife in the Netherlands. I got a job in the US, so we are planning on moving there together (or she moves shortly after if the immigration process takes too long). The fact that I don't currently have a US address or phone number makes some of the questions on form I-130 difficult to answer:

    1) On the signature line I am supposed to enter my phone number, but the format on the form is clearly for American phone numbers (parentheses for area code, etc.). I'm afraid if I enter my foreign number here they will be unable to process it and it will be determined to be an invalid number. Another possibility is to use the phone number of one of my parents, but I don't want to come across as dishonest if the number is called.

    2) Question 18 asks the address my wife intends to live at. Since we are both abroad there is no such address yet. I guess for this one I need to use my parents' address and then explain at the interview?

Any input on how to proceed is greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!
