I got a letter (ask for a copy of "earnings statement") from Social Security that showed that I had no income. The consulate did not question why I did not work.

I (USC) had not worked for 7 years, had my parents co-sponsor and was able to get my husband approved easily.
-
Love the kitties..Bob is a fine name BTW!!

It all worked out great in the end, so no problem. MTL was super nice about everything when we went to the interview. I had the waiver prepared so at least I didn't get shocked by not knowing about the waiver and denial.
Luckily for us my senator was able to expedite the waiver. Next week hubby goes for citizenship interview!

Hubbys waiver was for mischief (broke store window) in 1988, no time served, just had to pay a fine.
To be safe make sure to have all documents relating to the offense so the CO has all the information needed...BTW, in hubbys case the incident occured in Montreal and he was required by the consulate to have them translated.

A CIMT (crime involving moral turpitude) can be just about anything.
Anyways..here is the visa info:
http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/inel...ities_1364.html
(2) Criminal and related grounds.-
(A) Conviction of certain crimes.-
(i) In general.-Except as provided in clause (ii), any alien convicted of, or who admits having committed, or who admits committing acts which constitute the essential elements of-
(I) a crime involving moral turpitude (other than a purely political offense or an attempt or conspiracy to commit such a crime), or
(II) a violation of (or a conspiracy or attempt to violate) any law or regulation of a State, the United States, or a foreign country relating to a controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 802)), is inadmissible.
(ii) Exception.-Clause (i)(I) shall not apply to an alien who committed only one crime if-
(I) the crime was committed when the alien was under 18 years of age, and the crime was committed (and the alien released from any confinement to a prison or correctional institution imposed for the crime) more than 5 years before the date of application for a visa or other documentation and the date of application for admission to the United States, or
(II) the maximum penalty possible for the crime of which the alien was convicted (or which the alien admits having committed or of which the acts that the alien admits having committed constituted the essential elements) did not exceed imprisonment for one year and, if the alien was convicted of such crime, the alien was not sentenced to a term of imprisonment in excess of 6 months (regardless of the extent to which the sentence was ultimately executed).
Multiple criminal convictions.-Any alien convicted of 2 or more offenses (other than purely political offenses), regardless of whether the conviction was in a single trial or whether the offenses arose from a single scheme of misconduct and regardless of whether the offenses involved moral turpitude, for which the aggregate sentences to confinement were 5 years or more is inadmissible.

FIBelle -10 cats and 13 dogs? Yipes - we have 5 indoor cats and an outdoor 'stray/abandon' who wants to be indoors and Joe says no. Anyone here in the Atlanta area want a sweet little muted calico charmer? I'll even deliver.
I stay quite busy...and I am happy to say all were rescues.

I had my hubby convert our spare room into a huge closet for me with shelves all round the room for my shoe/boot/purse collection..it baffles him that I have 6 pair of black boots.
-
I have 10 indoor cats and should qualify for home delivery of cat litter!
Add to that my 13 dogs, and I think I help do my part to keep the pet industry going strong!
-
The only time I take my rings off is for housework or surgery....hubby wears his all the time.

We also had an ice cream cake..Baskin Robbins Chocolate Fudge!

I live in Athens and the Publix here also has crumpets...now if I could just find some Cadbury drinking chocolate.
I'm from the Athens area! I grew up in Madison County, which is the county north of Athens. What part of Athens are you in?
Raised in Athens..went to Clarke Central...now we live in Winterville. Hubby loves it down here..he especially likes that there is no snow to shovel.
My Uncle Jack Fortson was sheriff for ages out in Madison County.

Ingles isn't bad though - their house brands are actually quite good. I spread my shopping around between Aldi's, Ingles, Kroger's and Costco. If I have a lot to do and only a short time, then I'll use Walmart too. It was at the Ingles in Locust Grove that I actually found crumpets in their freezer section - and bought 10 packages! Hehehe, Now they are in MY freezer:-).
I love dark chocolate and prefer the European dark chocolate to what I have found here in the States. That being said, the good quality Hershey's dark isn't bad nor is the Dove dark. I agree, though, most chocolate here is far too sweet and not nearly chocolate-y enough - they might just as well rename it 'dark brown sugar'.
I have found crumpets in the majority of the Atlanta area Publix stores.
Thanks, good to know. Next time I make it into Atlanta proper, I will stop in at a Publix. I know that the ones here in Stockbridge/Morrow/McDonough/Forest Park area that I have been in don't carry them. Ah, crumpets! hehehe, or I may just drive to Locust Grove again - it's closer than Atlanta and I can take back roads there and back and not have to worry about I-75 traffic;-). Again, thank you.

My hubby had been to the USA many times prior to us filing for his visa, but in trying to cross in Dec 2002, he was denied. We did the process from Canada, with me there with him quite alot of the time. Since we had been married since 1999, that may have made things somewhat simpler in proving the validity of the relationship.
The pet thread!

We brought our 2 oldest cats from Canada, and all the rest have come from shelters...my newest baby Ilsa I just adopted a week ago. Hubby says 23 is enough...of course, he said that at 13!
