  1. I will share my experience. Hope this helps. We got married in Sri Lanka we never made a thing to somewhat report our marriage coz we have no idea about it. Until Packet came and ask for my NBI and NSO marriage certificate. I went to NBI and put MARRIED on that Civil Status box to think that I don't have my married certificate from Sri Lanka with me and I never changed my maiden name (until now), I never had problems on NBI having my husband and I different surname. Now, the biggest problem was reporting my marriage to DFA back in my hometown Butuan, the lady there said it will take a year plus but my research says 4-6 months. I need my NSO Marriage certificate or Delayed registration of marriage for my interview because they will need it. We can't wait for our NSO thingy so I went to interview without it. The Filipino Screener asked me for it but I cannot give so she put that yellow card that says "Case of the day" . Then I and my 7 year old son went to that Special Consul who entertains those with the yellow card. Few minutes of interview he said everything looks good so he stamped that folders. We were approved.

My husband says that its only the Philippines need it not USA because for US every genuine marriage around the world is valid.

Hope it gives you any idea. Thankz

  2. As for my experience, we did both. That's funny! We did checking the box on that form along with the green card and 2 days after we arrive here in USA we went to Social Security office because the Immigration Officer told us to go and check also the SS Office said to wait for it in the mail, if it wont come at the end of this month, we go back to their office.

A week after we got the SSN card in the mail.

  3. Got here last May 8 on Mothers Day, hubby used to tell me that this is his gift (or maybe that was just a good timing or he really thought about it Hmmm)... I just want to thank you to all those who helped me through my immigration journey. Thank you very much and Visa Journey is such a very big help. Now waiting for our GC in the mail. ???

  4. . Hope this helps. I was sponsored as K3 visa in 2012 but they approved it as CR1 in two months. If u have a child please submit another form I 130. That caused our delay coz my son was not approved on any application coz we never submitted I130 for him.

As K3, we have no idea about the changing of status at DFA. What we should've done is, before he filed the sponsorship we should've Report our Marriage since we got married in other country. In your case, i suggest that you change status at DFA, bring your marriage certificate ( if you're married in Ph) and attend a CFO seminar in Cebu or Manila ( that is their new requirement as what i knew from someone i met at CFO, she need the seminar for "change of status").

After you have changed then you can file the sponsorship with everything with your husbands surname.

At your advantage, once you get the visa. All you do is just get the CFO sticker coz u have already attended and you already got the CFO certificate since you cannot leave the country without it.

    Hope this helps.

    Goodluck

  5. That Report of Marriage thing is the reason why the Filipino Pre screener gave me the yellow thingy that says "Case of the Day" been 3 years of marriage but still we never reported it in my Philippine Govt (of course my husband and I have no idea about that) and maybe why our the sponsorship took 3 plus years.

That yellow thingy leads me to a special American Consul that only handles applicant with that yellow thingy.

That was a bloody 30 mins plus interview with him. The other cubicles already approved 5 applicants while I'm with him having an oral defense in the university- like interview.

Everything will turn out right if papers are OK and defend the genuine relationship you have.

  6. Hi I want to share this to you, my husband and I got married in sri Lanka in 2012,he sponsored me for a spousal visa. The US embassy asked for an NSO marriage certificate that I don't have. So what I did was to Report our Marriage at the DFA which I did in October 2015, it was a Delayed Registration of Report of Marriage and will take 2-4 months.

My visa was approved last November, the Filipino pre screener is particular about the registration of marriage in Philippines.

I am scheduled to go for a CFO seminar in cebu on Jan 25. My husband and I are worried cOz CFO need the Report of Marriage from NSO.

I know that I have to call DFA manila and ask for a tracking number but I cannot contact them either.

What I did is.. I called CFO cebu and I told them that I still have my maiden name coz that was on our papers during the sponsorship process.

The guy said that I can still come and bring my foreign marriage certificate. So I guess im good to go to the seminar.

Hope this helps . thank you

  7. I have mostly been using Moneygram. One time they refused to send money and told me I can only send money once a week. After that I sent money multiple times a week with no problems I had a horrible experience with xoom. I was in the Philippines visiting my fiance and sent money to her through xoom so I had a few hundred extra dollars for my trip home. They put a hold on my money and I had to call them. The person on the phone was asking all sorts of personal questions they had no business asking. He then told me to fax him a copy of my dirvers license I had no way of doing so so I demanded to talk to his supervisor and after going back and forth with him got him to release my money. I will never deal with them again.

I was wondering what the best way would be to just transfer money directly from my bank account to my fiance's account. I wonder if there are any banks in the US that have branches in the Philippines and if a joint bank account after we get married would be possible. I saw sopmeone mentioned Wells Fargo to send money to Philippines bank accounts. I will have to look into that.
