I am a naturalized US citizen. My passport under Nationality says "USA". Just a curious doubt after reviewing my passport. What is the difference between "Nationality" and "Citizen"?
-
I had my oath ceremony with name change in Dallas within 3 months of my interview.
-
I received my passport on 1/9 and NC on 1/19.
My bad. 10 days. For some weird reason at the time of posting my comment, I got your dates mixed up. So I am still leading with 12 days

Nexgen,
i had the record for receiving NC slowest 12 days after passport (without postal issues). You beat me to it with 20 days. You have good patience. In my 12 days wait, I must have called 3-4 times and posted questions on VJ too.
Congrats on your US Citizenship.

go directly to cgks site instead of path2usa: https://www.in.ckgs.us
select renunciation from there

I got my name in Driver License updated first, then applied for passport.

Good thing you do not need to send your US passport for OCI so you can travel if you have to.
Don't we need to send US passport for match-up later in the process?

Finally received NC in mail on 12/24. Been a relief honestly. One more process completed, now it's over to the next one.
Oh another note, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all ...

I haven't received my NC as yet. I got the passport on 12/12 (Routine process). On calling the agency, they said it was handed over to USPS for being mailed out on 12/17. How long should first class mail take? Package mailed out from Portsmouth, NH and I am in Dallas, TX.

thanks gauravandgarwita. can i submit both together? also, do i need to wait for US passport before I can apply for OCI? Do they need copy of US passport for OCI?
-
Anyone of Indian origin, can you please share your experiences? Can you do both together? What is the time frame to get the card?

You don't need to wait for SSA update as well. I visited SSA the next day after my oath ceremony and got my card in my mailbox in a week. Initially, the SSA officer told me I should come back in 10 days to get it processed in 2 weeks or else it will take 4-6 weeks. I said go ahead, I can wait for 4-6 weeks, but take my request today. After verifying all documents she corrected herself in the end that I should get it in normal 2 weeks time frame. I got in one.

I am not planning to drive there, my husband will drive me, so no issues with my getting a traffic ticket "en route" to the ceremony.
You can get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt as a passenger

I remember I did get two emails on 8/4 saying the same thing that my ceremony has been place in line. Should the second one have been "your oath ceremony has been scheduled?"
I too got 2 emails for in line for oath on 8/31 within 2 minutes. I was also wondering the same. But on On 10/21, stats changed to Oath ceremony notice was mailed. I had infopass today (10/22). IO confirmed oath is scheduled for 11/19. Name change Dallas TX location. Interview date 8/25.

This is not true. I am in Southern California which is a big region in California and almost all the oath ceremonies in this region offers Judicial ceremonies and not administrative which allows the name change during oath.
San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, Chula Vista (San Diego) only do administrative oaths as per USCIS website
-
we are in Dayton,Ohio
ok, since this may come under cincinnati so they do judicial ceremonies. you can change your name to anything you desire as long as it's not offensive

Hello JimmyHou,
I am sending in my application N400 in 2 days ...we have a situation of weird name change. This is not my real name but I am setting up an example
my name : jackson shering ..... USC Wife`s name : adena perkins
Name change to : jack sheringer perkins
is that possible ? i read the instructions but couldnt get a proper answer . Thanks in advance for your valiable reply
which city are you in? many CA cities do not do name changes through naturalization. you will need to get it done by court
-
I don't think that's true .. will wait for vj experts to confirm
-
I think they have the records of your trips on their systems as well. My IO looking at the computer told me I have been absent for sometime but added that was prior to LPR status

So if you are out of the country for 6 months, do you still buy healthcare which you will not use, or cough up the exuberantly high penalty?
