  1. It was actually at the airport in Canada, preclearance customs.

    Hi there...

I am an international flight attendant based at JFK, so I obviously travel often. It doesn't sound to me like anything to worry about. Coming into the US, you would clear immigrations first (at which point you would be asked those questions like what is your purpose of visiting), then you would pick up your bags and clear customs. Customs purpose is to look for items such meat, fruit, and veg, which is why your bag was searched. You wouldn't be flagged unless you committed one of those offenses. You had already cleared the immigration portion, so that is why he didn't ask you for proof of your ties to canada. I wouldn't worry, my fiance has traveled to visit me twice since we applied, and no problems either time.

  2. Hi

Not sure I'm putting this in the right place...

Last time I went to visit my fiance in the USA, at customs everything was fine until they scanned my boarding pass and I was asked to follow an agent we chatted for about 10 minutes and my luggage came and he went through it. I told him i was visiting my fiance and he asked questions about what we do for work and basic questions, looked through my bags and then said I was fine to go. He didn't ask me for any of the proof of ties to Canada I had with me. I'm just wondering if that means I was flagged in some way and will this happen every time I go to the States?

    Thanks
