If you're absolutely positively 100% certain she will not be returning and residing in the US PERMANENTLY (just want to emphasize this because a lot of people have come here to say they want to reside elsewhere only to reveal that they meant "for a certain amount of time", which is not the same as "permanently"), it's best to file I-407 (GC Abandonment) so they have an official record of it and won't start removal proceedings or anything like that.

Thank you very much for the information. No we don't plan on returning. We bought land on her island and will retire there

  2. Greenbaum,

Thanks very much for your response .

In response on this last question I had.

    3. Our K1 expires at the end of November and she still has to go and get a police clearance at the Japanese embassy in Manila and she cannot file for that without her passport. Do you suggest requesting an extension and can I email the request to the embassy and attach an official letter to the email? LET ME UNDERSTAND THIS BECAUSE IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. DOES SHE ALREADY HAVE A K-1 VISA, BECAUSE FROM YOUR QUESTION IT SOUNDS LIKE SHE DOES. BUT, IF SHE HAS NOT FILLED OUT THE DS-160 I ASSUME SHE IS STILL IN PROCESS. IF THE LATER IS TRUE THEN HER APPLICATION WILL BE EXTENED AUTOMATICALLY. BUT, IT'S BEST TO CALL USEM AND REQUEST THAT IT BE EXTENDED.

Yes we are still in the process but we do have our MNL number . To be on the safe side I will contact the embassy to request an extension.

  3. Hi everyone,

    I have a few questions.

    1. According to this website the Embassy in Manila does not mail out the package anymore as its all available on their site and they will send out an email. Is this true?

    2. On the DS-160 does my fiancée have to list her valid Philippines passport number and if she is still waiting on her renewed one she wont be able to fill out yet online?
