My I-130 petition for my mother was approved on September 28th 2011 and as of today it seems NVC has still not received the file from USCIS. Judging from other's timeline not sure why it's taking this long. Does anyone know how long it takes before NVC assigns a case number? Also anything else I should consider e.g. talking to a representative?

Not Biometrics...possibly some important information they need before they can process your file....I would wait for the letter.....if it doesnt come soon try calling USCIS or schedule Infopass....I've heard really bad reviews about the new status check system

Congrats on your oath notice. As for your concern about not having a GC, you should be ok at the oath. They ask for the GC from people coz they don't need them anymore and might land on the wrong hands. My guess is they actually shred them. Let us know what the officers say 2morrow.

The officer said I should be fine and they wont even issue me a stamp anymore....oh well I'll find out on MOnday...

Finally got my oath letter today....set for Oct 26th....guess the only thing I'm worried about is that I never received my GC from the removal of conditions application. Guess theres not much I can do now anyway, but I am going to USCIS tomorrow to try and get my I-551 stamp renewed. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? Anyone know someone in the same situation? Would really appreciate any help.

Hey wannabe_texan didnt receive my interview letter yet and no online changes either. You're right I-751 is the same also. Wish they would keep it more updated like "Sent Oath letter" would put a lot of people at ease

Congratulation to the new and soon-to-be citizens. I was curious, has the online status been updated for anyone?

Before I begin let me just say that I was not happy with my case going to the Mt. Laurel office instead of the Newark Office, but now let me tell you it’s way better than Newark, NJ. Less hassle getting there, less crowded and the people are wayyyy nicer.

Now that that’s out of the way, my interview was at 10:45am today. I got to the USCIS office at Mt. Laurel around 10:30am and parked at the free parking within their premises less than 50ft from the main entrance door (another benefit of the Mt. Laurel office). After the security check I gave my appointment letter to the smiling receptionist (a rarity at USCIS) and before my butt even warmed the seat, my name was called out by an IO and I followed him into the back offices.

After the usual oath I was asked to present my passport, green card and driver’s license. I explained that I had gone for an interview to remove conditions in June and though I was approved I have not received the GC yet. He confirmed from my file that I was approved (a relief) and then told me that not having the GC won’t be blocking this case since they had not even produced the card yet (a great relief).

He then asked me a question I was actually not prepared for “What does taking the oath of citizenship mean?” I hesitated and said, “Be loyal to the USA and abide by all laws.” He said “And you will renounce all other loyalties, your loyalty to USA will come first, you will bear arms if needed.” Somehow I didn’t know they asked this question but in any case it wasn’t part of the test.

I was then made to sign the last portion of the N-400 application which you’re only to sign in front of an IO. He then made me sign the photographs I sent with my application (I had not taken extra photos as people usually do). Then we moved on to the test…all 6 questions were good….then English part came later which went well also.

Overall a good experience…and even though Mt. Laurel does same day oaths I am not eligible until I complete the three year Permanent residency on Sep 6^th. He said I will receive the oath appointment by mail and that there’s a big oath ceremony on Sep 26^th in Trenton and that I should get that (fingers crossed). He said otherwise my application is approved.

So it is highly possible my dealings with USCIS will come to an end very soon at least for myself personally. But I can only be sure once I have that certificate in my hand. For everyone waiting good luck…

Thanks CColdwell. I just tried getting an infopass appointment for my 10-year green card to arrive (yes I have bigger problems) and apparently it depends on where you live. When I give the zip code for the area I live in, close to Princeton, the appointment comes up for Mount Laurel. However, when I give the zip code for the area I work in, Westfield NJ, the appointment is for Newark NJ Office. Based on that I guess you can judge where your interview is gonna happen....hope you get your letter soon

Got my interview letter but not quite what I expected. First off its for Sept 02 and I wont finish my 3 years permanent residence until Sept 06. Second its in Mount Laurel, NJ (who knew that even existed) and I'm not sure if they have same day oaths, not that it would matter. Oh well....looks like another struggle coming up....

I doubt if you just applied for an I-751 you are eligible for citizenship, however you can apply for citizenship if you meet the following conditions regardless of if you're I-751 petition is approved or not:

1) you have been a Permanent Resident for 3 years (you can apply 90 days before the 3-year mark)

2) You gained permanent residency through a US Citizen spouse

3) Your spouse has been a US citizen for 3 years or more.

When I applied for my citizenship last month, I had not been approved for my I-751 yet.

The State Department Processes same day passport creation/renewal etc. if you are able to prove to them it is an emergency. They generally just require a confirmed air ticket. My wife got it done from the Philadelphia office....but it takes time, she got there around 9:00am and had her passport around 3:00pm.....

I think your question is too complicated to be solved here.....I would strongly recommend getting in touch with an immigration lawyer to get better direction....

I was just a little concerned though and I'm sure this applies to others, if we receive an interview notice for August and we're not eligible for Citizenship until September (3 years to complete as PR), will they delay the oath until then. More worried about Newark, cause they have same day oaths....then again.....Newark is painfully slow also.....any thoughts?

Just add a row after three years and say you were not in the US at this time.

Unfortunately it seems like USCIS does this. I feel bad for you and think its unethical for USCIS to cash checks without doing a preliminary investigation into basic eligibility. I would contact a lawyer for consultation only. He could recommend an appeal or reapplication. I think in your case though you'll probably have to re-apply

There is a difference between Priority and Express. I sent mine through USPS Express to the "express/courier" mail.

I wanted to share my interview experience since not a lot of people have the honor of going to an interview for removing conditions.

I was scheduled to go to the Newark, NJ office of USCIS on Broad Street June 25^th at 10:30pm. My wife was with me and as always in my case I was a little late but luckily by only 5 minutes. The lady just took our interview notice and asked us to sit down. The area where the removing conditions interviews take place is different than the one that I went to before for an Info Pass appointment. It is much smaller and a little depressing.

Luckily we only waited for around 20 minutes before my name was called by a USCIS Officer and we were escorted through Door 1 towards his cubicle. I have to say the views of Manhattan from his desk were stunning and a little distracting during the interview.

In any case before we sat down he asked us to raise our right hand and to swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, which obviously we did. He then asked us to sit down and wanted to see both our passports and drivers license and my green card. I informed him my green card was taken by this very same office the day I went for an I-551 stamp.

He then started asking a bunch of questions:

How long have you been in the USA? (Almost 8 years)

When did you come to the USA? (August 2001)

Have you ever been in trouble with immigration? (No, ***It's bad enough not being in trouble***)

Have you ever been arrested? (No)

When did you guys meet? (Mothers Day 2005)

Have you ever traveled anywhere together? (Yes)

Where? (Multiple trips to Chicago, Multiple trips to Canada, Pakistan, UK, France)

To me – Have you ever traveled alone (Yes for work)

Where do you work? (Gave my company name)

What do you do? (In IT)

Describe your work? (Gave him all the technical details which I'm sure he didn't understand)

Have you ever been married before? (No for me, Yes for my wife)

To my wife – When did your previous marriage end? (April 2003)

To my wife – How did it end? (Husband Passed Away)

To my wife – How did he die? (Reason Given)

How many children do you have together? (One)

How many children do you have in total? (Two)

Do you have the birth certificate of the child you have together? (Yes – submitted birth certificate original)

Do you have a copy of this? (Yes – submitted copy)

Where do you live? (Gave address)

Do you have any other documents to give me for this petition? (I was a little confused….Basically wanted to ask like what? But I gave him a thick pile of statements from our joint accounts, IRS transcripts and account history of last 3 years of my tax returns. Lease papers, Auto Insurance Copies. He kept everything but the bank statements, saying he already has them. I informed him I also have photographs. He wanted to see them, took a look and returned them.)

He then told us that everything is good and that my application is approved and that I should be receiving my green card in 3 to 6 months but probably earlier (HA!). He escorted us back to the exit and that was that. Whole thing took probably 30 minutes.

I should be saying I'm really overjoyed, but honestly I've moved on after one year lurching in the dark with this petition. I have already filed for Citizenship and that's what interests me now.

However, thank you everyone for the invaluable advice you guys give. This forum is the best. To all those still waiting, good luck and there's no need to worry.

I left it blank for periods I was unemployed/Doing nothing.....

You shouldnt take a chance.....the question is "Do you owe any Federal, State or Local Taxes that are overdue". That covers all taxes that you owe. You can easily be rejected if they find out. I would suggest to get on a payment plan asap.
