  1. Just thought I'd post a follow up.

I made an Info pass appointment for yesterday (Feb 22) and made the hour drive to the field office and was basically told to be patient. The gentleman who helped me had my case up and said that they hadn't even sent an appointment letter out to me yet and there isn't really any timeline they abide to. He said as an example there was a man who comes in now and then who had been waiting 10 years... Furthermore he told me that all they have access to is what we have access to on the USCIS website (check case status) and there wasn't anything he could do. Also that calling USCIS and getting the service request really didn't do anything, that it was for "impatient people to make them quiet for a while" because all they basically do is print out the case status and mail it to you. It was a bit of a sour interaction but the guy wasn't particularly rude.

Then today I get my biometrics appointment in the mail (for an appointment next week). Maybe a coincidence, maybe going out there and bothering them in person made them do something. The fact that he said they hadn't sent the letter out when I got there (10am appointment) and that I got the letter 24 hours later makes me think a bit.

    Who knows.

  2. I'm here on a K1 visa and filed for AOS/EAD/AP in November and was given a receipt notice dated November 19.

I recieved I-797 Notice of Action saying my EAD and AP was approved (dated Feb 2) but I haven't received a letter for a biometrics appointment. I called USCIS last week and the gentleman put in what I think he called a service request to inquire about my case and why I haven't received the appointment yet. I haven't heard anything back from that yet.

My question is, how is it possible the EAD was approved without a biometrics appointment? Was it just approved but won't be issued until the appointment? I've been eagerly checking my mail daily because I really want to get a job.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Hello,

I just got married (yay!) and I'm now trying to continue on this lovely process of emigrating to the USA. I am so confused and probably over complicating things and just running myself into a ditch. I'm hoping someone can give me a list that I can just check each thing off.

What agencies in Canada do I need to tell that I have moved and am living in the US? My last name changed, how do I tell Canada that?

How do I tell the CRA? When I file taxes for this year? I changed my address on the CRA website but I don't know if that counts.

What about my passport? Do I just buy plane tickets with my maiden name?

What about my driver's licence? Do I just let it expire and get a new american one?

Does my name change for my Social Insurance Number?

Thank you all in advance I am just worrying myself sick.

  4. Just got a Loomis notification email. "Your passport has been picked up from the Consular Section and within the next few days you will be able to pick it up at:" and the loomis location I picked. It has tracking information too.

My interview date was May 19th, the CEAC website still says Administrative Processing (last update June 8).

    Horray!

  5. Just out of curiosity, did you happen to have any issues with your interview? Any documents you needed to send after the fact?

I only ask as there seems to be a small pattern developing here of people who had a flawless interview in Montreal yet for some reason are being held up for unknown reasons.

Yeah my interview was flawless as well. I actually brought too many documents believe it or not. The only "unique" thing I can think my case has that may differ than others is that I am engaged to someone in active military service. I would think if anything that would help speed the process up! Not that I expect special treatment, I just know how Americans favour their military people.

  6. Today marks 4 weeks since my interview (May 19th). Went into AP June 8, no update since then. I'm thinking of asking my sponsor to contact his congress person next week if there is no change. My travel plans aren't until later but I don't want to wait too long and scramble last minute.

  7. At least you have some leeway for your travel time! Just out of curiosity, did your interviewer give you a time frame as to when your passport/visa would be sent to you? If so, what was that time frame?

He told me I would get an email in two week saying it was ready to pick up at the loomis branch. Seems to be the standard response.

  8. Hi all, I've been lurking this forum a lot and it's super helpful but I'm at a huge roadblock (haha puns).

I called Nissan headquarters to request my letter of compliance and the lady said it's on this magic list of "non-importable vehicles." I have a 2015 Micra and she said all Micra and Sentras are non-importable.

I just got this car last year so I'm not prepared to give it up! I called my dealership too and they had no idea what to do.

It DOES have an EPA sticker under the hood but no FMVSS - just a CMVSS. She directed me to a list of registered importers but that seems sketchy and of course she said "Nissan does not recommend modifying your car." And even working with an importer, without that letter of compliance I'm out of luck right?

If anyone knows what I should do I would super appreciate it.
