Typically, you should be OK to travel domestically with a valid passport. TSA mostly just wants to verify identity on domestic travel. Your license should be fine since it is still valid. I would use both to prove your identity. TSA should not be worried about verifying residency for domestic travel.

Thank you, that is a huge help!

Should I be looking into an infopass appointment? I see a lot of mention of it here for people who's GC's expire soon and considering mine expired April 22, it would probably be a good idea?

  3. Also, does anyone have any knowledge about travelling via plane within the United States on a probationary driver's license? I am flying to Miami two weeks from today from Newark. My probationary license expires July 22 however, I cannot renew it right now because I don't have the NOA from the I-751. On the other hand, if I travel with my Canadian passport, I would need to carry my expired green card with me along with the NOA which again, I do not have yet. Any suggestions???

  4. Sort of unrelated but I had my (second) road test today and I passed! Just sending the good vibes to everyone... one of my ultimate life goals. Good luck to everyone with AP/EAD/Green Cards/DMV stuff. I'M SO HAPPY!

Firstly, congrats to you!!! That's major.

Pardon me if this has already been asked, as I haven't been on here in what feels like forever, why second road test? I just tried to do my G2 in Canada and failed so I am starting from the beginning here now, womp.

Secondly, congrats to everyone on their respective interviews/GC's/EAD's etc.

PS: For anyone travelling on their GC for the first time, it is easy peasy! Border security on both ends was SO much nicer to me this time around than any of my previous visits to my fiance/visiting home. They must have asked me max two questions on each end and they were simple "you're here to visit family?" sort of things.

  5. Wow!!That's so awesome!! I've mentioned this before, and I'll mention it again....it really seems like the processing times on their website are not accurate at all, the Newark office (my local office also) is supposedly processing cases of April, 2015 and yet you just got approved without an interview in less than 3 months!! Which I also have noticed that they are approving so many cases without interviews, it's just so great to hear the good news, it really gives us hope, especially since the Newark local office is supposedly so backlogged.

Wish you all the best and congrats!

Thank you! Yeah, I've heard loads of similar stories about the Newark office which totally surprised me, as I too had read plenty of horror stories about how backlogged they are. I mean there are still quite a lot of people waiting for interviews from a year ago. I guess we are lucky in the sense that they seem to be waiving as many as they can currently to avoid creating an even bigger backlog.

All the best to you as well!

  6. Congrats to those who have received updates! :dancing:

For those of you still waiting, to give you an idea of how buggy the online system is atm - I received a text message yesterday that my I-485 had been updated. It said card delivered to post office. I received my card TWO weeks ago. I would definitely give them a call because the way the system is atm, is enough to drive anyone crazy.

Guess who is having a good morning !!! Me DUH!!! I checked my case status and it says my ead card is mailed to me and if I didn't get the card by June 9 to contact usics.thank god!!! my I-131 also approved. No update on my I-485 yet

    Major congrats!

  7. So we went out for the weekend and when we got back home, the approval notice for my ead is there! What's weird is, my case online for AP is still 'case received' but then in my notice it says both my EAD and AP were approved and should wait for a separate document. I'm happe yet confused hahaha is this normal?

    Congrats!

It is indeed normal. It is really up to the individual person processing your case whether they want to provide all of the online/text updates or not. The hard copy approval trumps everything so just be excited! Your (hopefully combo) card will be shortly.

  8. I answered this awhile back they use your passport photos to staple onto your applications at the top of each application there is a spot for it where it's says office use. I know this because when they opened my K1 packet I saw my passport stapled in the same spot located on all other forms :)!

Ah, I must have missed that! Thank you!

It worked out in my favour. Despite my hair looking ridiculous in the biometrics photo, I was at least smiling instead of mean mugging like my passport photo lol.

  9. So just ran out to the mailbox in hopes my green card would be in there and sure enough, there it was! Not sure what they use the passport pictures for that we sent in with the application because my GC photo is also the one that was taken at biometrics.

It's so intense. They give you an envelope to hold your card in to prevent "electronic interference."

Congrats to all receiving good news and god's speed to those still waiting.

  10. YAY my combo card just arrived in the mail! It's quite thick, just like my old Canadian Driver's License; no worries about it getting damaged. It came with a little sheet on parole that makes me very nervous @_@ I REALLY don't want to be denied to come back, after all this hard work and waiting! We were going to drive up to my parents' tomorrow to surprise my mom for early Mother's Day but now I'm not so sure... has anyone else used their AP yet?

Don't be nervous. From what I understand, no one on these forums has been denied entry with AP. I booked a flight as soon as mine came in haha. (Have yet to use it though as flight is still two weeks away). Just be prepared. If you've changed your name, carry a copy of your marriage cert and you should be fine. :)

  11. Looks like they updates the USCISapp with a 3.0 , which seems to load better on my phone and updates sooner which is a plus :)

There is a phone app!? I am so happy I didn't know about that haha.

I guess so, I know it sounds weird but it seems that you need the greencard in order to get the SSN without restrictions. I think the reason why the EAD can not replace that statement is because there are other types of visas that allow people to work without having a greencard like J, HB1, F1.

Right now I just want a SSN so I can start working soon as I didn't apply for one before my I94 expired. If I wait for the greencard to come in the mail I could lose opportunieties to find a job.

    Makes sense! Thank you :)

I'm glad I never went in after receiving EAD or I would have been super annoyed to say the least.

That is a shitty situation. I'm sorry. I hope your GC gets here stat.

Just got the EAD/AP combo card in the mail!!

    CONGRATS!!!!

  12. So I went to the SSN office today (with my GC) to have my last name changed on my SSN card from maiden to married and they said their systems are not cooperating with USCIS systems. They gave me a letter of confirmation and said it might take up like 4 weeks. When I called USCIS to ask what's going on they referred me to the local office to make an infopass apt (but it was closed today anyway).

Anyone had similar experience with changing name on SSN recently / know what is going on?

Also, just curious do you guys plan on carrying your GC on you or have it in safe? Seems like law states to have it on you at all times (as per the GC letter), but I have to say my instincts say it would be better to lock it up somewhere safe. I asked the USCIS lady over phone about this as well as I was thinking maybe carrying EAD instead (though this would only work for the first year), but she said she is unable to answer my question ... that being said I might just start carrying it everywhere but will have it if I lose it someone steals it and it will be another $400 for replacement ... what do you guys plan to do? Carry on you or no?

Tbh I think I will leave it at home unless travelling. I feel like the combo card should be good enough for most identification purposes however, if I hadn't received the combo card I would definitely carry the GC with me at all times.
