  1. I moved back to the US recently (I'm the USC) and called the EI Interstate Claims phone number. I read this is required if you have already moved to the states.

I was told that since I had worked in Canada for at least the last year I should complete the EI Application and they would send me a questionnaire. I will have to provide copies of my US Passport & Canadian Permanent Resident Card.

Have any other USC's applied after their spouse received an IR-1 Visa and they moved to the US?

  2. We finally received an email today saying that the passport has to be sent in right away since the medical expires June 17, 2016.

So Sean sent his passport off today by express post so it will be in Montreal off-site on Friday, June 3, 2016.

I will be heading to the US myself for my mom & hoping the turn-around is fast for the passport return since he is unable to travel now until he gets his passport back with the Visa attached.

  3. Well, we have been on roller coaster of feelings for the last 2 weeks since our status has changed from AP to:

    May 19 - Ready

    May 27 - Issued

May 31 - back to AP

We have not received any correspondence sine the status was changed on May 19th.

We need to send my husband's passport but now have a family medical issue that requires travel to the US so I guess we will be holding off the rest of the immigration process until we know my mom will be ok (possible open heart surgery). My husband says that he does not want to be unable to travel to the US over the next couple weeks.

I just wish there was a person to talk to instead of just sending an inquiry email.

  4. Anybody had an experience about how long it takes between time of passport request email and visa issuance?

So the consulate did not have your passport when the visa was ready to issue and they requested it?

We are in that situation but our status changed to Issued on Friday without the consulate having the passport. We are just waiting on some kind of correspondence as to the next step.

I'm surprised the status changed from Ready to Issued within a few days without have the passport at the consulate.

  5. Have been in administrative processing and on May 19 the status changed to READY but no correspondence email. On May 27 the status changed to ISSUED. Very happy about this but our concern is we still have not sent my husbands passport to Montreal due to US travel obligations. Will we receive an email to submit or will Montreal just send the Visa to our address along with port of entry paperwork?

  6. We have been at a status of Administrative Processing because they needed more documents which they received on April 26th.

Today our status changed to READY.

Should we get our hopes up that they will request the passport (didn't send due to travel plans) so the Visa can get Issued?

  9. We have been in AP status since our January interview. Sent in most recent documents and received by consulate on April 26, 2016.

We are hoping for a "positive" review of documents this time (3rd try).

My husband/immigrant did not send his passport to Montreal with the documents due to our frequent travels to the US to visit my mom. I'm assuming CEAC will send an email to request the passport after reviewing the documents, which to me would be a very good thing/approval.

Just wondering if it will take the same length of time as the document review takes (4-6 weeks) to get the passport back. He will be unable to travel to the US until her receives it back.

    Thanks for any insight/information.

  10. We have been in Administrative Processing since January.

We just sent in a new I-864 . Our original form did not satisfy because we did not have funds in a U.S. account, they were all in Canadian accounts/investments. We did not want to involve a joint sponsor so we had to cash in some of our investments from Canada, which takes time, and transfer them to my US checking account since we are using assets only (no US income) since I am living in Canada and my income will not continue in the US.. We are over the poverty line calculation for the 3 years ($20,075x3) by several thousand dollars. We also included a letter signed by a bank officer verifying that I have the funds in a U.S. checking account.

We are hoping this will satisfy Montreal and we will get the approval in about 4-6 weeks. This has been going on long enough and we would like to get our life started in the US.

    Wish us luck!

  11. OK Time to Vent.....

After waiting exactly 1 month (Jan 26 to Feb 26) since Montreal received the documents they said we needed at the interview (I-864 instead of I-864A) we received an email yesterday that we need a "new" joint sponsor. At the interview, the guy looked at our sponsors income & assets and said he could make it work we just need to send in the correct form.

We have requested my husband's passport back thru the public inquiry form since we have a trip planned in 2 weeks to the US.

Does anyone know how long it will take for them to get the Passport in the mail and how long we can expect for delivery. We fly out on March 12th.

We have contacted a relative who will be our "new" joint sponsor. She will mail the documents directly from the US in the next few weeks. Do we need to send husband's passport back about the same time or when the Administrative Processing is complete in Montreal will they advise that we need to send at that time?

Thanks for listening and making any suggestions. This can be very stressful especially when you think all is good and they just need a form.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.

Got husband's passport back today. Sent from Montreal yesterday, arrived today.

We need to travel to the US over the next several weeks. We also need to help our joint sponsor complete the I-864 and get the supporting documents ready to send.

Has anyone sent requested documents and waited to send passport until papers are reviewed and Embassy asks you to send?

  13. Been in AP status since Jan 11. Our status updated date has changed when we sent email inquiries (2 times). Last one February 22, 2016.

Yesterday the Status Updated Date changed to February 25, 2016 without any inquiries from us.

Does this mean that someone is working on our file?

Hopefully our status will change to ready/issued in the next few days.

    Good luck to all waiting.

  14. I have not had time to read thru all the posts, sorry for asking if it was answered previously.

I am a US Citizen with Permanent Resident status in Canada who has worked full time for the past 16 years for Canadian companies (since I became a Landed Resident and was allowed to work).

Does this mean I might qualify for Canadian EI while looking for a job in the US upon moving back? or is it just for Canadian Citizens?

  15. We both have our own personal items but the majority of the stuff is from the house where we both used them. We could make a few trips down with just "my" stuff and hold off moving spouse's stuff until we have the moving van at the end.

Have been in AP since January 11th due to needing a joint sponsor. The Consulate received the required paperwork 4 weeks ago and we are still waiting for a status change.

We need to list our house and I would like to keep working until the end of March or mid April. My spouse is lucky enough to be able to keep his job and be transferred to a US company.

  16. Keep in mind that once you activate your visa you are no longer a resident of Canada and cannot get health care etc in Canada.

Do you have to activate the Visa on your first trip down to the US? Or can you activate at a later date?

The reason I ask is that we will be making a few trips to move things but will continue to work & reside in Canada for a few months (April/May).

If the Visa is activated then we will have to look into US insurance until our jobs start down south.

  17. Interview was January 11th. Was informed that we needed a joint sponsor so sent in the form and it was delivered to Montreal Youville address on January 20th. Emailed consulate for a status update on February 9th. Received reply within a few hours stating "we received the documents on January 26th, 2016. We ask that applicants allow for 8 weeks of processing time from the day we receive the documents at post."

We were hoping to go South for the Family Day Weekend but since my husband doesn't have his passport we are unable.

Hoping for an issue very soon just for the peace of mind that all is good.

  18. Hi all,

we've been scheduled an interview at the Montreal Consulate next month. We were under the impression that the petitioner should be present at the interview but read on the consulate website about the visitor policy. Does anyone know if that means that the petitioner can't be present with the applicant? Or does that just apply to other family members?

    Hello,

I seen Montana on your info stats. I am from Montana but have been living in Canada for the past 17 years. We will be moving to Montana soon.

My husband had his interview recently in Montreal and I was able to go to the first window where you hand in your paperwork but I had to stay in the waiting area while he had the interview.

If you have any other questions just let me know and I will try to help. Us Montanans should stick together.

  19. Bring the original signed I-864 stuff, they asked me for that. I can't remember if they wanted the IRS transcripts that were attached as well? I think so. Anything that they had that S next to in the P4 letter, I would bring the originals. They may not want them, but if they do, you'd better have them.

    Good luck to Sean! :)

I had my interview this morning. They wanted the original (signed!) I-864 and the 2014 tax transcript. If you're relying on assets, bring proof of that too.

My concern now is we decided a few days ago to revise the I-864 to include Sean's (the immigrant) Canadian assets since he plans on selling/cashing in the future.

Does anyone know if we can just hand in the newest signed I-864 along with a photocopy at the interview? or should we wait to see if we qualify with the old information (cutting it close considering I have no income just Canadian assets) and present if not approved?

  20. Can I submit a revised i-864 at the interview?

We have decided to include my husband's Canadian assets to help boost the household income/assets. He plans on selling or cashing them in so he figured we might as well include them as future cash available.

I had originally submitted the I-864 with only my and our co-sponsors information (along with the I-864A from the co-sponsor).

Can we just hand this to the person at the window that takes our other documents?

Our interview is on Monday (Jan 11th).

I thought we had everything in order and now I have to worry about them accepting this revised form.

  21. Congrats! Our IR-1 interview is this coming Monday (Jan 11th).

Keep us in your thoughts & prayers that everything goes smooth and we get an instant approval.

Not the best sleeps lately, my head just keeps buzzing - "what if we are missing something"

Since I have Friday off, I will be laying everything out to quadruple check that I have all originals & photocopies needed.

We fly to Montreal on Saturday and fly back Tuesday.
