  1. I would appreciate any help I can get here, thanks an advance for this website and the advice given here.

I live in Alaska and nearly all the construction/surveying work here is seasonal. I work as an associate party chief for an engineering firm in the summer and I am self employed during the winter. I showed $68,000 on my 1040 for last year after expenses/deductions (I think its line 28). I just got hired back for the season as of June 13th and have only received 2 paychecks. Our interview is scheduled for July 21st and I am attending. I will have proof of 4 paystubs before the interview only because I was just recently hired back on. I get paid weekly and in my first week back I made $2,947 before taxes, last weeks pay check was well over 2k before taxes and this coming pay check will be well over 2k. Most of the work we do is government work and I am paid $28.55 per hour private scale and $36 per hour government scale (Davis Bacon) plus a lot of overtime. My first month back and just before the interview I will show over 10k Year to Date before taxes on my paystubs. I also can show over $30k in money I brought in from my side business this year as I have copies of the checks.

I live in Soldotna, AK and fly up to Fairbanks in the summer and live here for the summer but I still claim residence there and all my petitioning stuff is for my address there since it is my permanent residence, thats where I showed my fiance' will live on our DS160.

Does it affect your financial support if your work is only seasonal and you are self employed during the winter? I am putting $68,000 as my annual salary on my i134 because thats what I made last year and it will be probably more than that this year but I want to made sure I am not over exaggerating my income. I also have properties I can show as assets but I was filling it out on Rapid Visa and it says I do not need to show assets because I made enough last year. I have a 1099 from last year showing $75k plus my W2 from my employer showing $28k. I have a piece of property in Arizona assessed at $26k owned free and clear, and a property owned in Alaska assessed at 9k owned free and clear. I have other properties but they are not quite paid off.

My fiance' is nagging me to get a letter of employment which my boss is extremely busy as it is non stop rush in Alaska in the summer and I dont like to bother him with things plus because I just had to take several days off to attend the interview. Do I really need a letter of employment? To me it seems like the pay stubs are adequate since it says the company, my social security #, and all I have made. I would rather not fill out a letter of employment because I am not going to mention the fact my position is seasonal full time, but its seasonal full time every year.

I want to avoid getting a 221g because I have spent a long time apart from my fiance' and have spent thousands and thousands for us to be together and we are so close now I can taste it! I am 25 years old and there are probably not that many 25 year olds that make as much as I do but I just want to make sure all my ducks are in a row.

It seems like its going to be a walk in the park at the interview since there is going to be 0 questions about how genuine our relationship is, but I am thinking there might be questions about my income and what I do. I paid $15,000 in taxes last year and all I am trying to do is get my fiance' here so I can get married, gets so frustrating as a tax payer when we have to defend ourselves against our government!

Sorry for the long message, thank you for everyone here on this website helping others, you are truly a blessing to a lot of people. This website is changing lives. I am sure this website has helped countless people, I really feel like I need to donate because I have used the advice here many times.

We are attending our interview in Manila, Philippines. I am spending 2k in plane tickets and taking several days off work, are there good chances they will let me come inside to attend the interview with my fiance'? Will I go up to the window/counter with her or will I remain seated? I always stick out like a sore thumb in the Philippines so I want to try to blend in haha. I will wear my Philippine polo haha.

    Thank you so much!!

  2. Thanks! The only thing I am a little concerned with is the income requirement. I worked for an employer last year and I was self employed. I am currently only self employed. My 2014 taxes on line 22 is $68,000. After expenses last year I made $68,000 but since I am self employed do they want to see farther back on my taxes? I am waiting for construction season to fire back up here in Alaska and I will go back to work for the same employer I did last year. I am a land surveyor so I just work on my own during the winter. Prior to my last years tax return I do not meet the income requirement, will that be a problem. My income from last year is way over the poverty line but since I am self employed is that a problem? I do have some assets like property in Arizona assessed at $26,000 and property in Alaska assessed at $15,000.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Thanks for the replies to all of you! I just got this email tonight from USCIS - On June 3, 2015, we approved your Form I-129F, Petition for Fiance(E) !! So I guess it was approved! Only 42 days I cant believe it. I feel so blessed to have it approved so fast. I feel so bad for petitions sitting at Texas Service Center. I really, really feel for those couples. If the couples get through the delays of the US Government, they can get through anything!

I am stunned how great she is. Perhaps I was not looking in the right places here in the US but no one in the US would ever make me slide shows, write me hand written letters, line the hotel room with thousands of hand cut out hearts, wipe my hands when we are out at the restaurant, or wipe my forehead when I am sweaty, endless things its crazy how great she is. I don't need a servant, I want to serve her too but the kindness she shows is beyond anything I ever imagined.

I really am going to try to be there at the interview, at least be there to calm her nerves because she is really nervous about the interview. I am going to start doing a daily quiz so she knows answers to everything.

I cant thank this website enough, reading on here and the help you get on here is outstanding. People here just volunteering their time to help and encourage others, very great thing.

  4. Just do not mess around if you are coming in on a Visa. I am a US citizen so bringing in some cigs for my mom and inhalers for my dad is no big thing. They are a lot harder on you when you come in on a Visa, I can tell by how fast the other lines move when I am waiting at the POE. Don't bring in anything besides all your documentation, your clothes, your sentimental things, and anything else you NEED. Just an example I brought in a 6 pack of beer into Canada and they pulled me aside and interrogated me just because I had a 6 pack of beer. Just lay low, be respectful, have your documentation and you will be fine. They cant play favoritism, the Law is the Law, but they sure can cause you delays and heart ache.

  5. I just went through Guam POE on April 8th and the lady I dealt with was very nice. I was filling out the card for Customs and the bomb sniffing dog came up and was smelling my bag and I was questioned and I showed him it was food inside. Then AGAIN, another officer with a bomb sniffing dog came up and smelled my bag and I was questioned again. I told him, just as I told the other officer there is food in the bag, want to see?! haha. They are just bored and need something to do. The TSA on the other hand was ridiculous. There was like 10 of them working and I was the only person going through security and they were all staring at me asking me questions.

  6. Thanks for the replies! I seems silly to some people why we got engaged so fast but we instantly clicked. I always told myself I would wait at least a year before getting engaged but I contradicted myself. I just never met anyone special. We were in love before we saw each other in person. We are not a huge age separation so I am sure that helps. That is crazy they asked about that. I just bought a piece of property here in Alaska and I am installing a DEC approved septic system this weekend and going to start constructing the slab on grade within the next couple weeks for the house. I suppose she we need to know everything. She is smart I will fill her in on everything. Per DEC specifications the septic system is rated for 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms with 1,000 gallon septic system and the soil rating was SP with an application rate of 150 sf/br. My fiance' will size his leach field 2x4x60 and use 3/4 inch to 3" drain rock with filter fabric and use perforated 4" pipe HAHA. Its crazy they asked about what the house looked like, especially if they have never been to the United States or been to your house. I have been giving her videos of everything that is going on so we should not have a problem. I will send her construction photos in case they ask.

It is really stressful going through the visa process and I feel for everyone else that has to deal with it. My last name is Garcia, my ancestors came to this Country legally. It is so unfair how the Mexicans can hop over the border, have a kid and go get a drivers license in California as illegals. It seems us tax payers get put on the back burner. I understand the waiting process as they want to limit fraud but I have read about some people at TSC waiting over 6 months just to get their NOA2, to me that is totally unacceptable. I am so thankful that our petition went to CSC but I feel so bad for the people that had their petition go to TSC.

Thanks to the members of this site. Thanks to the owners/developers of this site. It is really a great thing and I am extremely appreciative.

  7. Hello,

I did not want to limit my search for love to the United States so I thought I would look in the Philippines just to see what is out there. I ran an ad on Craigslist (yes I know it is sad but it was worth it!) I met the love of my life on Craigslist. I just turned 25, she just turned 20. We met in January of this year and we started dating on February 9th. I flew to see her on March 25th and stayed in the Philippines until the 8th of April. I sent in the I129f on April 15th and got our NOA1 notice on April 22 and hardcopy in the mail a few days later. Case was routed to the California Service Center. Its very hard to be away from each other and I miss her so much I had to go back to see her and my second trip was May 9th to May 27th and I just got back a few days ago. I already feel like going back but it gets a tad bit expensive flying from Alaska to Manila round trip. Neither of us have any criminal history and no prior marriages. I am reading that NOA2 is coming in from CSC in as little as a month. I know no one here knows for sure but can I expect to hear back soon? I am praying this goes through fast because as everyone here knows it is torment to be apart.

Also since we have not known each other for years, is that a red flag for the interview? We are engaged (became engaged on March 27th), our relationship is real, we love each other. I know the government cant tell us we have to wait simply because we have not known for years but has anyone ran across this issue? Obviously it is beneficial to be at the interview, does the Embassy in Manila let the petitioner be at the interview?

Thank you very much for your help. This website has given me hope its not going to take a year for us to be together.

    Very excellent website!

  8. Create an account on USCIS website and ad your receipt number and it will show that last date your petition was touched. I spoke with USCIS a few days ago and he said it does not affect your case if it does not show up online, it will still be updated within the 45 day mark, if it does not call up USCIS.
