  1. Hello,

I recently went to an Infopass appointment in Chicago to ask about my I131 application to travel as I applied in July(5months ago) and it hasn't even registered on the USCIS website to check up on. The guy was really nice, telling me that my case was at the final stage where it was basically sat on someone's desk waiting to get approved. I told him that I need to travel back to the UK in 2 weeks (4th Jan 2017) and that we had booked tickets and planned to attend my Mother's wedding with the understanding that it takes up to 90days for the form to be approved. He told us that we should email to ask for an expedite as my case is being processed in MO.
We did not have an email address for the MO centre so I rang them and expedited over the phone. The man at the Infopass appt. said that as it had been well over the 90days and that we had booked to attend my mother's wedding that expedition would go through as it is an emergency case. I received an email three hours after I requested expedition telling me that my case would not be expedited.

What can I do now? Everyone I have spoken to, including a family friend who is an immigration lawyer, says that firstly just the fact that it has been well over the 90days that we have grounds to expedite; plus that I am attending my Mother's wedding too makes it an emergency.

  2. AP is used to re-enter the US. You will have the name on your ticket that matches your passport. You will show your passport and AP to re-enter the US. Have a copy of your marriage certificate on hand too, just in case they want to see the name change document.

Getting a lawyer is most likely not necessary to respond to an RFE.

Thanks, I was worried about travelling with 2 different names.

I wasn't going to get a lawyer just because of the RFE, it was more in general - if the money is worth it to move my AP case along quicker.

  3. Hi,

I just checked the USCIS page and it says I have been sent an RFE for my AOS form.
I was wondering will this affect the processing of my EAD and AP?

Also, I was wondering if it is going to be a problem travelling with an AP that has my married name on it, when my passport has my maiden name. I know airlines require the name on the plane ticket to be the name in your passport, but then will this affect me flying using my AP card if it is not in the same name?

Lastly, I was hoping to return back to the UK in January for my Mother's wedding. I sent off my AOS, EAD and AP forms and the estimated date for their approval is mid-october. Is it realistic that I will be travelling home in January, especially now regarding the RFE on my AOS. I was wondering whether or not it would be worth it to hire an immigration lawyer. Has anyone had experience with them before? I'm very curious.

    Thanks!

  4. "We got married back in July. My wife tried to go to the Social Security Office in August to change her name on her Social Security Card and the person there basically told her that she had to wait util all of the Adjustment of Status stuff went through, which I'm nearly positive is not the case. Has anyone else experienced this? Or did she just get someone that has no idea what they are talking about? I don't want to send her back there again and be told the same thing again."

I experienced something similar. They said that my K1 visa had expired (which it had but I always thought the expiration date was just the date by which I had to be married), and they said that the computer would not accept my visa as proof of my immigration status because of this. She told me to come back when my AOS had happened, but I'm kind of stuck as I don't have any identification with my married name on it, other than my marriage certficate.

  5. Hi guys,

    hope you can help!

I'm sending off my AOS package this weekend.
arrived on a K1 VISA 4/21 and had to be married by 7/19. My husband and I were married 6/23, well within the deadline, however it took a while to decide whether or not I wanted to change my name. I decided I wanted to go ahead, so I took my via in my passport and my marriage certificate to the ssn office, but because I didn't have 14 days left on my visa, they were not able to change my name. The officer said that the computer would not let her finish my name change and that I would have to wait until I sent off for my green card before I would be able to change my name.

My question is this: My last name is still my maiden name, however on all my AOS forms I have used my married name (as advised on this website). Is that still okay, seeing as my name won't legally be changed to my married name until after I receive my EAD/green card - I have no identification with my full married name on it.

Secondly, I am sending off my EAD and AP in this AOS package, so do I still only need 2 passport photographs, or should I include more??

Thanks, you guys have helped me so much before and so I'm sure someone can help me now!

  6. They mean the TB skin test to determine if you have tuberculosis. Civil surgeons perform that first and later x-Ray only if the red dot on your arm swells to 5 mm or whatever. It's part of the full exam. OP was cleared of TB with a chest x-Ray and does not need what he is calling a "TB vaccination". Finding someone who will skip the exam part is a challenge.

Okay great, I was looking on the list of vaccinations and I couldnt see my TB one, but I remember my xray scan and have the CD ROM of it too. Thanks!

  7. You were examined at London, Knightsbridge correct? Did they give you a DS3025 at the end of your appointment and did you have all your required shots beforehand or done at Knightsbridge? I don't really know what they mean by TB vaccination...(the BCG is not routinely given in the US, but was often given in the UK). The required shots are TD, MMR, flu (waiver if not in season), chicken pox (waived if you have had chickenpox).

I have my DS3025 and had all my vaccinations were up to date so I didn't have any done at Knightsbridge.

Civil surgeon offices can be very much uninformed about the K1 process, so it's important to find one that can help you. Try searching through this thread to see if there is a civil surgeon that may be able to help. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/231026-civil-surgeons-who-dont-rip-you-off/

    Thanks for this link!

In general a visit to a civil surgeon is not coverable by insurance companies.

    Thanks for your help!

Why are you needing to see a civil surgeon? What vaccinations were not included at your K-1 exam and marked off on your DS-3025?

According to the AoS guide on here I need a civil surgeon to sign off on my I693.

  8. I'm a little confused and would greatly appreciate the help.

I am marrying this Friday June 24th 2016, and I was gathering everything to send off for my AoS (I arrived to the States on a K1 visa).

I have just rang around some medical centres with civil surgeons which I found on the USCIS website, and all of them are telling me that I will need a TB vaccination if I have not had in the last year, and one centre told me I would have to have my bloodwork done again if I have not had it done in the past 6 months (for reference, I had my medical examination and DS 3025 filled out Dec 1st 2015).

I explained to them what I have read on the pinned post about the I693 form and the AoS Guide for K1s - which is that I do not need anything doing except having the form signed off by a civil surgeon as I will be sending my AoS forms off within a year of my London medical exam - however I am being told by everyone that I will need a TB vaccination at least and so I am now confused as to what I actually need done.

Also, is it best to wait until I am on my (soon-to-be) husband's medical insurance before I go in for this, as will this affect the cost?

Thanks for the help, I would love to get everything sorted and sent off as soon as poss!

  9. Hey everybody!

I will be leaving the UK and entering the US in April on my K1 visa.

My mum and stepfather are engaged and hoping to get married this year in the UK (2016) and would like my fiance and me to attend.

I just wanted to explore my options early on, I know I have a bit of time yet.

When I am applying for my adjustment of status after we are married in June, do I apply for Advanced Parole or just a reentry permit?

Also, as my parents want to book a date and secure a venue for their wedding, would I have any guarantee that my requests would be processed before then?

    Thanks

  10. Hello,

I received a social security number three years ago when I worked at a summer camp in the US. This was so I could work and be paid.

I have recently applied for and been approved a K1 visa, and intend to move over to the States in April. I was wondering if my old social security number is my forever social security number and if it will still be valid for me to use when I move over.

I still have the paperwork I recieved when I first got my social security number in 2013.

    Thanks for the help!

  11. My London embassy appointment is in mid-January, and should all things go well, I will be moving to the US to be with my fiancé in April. I have a question, however, about receiving my passport back after the embassy interview.

I understand that the embassy retains my passport and then has it delivered to a location where I have registered to collect it if my application is successful, but I am travelling to Israel at the end of February, and I didn't know whether or not I can use my passport for this trip, as I know that the embassy provides you with an envelope/ sealed package that shouldn't be opened until my POE in the US.

IS MY PASSPORT INCLUDED IN THE SEALED PACKAGE OR AM I ABLE TO USE MY PASSPORT TO TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE US BEFORE I MOVE.

    Thanks :)o

  12. Thanks so much, I thought I had the right end of the stick but I just wanted to be sure!

That's right - you need just the I-134 for the K1 visa. It's a financial agreement that covers the time between your entry to the US on the visa and your adjustment of status to a proper green card holder.

However, when you then come to marry and do the Adjustment of Status process, you'll supply the I-864 - for this you can either use the same sponsor or if by then your new spouse is making sufficient funds, he can be the sole sponsor.

You should take a look at the guides section on this site (look in the main nav) - there's instructions for the K1 process.

  13. Hi there everybody,

Just wanted to say that this website has helped me so much with my application.

I am applying for a k1 visa to live in the USA. I am from England and so will be attending my embassy interview in a couple of months.

On the embassy reviews I see a lot of people saying that they have a co-sponsor for their visa. What does this mean?

My boyfriend did not have a job when we began applying in July, however now he has two part-time jobs. As a result of this, we have asked his father to fill out the I-134 form, as on the London us embassy website it says that K division visa are not required to fill out the I864 form.

    Is this correct?

I am known to worry a lot so any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
