  1. mom has a standard non-immigrant visa (valid for 10 years) so she (to help us out with the 1-year-old) decided to come with us. If everything went perfect, she would have returned before 6 months and would come back if needed. Yes, it is the 20th month actually, so there is a big chance of getting into problems I guess.

Me, my wife and my son, we all travel together. I did make a research if we can leave the boy behind in our trips, but I did not get a satisfying answer, and to make sure everything is by the book, we carried him along.

I did not check the career page, but let me do so.

PS: I did find a couple of 'contracted' jobs for 6 to 12 months, but when I asked them what is going to happen after 6 mo's and they told me that we'll find you another project no worries. I told them to legally, in writing provide me something that so that I can start, they said no. So it means that after 6 mo's if they cannot find anything, I am out on the street, have no job, in the winter time, with my family. That's another risk that I cannot take. I know that there are many people took several even bigger risks to live in the U.S. but I am not that desperate. ( I hold a masters degree in IT)

  2. guys, thanks for your answers,

Let me clarify couple of things,

First of all, I am 2016 winner of GC and my first entry is made in June 2016. after one year (before June) we move to (one way) Texas for good. In that time I looked for another job and I was on an unpaid leave. I also tried to speed up things by getting in touch with the people in the U.S. branch of my company. However, after 1.5 months, we saw that we cannot find a job ( i went to a couple of interviews in different states and applied for nearly 225 jobs) and the money we have just got wasted and won't hold up more than 6 months if we continue like this. We were 1 baby and 3 people including mom and my wife. We decided to look for a job from outside of the U.S. and when available I would fly for an interview: and it did happen 2 times, So I fly over the weekend, had the interview and returned. I actually am waiting for one company to get back to me with a positive feedback, hopefully, and willing to relocate right away. Oh by the way, when I say substantial lump sum money, it is substantial for me, or for my country, it is not substantial in the U.S. I guess. It only covers nearly 6 months of standard living of 4 people including car rent, nothing much.

I mean if they see what I am doing (I can prove all job applications, negative returns etc.) and still forfeit my GC, then please do so, I cannot risk my family, their basic standards etc. I just expect a little bit of understanding and sympathy as I am doing everything and paying my every penny that I saved to legally move to the U.S.

It seems like I will travel before 6 months is over, and if they are going to 'deny' me, let it be so...What can I say?

    Thanks :(

  3. Hi Friends,

A quick one for you all. I am a green card holder and am eager to be a U.S. citizen in 5 years. The company I work for (UK based) just completed of the acquisition of some other U.S. company and I directly requested my role and position to change so that without changing my company I would work and live in the U.S. However since those two companies are very big the acquisition process is slow and takes time. After the process, they will work on my task and they say it will take time (maybe more than a year). So I have to work in my current country until everything gets solved. Plus to that, if something happens and they refuse to replace me, as a backup plan, I am applying for other jobs in other companies in the U.S, but no luck yet. I am planning to visit the U.S. every 6 months until I solve this issue and I have a bank account with a good lump sum of money, credit cards, telephone number (mobile). Do you think that it would work, or do I have a (strong) chance of being denied at the border? I know you guys do not have the exact answer, but at least, would this count as an excuse if I am to be questioned or they will directly send me to the court?

    Thanks!

Oh by the way, happily marry Christmas to you all!

  4. Thanks for the answers guys,

To answer to a few; I am an IT guy of 15 years of experience in American companies but in their European or middle eastern branches/HQ's. I left my job that pays really good, and had really good benefits. They even offered me to move to U.K. Headquarters by the end of summer '17. I rejected all and start applying for jobs 3 months before I come to U.S. You will say that it is very easy to find jobs in IT but I am way over being deep technical like a programmer, because I worked as a people/team manager/director for my last 5 years. Even if I accept to lower down my expectations, they will not accept me because of the gap I have from young programmers (I am 36 by the way, but when IT is the concern, programmers are waay younger than me). People do interview me and they say everything seems just perfect but keep asking me if I have U.S. experience which I say 'I have worked for American companies, but not in the U.S. soil' which mostly gets rejection after all.  People also get temporary contracted jobs for 3-6-9-12 months which does not fit me because, even if the payment is ok, if I cannot find another job to continue after the period ends what will my family eat, do , how will I pay the bills?

Plus to that, I forgot to update my profile here but I live in Houston Texas right now.

Thanks for the answers friends.. Let's see what are we going to do.

    -K

  5. Hi all,

I currently live in U.S. for about 2 weeks and cannot find any job that suits me and/or pays as much as I would earn at my home country to keep the family living standards at a level we get used to. My question is, let's say me and my wife decided to go back to our home country and decided to live there and make visits every 6 months. While doing so, if we loose our LPR status and green card, will our child, 1 year old boy, will loose his status also? I am asking this because we make decisions for him since he cannot take part in any decisions. Thank you.

  6. Hi Friends,

I have a quick question. In the begining of 2016 we had our Green card and our baby boy born. Now our baby, my wife and me are green card holders. I know it is quite early but we are thinking about becoming a citizen and will apply after 4 years, when the right time comes for application. The question is, at the citizenship application date, our boy will be maximum 5 years old. He will not be able to do the exam. I do not think he will be able to take the oath either:) So let's say we pass the exam and took the oath and hopefully we became citizens. What will happen to our boy? Will he continue as Green card holder?

    Thanks.

  7. Hi everyone,

Did not want to open up a new topic since this one is quite related to my situation also.

I got my passport with immigrant visa at the end of march '16. We travelled to U.S. on first week of June. Now we want to move to U.S. before March '17. However something troubles us here; do we have to re-enter U.S. around Nov-Dec before 6 months expire from our first entrance or can we just wait and move at the end of one year period? (March '17) Additionally, can my family (wife, kid) stay in U.S. and can I leave? will it be a problem when I get back?

  8. thanks for reply newacct. Good news for us. Actually I am not planning to stay out too much, just trying to land a decent job (most likely the one that I have now) in U.S. As soon as I get offer I will move. If I cannot find what I am looking for I just lower my expectations and find any level in my sector and move in a year hopefully.

How about the second part of my question? can our friends at the stated address for GC collection send us the packet that they will receive over airmail? let's say they sent to us and received it , can we use it for travelling to U.S. or do we have to use the visa on the passport again?

  9. Hello friends,

I received my immigrant visa on my passport and so did my wife and baby boy. What I want to ask is, we are going to travel U.S. in June for a week however due to our current jobs back in Turkey we will get back to our homeland before recieveing our greencard ssn etc. Will it be a problem? can I get out of the country with the visa that we have? can the friends that will recieve our cards send gc cards to us via airmail? or we must wait to get them in US?

    Best Regards

  10. Call the embassy and explain the situation. They will get him added to your case. You will also need to update your DS260 forms and add one for the baby, but you'll probably do that at the interview - I don't think you can access your DS260 once your interview has been scheduled. But don't worry it will all be fine!

    And congratulations :)

    Hi Susie,

Thank you for your promt reply and wishes:) you are the best!

I called the embassy, but they are far from being helpful :( Now, I mailed to both the Turkish embassy and KCC, let's see what will be their answer..

  11. Update-

Friends, I just recieved the interview date, however we are in trouble:)

We had our boy 20 days ago, and applied to passport right away, they said it will arrive tomorrow, however we just recieved the interview date and further instructions. We do not have his name since he is not added to my case? what am I going to do? Please help

  12. thanks everyone for the replies! It is good to hear that I still have my chances to move with my wife and kid (unborn yet:)) We are getting married this sunday, and I will fill in the ds260 forms right away on sunday right after our marriage ceremony. By the way, one more question if I may ask, it has been almost 20 days since I got notified of my lottery win, do I still have the chances to get to go to the interview? I mean I am not late right?
