  1. I feel so very sorry for you guys.

I made the same mistake your wife did 3 years ago when I left to Brazil with an expired American visa, in the middle of our AOS process and following someone’s wrong advice as well.

My husband and I got desperate when I realized I couldn’t go back any time soon - we contacted the US Embassy in Brazil, he made an appointment at a service center etc and it didn’t help much - my AOS process was considered abandoned.

we then had to start it all over again and apply for a CR-1 visa. Our process took 10 months from beginning to end. It was horrible to live 10 months apart from my husband but my advice to you is to apply for the CR-1 for your wife ASAP - it’ll be a long and tedious process.

oh, also when I went to the visa interview in Brazil for my CR-1 the officer had the cancelled AOS in my file and I had to explain myself - just tell the truth and admit that I didn’t know what I was doing. He also had in file a letter that my husband wrote on his appointment at the service center explaining how it all happened and withdrawawing from our former AOS. Upon interviewing the officer did match my version of he story to the letter my husband had written and it matched perfectly (and I think that was what saved our a***)  - maybe you should schedule an appointment at your local service center, be upfront with them and they will most likely request you to write a letter right there explaining everything; you can’t brong it from home - it has to be done in person, in front of the officer at the service center.

and be patient. It will take a while but it will work out in the end.

Finally, you will hear many advice here saying that she will never be able to come back etc - I did a lot when I asked the same question here 3 years ago. Don’t panic, it’s not true, as long as you go to the service center ASAP to explain your situation and she tells the truth in the CR-1 interview. Do NOT wait until the interview letter for the abandoned visa comes!

i hope this was helpful. Best of luck to you and your wife.

  2. Hello! My green card has finally arrived after all the CR-1 process and we couldn't be happier but it's under my maiden name despite we filling all the USCIS forms under my married last name.

My question is: could I still have my DL and SSN issued under my married name regardless of the name printed on my GC? If so, how should we proceed?

Any help is much appreciated. We've read about it but we can't seem to find consistent info on that matter.

    Thank you very much

  3. Approved on the 26th. Thank God this step of the journey is finally over.

Now we are so anxious to see our status change from "Ready" to "Issued". Does anyone know hoe long it usually takes?

We are so anxious to see each other again!!!! Don´t lose hope because even the complicated journeys come to a happy ending at some point.

All I want now is to have my passport back and fly back home.

Thanks you all for your help and support.

  4. No problem!

I was doing some further search and it sounds to me like all already existent Service Centers had dual acronyms at first (their "official" name and the way people used to call each of them).

Take a look at this link to an old webpage: http://www.***removed***/immigration/decipher-uscis-case-receipt-number.html

For example, California Service Center still keeps its old official acronym. My receipt was WAC #### for "Western Adjucation Center", its former denomination.

I imagine that for it being new, not everything is already 100% set up. I guess YSC is the initials for their official name and PSC their "popular" name.

I hope it helps to calm your heart down a little. Everything will be fine :)

Thanks Pedrita. its just that I'm confused because some sites refer to it as PSC. but then I read others that say its YSC..

  5. Hello, VJ friends!

First of all, I apologize because I don´t know how to post this question onto the Brazil-related forum.

I have my interview to the CR-1 visa scheduled for February 26th and my husband mailed out the original civil documents we´ll need this past Tuesday through USPS regular international mail delivering. I´m wondering how long other Brazilians who´s got documents mailed out to them had to wait until they arrived.

I´m so worried I won´t receive the documents on time for the interview.

    Thanks!

  6. I am really happy for you, you touched me with all the anxiety you showed.

Congratulations and best of luck on the rest of this roller-coaster trip.

    Please, please, check

and let us know how many days it takes from today when I am pretty sure still says AT NVC until it changes to READY.

Thank you! I´ll sure let you know when NVC schedules our interview :)
