  1. Yes it seems they messed up the address but why didn't you ask the new residents to forward the letter with the card to you and then deal with the address change?

My previous address was a Motel and the staff refused to forward the letter to me, they say they can only return to sender.

It's a complicated case. The Motel is in Orlando. I am in Europe at the moment, and the green card should have been sent to Tennessee.

  2. USPS delivered my green card to my old address! They didn't even bother to confirm I was living there.

The status of my card is delivered.

I updated my address with USCIS before they produced the green card. It's their error.

Anyways, I phoned the guys living at my old address, and asked them to return the letter to the post office.

What's going to happen now when USCIS receives my card back?

I phoned 1-800-375-5283, the operator cannot give me any personal information by phone, so she cannot confirm the address on file. The only advice she gave me is to make an appointment in person.

Is there a way to tell USCIS to send the green card to my new address by phone?

  3. Hello wobblyal. Thank you for posting your experience.

I will be in a similar situation soon. Due to this post and other post in a similar forum I believe I will be ready to face check in when I come to Heathrow.

Can you tell us exactly what code the check in guy used to finally check you in? That is the 1 million dollar detail.

For those who are boarding a plane to the US carrying only your passport with the endorsement stamp, my advice is:

    1. Check-in at least 4 hours before your flight, if possible. So try not to fly very early in the morning.
    2. Bring a copy of the "carrier information guide" http://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Carrier Information Guide- English.pdf . Either bring it on your cell phone or print page 40. Page 40 shows that the endorsed visa is a valid boarding id
  4. Thank you Susie and hishamali.

I guess I will go with the hotel address for now. Although, the rentusmailbox service say they actually provide a real street address, not a PO Box.

I know I can change the address at the port of entry, but that is still no good. I can only find a home after I enter. Can I change the address after I pass the border?

I am reluctant about not paying the fee before first entry, because the letter in the visa package says "You must submit the $165 U.S. Dollar payment online after receiving your visa package from the Department of State and before you depart for the United States"

  5. I am a DV lottery 2015 winner. I don't have anybody in the US, so at the visa interview I gave an hotel address, of the hotel where I intend to stay in the first few weeks.
I was told at the embassy that as soon as I enter the US, uscis will send the green card to the address given.
I am afraid the card could get lost or stolen at the hotel. Do they send the green card by signed mail?
Would it be better to use a PO Box or something like rentusmailbox.com instead?
Can I leave the US while waiting for the green card and reenter again?

    Could I do something like:
1)enter the US for the first time
2)rent a cheap office or a virtual address to receive the green card
3)call the uscis to update the address
4)Leave the US a week or two after entering for the first time, still without the green card
5)Come back to the US 2 months after entering for the first time, and stay permanently. The green card should be in my mailbox by now

    Thanks
