  1. I know when we filled out the application it had a section if she wanted to change her name. She chose No because her green card and social security card had the name correct as she wanted it. But the one who interviewed her said it needed to match her birth certificate and said she couldn't change it. Ugh maybe they were being quick with everything going on. She was in and out in 15 mins, didn't even ask her 5 questions.

I just thought there was an option to do an official name change during citizenship, and I assumed that would result in the certificate having the preferred, changed name. Was that not an option?

Maybe for last name. She wanted her middle name to match our marriage certificate and her social security card. They specifically said during her citizenship interview and then again after she took her oath that her name first and middle name had to match her original birth certificate. I guess $500 to the court for a name change it is. Thanks everyone!

You posted all the different ways but didn't say what she wants to do. Does she want to remove any name? Does she want to include a new name?

I have 5 names (2 firsts, 3 last, in brazil we don't have middle names). If I included my spouse's name it would be 6, so I decided not to do it. I then had the same issues as her. All my IDs, cards have different variations of my name because they can never fit the whole thing in their systems. I went to court and changed my name to just one first and one last name.

She would like to keep her name 12 4 5. Her original first two names, her maiden name as her middle, and my last name as her last. We had it changed this way at social security when we got married. When she had her citizenship interview two days ago and today at the oath ceremony, they said she couldn't change her middle name to her previous last name because that's not how it read on her birth certificate, despite social security changing it when we got married.

Now that the green cards aren't an issue since they took them, I was wondering what the best way to get the certificate changed is. Or should she just keep it and get used to it.  Thanks!

  4. I need help figuring out what to do with my wife's name. She is from the Philippines. When we met, she had two first names 1 2, her moms last name has her middle name 3, and her fathers last name 4. When we got married, she took my last name 5 and changed her middle to her previous last name.

The issue is the different ways they have her name. After we got married, ss let her change her name to F12 M4 L5. Drivers license wanted it F12 M3 L4. During green card process they wanted it F12 M4 L5. Wife got her citizenship and certificate today, but they said it had to me F12 M3 L5.

So she has all these different names on card, certificates, etc bc each seemed to have their own way how they wanted to do the name and we are lost at what to do. Thanks and sorry for the long post!

  5. These forums were so helpful to me years ago when I married my wife. Once again, I am seeking help.

I have a group of friends who are in the United States on J1 visas. They are two and a half months in their one year internship. Due to the coronavirus, a lot of jobs in the hospitality industry has been shut down. As of now, they have no job and have been told their internship will be cut short. What should be their next, most logical step? Most do not have the money for plane tickets home and some are from countries where travel is currently banned. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

  6. My wife and two children were approved as permanent residents in the end of May 2016. They arrived to the USA from the Philippines in June 2016. We signed them up for health insurance through special enrollment, coverage started July 2016. Will i be assessed a penalty for all 3 from January to June? They would not have been able to receive insurance before then. We signed them up as soon as they were allowed. What exceptions would i need to claim? Thank you.

  7. So my family's visa have been issued and are in hand. My wife and two stepdaughters live in the Philippines. They are packing and getting their paperwork ready for their flights in a week in a half. We realized that one of my stepchildren is listed as a IR2 visa and I was wondering why/hoping this won't be a problem. I looked over both daughters paperwork and they are all the same besides names and birthdates. My wife and I were married in 2014. She has a 5 year old and 3 year old daughter from before we were married. My wife is listed as CR1, the 5 year old is CR2, and the 3 year old is IR2. Does anyone know why? Thank you very much.

  8. <p> Have you contacted the embassy regarding issue?

My wife called the Philippines number a week ago. They said they are waiting for approval and she should hear something back. I called the US number last night which I believe goes right to the embassy in Manila. They said my wife had called last week and they told her they would call back. They are waiting for the embassy. Not sure what she meant. Thanks.

  9. I don't know if any of this information you have already, but I'll include it for your review. If nothing continues to help get your answer call the Embassy and ask for a supervisor. I would be on them like white on rice. Good luck.

Thanks I found this on anothee thread. The first link, the visa says issued. It has said that for a month. The second link says her passport doesn't exist. Thank you.

  10. I found previous threads about how to track the visa, but none dealing with when we can't track it. My wife's visa was approved a month ago. They told her when she was approved she should get her visa and passport back in the mail in 5-7 days. I went online to the CEAC the same day and saw the status was changed to "ISSUED" and it said 7-10 days. 3 weeks later still nothing in the mail so we called the embassy. The embassy said they were waiting to send would have someone contact us when. I just called again and they said they are waiting from the embassy to send. Not sure what embassy they are waiting for since they are the embassy. CEAC still says issued. I tried tracking passport on the ustraveldocs, but it says no passport exists. Any thoughts? Thank you.

  11. Perhaps a state/government issued photo ID (drivers license) along with your birth certificate would be acceptable.

A call to the consulate or an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office might get you a solid answer.

Thanks, I was planning on calling tomorrow. I sent in a certified copy of my birth certificate, and two copies of my drivers license (one notarized just because) hoping it would suffice.
  12. The marriage record is what your after as that is signed sealed and notarized by the courts. Just look at what you have from the court house and that is what the Embassy will need. If there are not witness recordes due to the fact it is not required then send it anyways.

Oh no, you'll be back. They all say that. But low and behold their hand goes up to ask another question. :)

I planned on sending the orignal and 4 copies of everything I received from the courthouse. 1) the signed by the notary and notarized marriage certificate that says "this is to certify that the above is s true and correct copy of the orignal marriage record" and 2) the application for marriage license which is signed by my wife and I plus the clerk, then is once again sign and notarized.
  13. I don't recall having to send pictures with the ROM. With the new passport request there is. Follow the directions on the website and you will have no problems.

    http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/philippines-dc/consular-services-dc/faq-dc/#marriage

Thank you. That it was what I figured. Is there a difference between the marriage certificate and marriage record? I have the certificate but no clue what a record means. And do I need to include witnesses if there are none on the marriage certificate? We of course had people there, but the state we got married doesn't need witnesses as long as the one signing officiated the wedding.

Thank you and this is the end of my questions I promise. You have been a great help. I will be sending these out tomorrow after they are notarized.

  14. DC does not require a notarized affidavit saying why. Your good to go. DC is pretty fast so might have it back in 5 weeks but count on 6-8 and be surprised and thankful if sooner. We filed through DC.

    Thank you so much.

Do you remember if you had to include pictures with the Report of Marriage. I see no mention of it on the requirements on the DC Embassy's website. However, when I call the Embassy there is a recording of a different set of requirements including photographs. I called and reached a person at the embassy and they seemed not sure. Too many inconsistencies there depending on who I talk to, so I am not really sure. Thank you so much.

P.S. And it wasn't even normal 2x2 passport photos; it was something like 1.77 x 1.37 haha.
