  1. That's exactly what I did, Jay. And it was the Consulate Officer at my interview in London that told me to do that.

What are they going to do with the x-rays? They're border control, not doctors. So an x-ray means nothing to them. Besides, the results of the x-ray are on your medical report inside the envelope. So I'd pack them in your suitcase and not worry about it.

I went via Newark as my POE and no one mentioned seeing an x-ray at all. :)

That makes sense, Huffy. Thanks! :)

  2. Hi everybody.

My fiance makes the trip from the UK to the US tomorrow, and will be going to Newark as his Port of Entry. He has his passport with the Visa in it, as well as the mysterious blue packet that came with it. Our question is, is this everything that he will need tomorrow? We believe so, but there were no instructions included with his Visa packet. Just wanting to cover all of our bases.

    Thanks in advance! :)

  3. Well, I am sure that you are worried about this because of how important it is. But honestly, I don't see his past answers being an issue now. I can't imagine that any state department would be so efficient as to actually have access to or look at what he filled out on his previous I-94W forms. If you think he will have no problem with his medical or any other forms required, I wouldn't worry about that. My advice is just to continue to do what you all have been doing and be as truthful as you can.

    Again, good luck! :)

  4. Maybe I'm misreading some of this, but I get the impression that you think if he checks Yes on the mental health question that they are automatically going to turn him away? I don't think that is how it would be handled; they do seem to look at each one on a case-by-case basis.

As far as entering the US before on the visa waiver program, I don't think I understand your question there. Are you worried that, because he put No to the mental health question before, putting Yes now would be a problem? I think, at the very least, they would just ask him for more information and deal with it a bit at a time. I just think it'd be best to keep an open mind about this, as you still seem to be early on in the process anyway. You never know, it could be no problem to them at all once he explains it to them.

Keep the faith, and good luck! :)

  5. My fiancé has been granted a K1 Visa and is due to arrive in the US in a week or so. As he is keen to find work as soon as possible, we are looking for ways to go about this. My understanding is that he is unable to find permanent work until he gets his SSN, which I think is applied for after we are married (I may be reading that wrong).

I can vaguely remember reading somewhere that he can ask for a 90 day EAD at his Port of Entry. Has anyone either experienced this or has knowledge of it? I have read through the FAQ and Guides and am still not sure of the correct way to try to do this.

Any help is appreciated, thanks! :)

  6. Congratulations!! Can I ask something?? Did he schedule the medical and interview the same week or did it just work out that way? I would like to have my medical and interview the same week so I dont have to stay in London with my brother longer than need be. Should I email the embassy near the time to schedule and interview first then ring for the medical appointment?? or the other way round?? whats best?

    Lina (UKC)

ps I am still waiting for pack 3

He scheduled the medical for June 1st, sent off his checklist specifying that and they scheduled the interview for the day after. He didn't ask them to do this, just happened to work out that way. They won't give you an interview date until after you've at least BOOKED your medical. It worked out well for him, as he also doesn't live in London and had to book a flight. I think they try to be somewhat accomodating to people that they know will have to fly to get there.

Hope I explained that well, let me know if not. Best of luck! :)

  7. Well this is the post I've been waiting for - our final approval from the Embassy! My fiance flew into London on Thursday for his medical and his interview on Friday. Everything went really well, he seemed to give them everything they hoped for, and they told him that everything was approved on the administrative side. They said they will send out his Visa once they get the medical results in. We are hoping for those to come early this next week, and the Visa later on in the week. Wooo, finally some light at the end of the long tunnel! :D

And also, for those of you that haven't gone through the interview process at the London Embassy yet, I'll summarize what it was like for my fiance:

    • He arrived 40 minutes before his interview time, and had to wait in a queue outside.
    • Someone comes through the line, verifying everybody has their letter and everything.
    • Once inside, he went through a metal detector, had to leave behind his pocket PC because it wasn't allowed in (no computers of any type), and got a number and was sent to a waiting room.
    • Number was called, and he was shuffled to a British teller in a booth with a glass enclosure wanting to verify that he had all his necessary paperwork first. He did, and was told to go sit back down and wait to be called again.
    • Waits about an hour, and then number is called again. This time goes for his "interview." From the sounds of it on the various boards, we both expected he would go into an office and have a chat with somebody. It was not like that at all - another person in a glass booth. This time, an American woman.
    • She asked him how we met, and a couple other questions about us. It seemed at this point that they had already read over all of the information we'd sent in prior to this day and did find us "legit," so very little questions were asked and he never felt like he had to prove our relationship to her.
    • She said she was happy that we had everything in order, stamped "APPROVED" on the paperwork and told him the Visa would be sent to him once they got the medical results back.

So there you have it. Security seems pretty tight there right now, but everything seems to be as orderly as usual.

I'm off to do the "Happy Dance" some more, thanks so much to all of you for your support thus far! :D

  8. Hi guys. Currently in the middle of the second part of our K1 process at the London Embassy. I've been reading through the various posts and timelines trying to get an idea for when he's going to get his interview date from sending off the checklist and such, as he has to book a flight to London for it. Some of the timelines I come across have mention of receiving a "Packet 4," and some make no mention of it at all. Can somebody explain to me what exactly this is, and what is in it? As far as I'm aware, we've only received three packets and no mention has been made of another in the paperwork for Packet 3.

I am also curious as to how long it's taking the London Embassy to select interview dates from the time they receive the completed checklist. We are still holding onto ours as we wait for the police background check to show up from Belfast, but it seems as if the interview will be a month or more from now we may as well send it in. So those of you that have gone through the London Embassy, can you please give me a better guesstimation of when the interview might be?

    Thanks in advance! :)

  9. okay, thanks for the clarification.

now, can anyone tell me HOW to obtain a police certificate from a country of residence? it sounds like it's not required from every town lived in, only from the country (yes?). i have no idea where to start obtaining such a thing. are instructions posted on the consulate website and i just missed it?

    thank you!

Not entirely sure about Mexico, but I would assume it's the same....my fiance obtained his criminal background check/police record by going to his local police station and requesting one. They had him fill out a form, submit copies of his license and another id, submit a check for the fees, and are mailing it to his home. Your fiance should check with his local police office, they should be able to tell him what to do.

    Hope this helps! :)

  10. The I-134 asks for supporting evidence that is "applicable to your situation." Then goes on to state the appropriate documents as:

A.) Statement from an officer of the bank or other financial institution where you have deposits, giving the following details regarding your account:

    1. Date account opened;

    2. Total amount deposited for the past year;

    3. Present balance.

B.) Statement of your employer on business stationary.

You said you aren't working so I'm skipping this one, though it would likely need to be sent in if your co-sponsor works.

    C.) If self-employed... Skip

D.) List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s).

I don't see any mention of sending tax returns other than if you are self-employed, either. Does somebody else know otherwise?

SO, long story short, it would appear to me that you are giving them all that they are asking for. If I'm also missing something (I am currently in the same position you are right now), then I hope somebody else responds to correct us both.

    Best of luck!

  11. Hi again everyone.

I am currently working on gathering the necessary forms and filing out the I-134 - Affidavit of Support form for my fiance's embassy package/interview. Having a difficult time getting the statement from work, but that's another story altogether. :P I just got my bank statement and have everything there that they've asked for on the USCIS form. My question to those of you that have been through this part already before is this - if I don't make, say, $25,000 a year, will they still OK that portion of it? I mean, the two of us together are more than ample funds to make it without federal assistance, but I am concerned that my salary alone *may* not be enough to their standards. It's not terribly low, but it's not the highest, either. Just curious for some input in this area, thanks!

    :)

  12. I think you will be fine if you meet the requirements now - but I do not know how strict those guys in the Indian consulates are - you can line up a co-sponsor just in case (a friend is OK - all they need to meet is the 125% of support and they must be a US citizen.) They will need to fill out an I-134 also. No, they are just sponsoring her - not you! Good Luck

I'm currently filling out this form myself, but may I ask where you all are getting this "125% support" thing from? I don't recall reading anything like that, can you direct me towards it so I can figure out if I'm missing something? Thanks!

  13. Regarding Packet 3: It will contain:

DS-230, DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157 (only for males), I-134, and a checklist. A few notes on these. The checklist has explicit instructions regarding what to send back. For the DS-230, you only complete Part 1. For the DS-156, London requires you to fill out the electronic version (which will generate a pdf file with a barcode sheet. The barcode is important, because it saves them typing in all of your info.). You can find all of the 'DS' forms at this web page. When you click the link for the DS-156 you'll be taken to another page that has a link to the electronic version near the bottom of the page.

Unfortunately getting a lot of "page not found" error pages when I click on the links for the pdf files. Ah, the government - bless 'em. Hoping this is only temporary.

  14. Hello all. Long time reader, new member and poster. :) Figure I better start at the beginning.

I am a US citizen, my fiance is a UK National, and we filed for a K1 visa in October. The California Service Center had finally got around to our I-129F application in early January. Unfortunately, they sent a letter stating that they needed more evidence of us having met over the period we stated. We spent weeks gathering more "evidence" that we thought would be sufficient to them. We sent that on, and after much delay (see signature), they finally received it. As of a few days ago, we *finally* received our NOA2 -APPROVED! :D

So after months of waiting and more waiting, it finally appears as though the US part is nearing an end and we can start on Phase 2. My question to you all with past experience in this is what can we expect? I've read good things on here about the interviews at the London Embassy, but haven't really been able to find what to expect prior to that. We're curious about what exactly his first packet will have in it. Should he wait to get his police background check for awhile or would it be alright to have it ready? For those of you involved in UK cases, about how long can we expect to get from where we are now (NOA2) to final approval?

Any help/advice/advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for reading. :)
