  1. Hello! My husband got his green card approved when we entered the USA last December. Due to a list of reasons we did not move to the USA and my husband has not entered the USA since he got his green card in December of last year and left after our family visit in January. He has filed his i-407 and abandoned his green card. He has got a copy of the i-407 to travel with. We will also travel with other documents to prove he has no intent of staying in the USA and that we are only going to be there for a family visit. However, his previous ESTA has expired and we have to apply for a new one. They have recently changed the questions.

One of the questions now states:

Have you ever been issued a passport or national identity card for travel by any other country?

I assume that the green card issued by the USA to him is considered a national identity card? If so, he will obviously not lie and put the information in the fields correctly with the id number and expiration date. My question is, since he has abandoned this green card and it is in their system as abandoned (as an email from the Consulate in Frankfurt stated) and he fills this out, is this going to cause a denial in his ESTA? I did not realize the questions had changed and we have no time now to get a travel visa from the consulate so I am hoping that the ESTA will go through and not be a problem. (We have yet to apply for the ESTA because he has to get a new passport next week!)

    Thanks for any information.

  2. Yeah if you sent a copy of the certificate all they need is the original. I think mine is still a mistake since I sent the original and nowhere in NL can the gemeenta forward the police certificate for me to another address. We are going to get a new one. It is on the 'to do' list but my husband's interview is not until the end of July so we have plenty of time.

Good luck to your partners guys. :D

  3. Thanks! We are going to get a new one, just in case, but we think that this was a mistake since we sent the original. We can get one from the local court house within a few days. We are going to do it a bit closer to the interview date. But the instructions were not to get a new one but to have them send it to the Consulate, but they don't do that here in Holland. There is nowhere you can request they send it to somewhere other than your residence as far as I can see so it is strange and this makes me now think it is a mistake. We are going to get a new one anyway, just to cover our bases but it is still odd.

  4. Thank you! I will email them and ask. I had to email them concerning a reschedule of an appointment and they got back with me ASAP but I suppose that was more pressing than my question about this. We did get a VOG from our local court house. It was an official document and the thing we requested and sent with the packet we sent off some months ago to the NVC. Since it was a requirement to send with that packet I would have assumed if it was not the right document they would have sent it with our checklist to resubmit but we only had to refill in one of the support papers. So, I dunno. I will look into it and email them. I hope they get back with you soon and thank you for your answer. My husband's interview is not until next month and we are in no hurry (we are together in the Netherlands), but want to get it sorted ASAP. Thank you again and I hope your husband gets his visa ASAP! :)

  5. Hello!

My husband's case here in the Netherlands has been completed and an interview date has been set. I am a bit confused about something. Our checklist of documents states:

    Netherlands Police Certificate P

This is the instructions for the letter 'P' next to it:

    (P) You must request this police certificate from the issuing authority. After you submit your

request, the issuing authority will send the certificate directly to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate for your interview.

We already submitted our Police Certificate with our paperwork to the NVC. The letter clearly states if your Police Certificate is not more than a year old you do NOT need to bring a new copy to the interview with you. However, this states that we must request a new one?

My husband says that since we sent in the original police certificate that was issued November of 2014 (his interview is in July of this year) and it clearly states we do NOT need to bring a new one with us if it is under a year old that this is going to be fine but then when I read the letter and it has a 'P' next to the Netherlands Police Certificate, I am confused. Has anyone else had a P next to theirs and if so what did you do? Had you submitted one that was still under a year old and you did not have to request another?

    Thank you!
