  1. Thanks for this post.

I went to the DPS today with my EAD after just having received it last week. Filed both I-765 and I-485 at same time in November.

Everything seemed fine and then when the person tried the infamous SAVE verification, it didn't work.

It seemed like she saw my case was PENDING, and that was the bad thing. I tried explaining that it IS pending, that's the point, and hence why I have an EAD etc for the interim. Got the same answer as most, they're doing a manual check and wait for the mail 7-14 business days, blah blah.

I'm not sure now what number she was looking up in the system, whether it was my MSC number or A#... wish I thought to question and verify, maybe that was part of the issue. Now, it's hard to be positive with this, but from what you said, your husband had to wait for the letter and then all was well.

On his trip back after the letter, did that secondary verification magically make it work? Or was there still a bunch he had to do... This stuff is so confusing and really don't wanna hold this up too long. I want to be able to drive asap.

Thanks anyone for any help! Sorry if some of this was unclear.

  2. Hey guys,

So I have my interview at the Montreal consulate next Wednesday. Been reading as much as I could on the requirements and don't want to mess anything up... so have 2 questions:

#1) Wondering the best way to bring all my documents as bags etc aren't permitted... Put everything in a giant binder? A few envelopes? In our case the I134 the most recent tax year is a full return in itself (~60 pages! - no transcripts available yet) and combined with everything else it will be a hefty package!

Would be nice to know what others who have gone through this found the easiest/most acceptable way without getting into any trouble...

    Also, sorta tying into that...

#2) What EXACTLY needs to also be photocopied? I seem to recall reading about some people saying photocopy EVERYTHING, but that seems crazy/overkill/redundant (especially a full tax return!), and going by the official instructions here it seems to indicate only exactly what needs a copy (ex: passport bio page, birth cert, etc).

Am I safe to assume I only need copies of what it specifically asks for on the packet 4? You'd think but it seems a lot of this stuff you really have to dig to find out exactly how these guys want it... which is the only reason I ask! So this place is great as a lot of you guys have been through it first hand!

Thanks so much for all the help in advance!! Appreciate it.

  3. Hello,

Just a quick question - I have my consulate interview next month in Montreal and am being co-sponsored by my fiance's father, as she has not worked long enough nor has the financial means to sponsor me. Her father has all the requirements no problem, so does my fiance need to just fill out an I-134 and nothing else, or do they still want to see info from her regarding employment letters/bank statements, etc?

I'd think since the point of a co-sponsor is to basically take the place of that person, that they wouldn't need anything like that from her, but with the government and immigration you never know! Trying to be as prepared for this as possible! Thanks for all the help guys.

    Evan

  4. Hey guys,

So still waiting for packet 4 from the Montreal consulate, but trying to prepare everything the best I can right now... My fiance's father is going to be our co-sponsor, and has all his tax stuff, but he's telling me the last 3 years worth is amounting to over 200 pages! I think all we need are 1099 and W2 forms right? Which I think would only be a page or so? Not totally familiar with US tax documents so trying to get an idea here from people here who have gone through this!

Does he need to send me stacks of paper of his ENTIRE returns? Or a few select pages will suffice? Seems insane to need the whole packages... this will also be combined with employment letter and bank info. Thanks in advance for any help and sorry if the question is a bit confusing!

  5. Hi Nicole&Billy,

Came across your thread looking for some info here, hopefully you can be of help - not trying to derail this thread! So my case was sent from the NVC to the Montreal Consulate back at the end of March, and I haven't received packet 3 instructions yet, but have been told they're notoriously slow... but finally realized I don't even need to actually wait before starting the process! Dumb me. SO - my main question, the net keeps telling me for packet 3 I need to submit this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YPyYVB3A_-EHgO2k6X5WgKg5Jtb04pgRubg9SeiHNzI/edit

BUT - after finding packet 3 instructions on the consulate website: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf

it looks like maybe now all that's needed is DS-160, signed checklist, and passport scan??

I am so confused after seeing so many people talk about requiring DS-230s, DS-156/156K... did this recently change?

Thank you so much for any help and sorry for being so longwinded... they really don't seem to make this very clear!

  6. Hey guy,

First post here! So I'm in the (longer than expected) process of going through a K1 visa, and am at the point where my case was sent fro the NVC to the consulate in Montreal. I have been waiting for my packet 3 instructions for about a month and just found out I can actually do all that without receiving anything it in the mail... wish I knew that sooner! Anyways I am reading through the checklist of the things I'm required to have before I mail off packet 3, one thing being the police certificate...

I'm a little confused by this from everything I've been reading. Can this be done by any police force or must it be done by RCMP? And what's the easiest way? I am about to turn 27, and have lived in Montreal for about 25 years before coming to Toronto a year and a half ago.

Do I need just one certifcate (Toronto Police?) or also documentation from Montreal police since I spent majority of my life there? I also read that people have just gone to their local PD and did it within minutes (and it was able to confirm it checked all of Canada etc)...

Sorry to draw this out so long, but what is my best option here? Can I just go to any Toronto police station and get this document? Do I need to do at at an RCMP office? Anything special required from having lived in 2 cities?

Thanks for any help guys! All this stuff starts to make my head spin.
