  1. My family placed an add in the matrimonial site of a local paper in India where they are from, and this is how I met my fiancee. This is common custom in India, to meet someone this way, and it is not an IMB, but what proof do I need that this was simply a local paper. After gaining contact info. through the paper we chatted every day for 3 months before we met and decided to get engaged. What proof should I include? I'm having a difficult contacting the paper since it is in India.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  2. Well, I can't undo what's been done :-/. We simply followed the customs of Indian culture. I couldn't help but celebrate with pics so my friends in the US could celebrate with me. But the reality is we didn't get married! If I'm rejected for having a culturally normal engagement that looked like a wedding to the USCIS what are my other options?

  3. Thanks again all! I guess that means I shouldn't include the many photos of our formal engagement in front of numerous guests! That will definitely look, smell, taste, and everything else like a wedding. I spent a lot of time explaining to my friends that I didn't get married, but I don't know if I could convince USCIS!

  4. The key phrase is "almost" :)! It is custom in india to have 2 formal ceremonies. The first being an engagement. Most people who have Christian weddings, first have a formal engagement. We followed this custom, but I also wanted to have a wedding in America, that's why we didn't get married. That's also why the letter states a tentative date when we would like to marry on the letter.

  5. When I met my fiancee we had a formal engagement with 450 guests, pastors and family members present. The Church that oversaw our engagement drafted a letter that we intend to marry. It was signed by 2 pastors, 2 witness for each to-be bride and groom, as well as myself and my fiancee. Would this be sufficient as a letter stating our intention, or do we need to include something like that found in the VisaJourney document examples? Thanks!

  6. Hi,

Very new to this process. Hoping you all could help with some basic questions. Thanks in advance, and grateful to have people in the same process willing to help and share advice and insight.

    1. I am aware that I and my fiancee will each fill out a G-325a form. Will I, as the applicant, sign both copies, or does my fiancee sign his form? It asks for the signature of the applicant so I assume that is me. But I wanted to confirm.

    2. In MO I received a certified copy of my birth certificate and was planning to make a copy of the certified copy. I don't believe I can get my original birth certificate. Is this acceptable for the application? I know my certified copy has a raised seal, and I'm not sure how well this will copy.

    3. How do I find out where my application(s) will be processed, where I send my application, and how do I find out what consulate my fiancee will go to? Do all applications go to the Dallas lockbox and then are distributed? Can't figure this out :).

    4. It's not uncommon for Indians to have positive TB test due to immunizations. Is there anywhere I can go to find out what is an acceptable testing criteria, since TB is one of the tests completed during the medical exam?

I'm sure I'll be back soon with many more questions. Again, VERY grateful for your help!!!
