So happy for everyone getting approved.
I applied for the N400 and received the biometrics letter already, but no changes on my I-751. God, the wait for this just sucks
-
Hello Everyone. Just joining the thread now.
Sent the I-751 on 4/4/18. Received by them on 4/5/18. Still no NOA.
IF the NOA extends our GC in 1 year and processing is still in October 2016, what do we do after that?

hey guys, so I got my social right after i got married. It says "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION". I got my EAD in hand already.
Now im having A LOT of trouble getting a credit card and i think its because my social has that weird thing on it. I called the SS office and they said i need to have my perm rez card for about 10 days before i can come back in for ssc. I go to my new job tomorrow with paperwork including my ssc and Im worried they'll have a problem with it.
Any advice? Also those new to US, did you get a credit card? What kind?
I keep getting the same message when applying for a card that there is something wrong with my Social security number...
The SSN is the document Americans receive for employment, tax purposes, credit scores, etc. As we all know, we need one to get married too. Because you are not necessarily allowed to work if you married an American, the message on your SSN means that you can only work if you have authorization, which, in your case, is the EAD.
Since you have both your SSN and your EAD now you shouldn't face any problems.
About the credit card I am not quite sure yet, but it might be because you haven't stablished credit here yet.

We filled for my K1 by the very end of April (04/29/15) and with a RFE in the middle of all that, we still managed to get it approved by October 6th.
The way I see it, you either get married in Germany or get a fiancee Visa. Any other way to do it would be fraud and that is precisely what the United States doesn't want. You'd be pretty much stating that you are coming to visit your fiancee, when your actual intent is to get married.
And the point is, if you want to live here and have no trouble, best thing is to do everything by the book. Why would you want to risk getting everything done legally? What if they refuse your AOS/CR-1 based on that?
On the other hand (and I would really like to read mimolicious insight on this, since he/she always posts very useful stuff), as I was talking to a friend who works in an immigration office, she said that getting the K1 is a waste of money and time, and that many people come here on a tourist visa and wait until it's very end to get married. Apparently it works just fine for AOS.
If you ask me, it is a greater waste of time to be here doing nothing for 6 months, to get married and have to wait another 90 or so days to be able to work, but that is just my opinion.
-
This one keeps happening when airlines are shoddy with their data transmission and do not update passenger lists. You need to fix this ASAP, otherwise USCIS might continue your AOS as abandoned. Do you have written proof you cancelled the flight? Send that. A couple affidavits of people stating you haven't left the country also help.
That's exactly why I used a one-way to enter, as I read horror stories about that one.
Ugh. I hate how any/every logic we use always fails us at some point. When I was doing that annoying immigration part at the airport, the officer asked if I had ways to go back home if after the 90 days I decided not to get married. And that worked back then, specially because they were all really rude saying I didn't know the culture and I wasn't ready for the United States. They actually said goodbye by saying "Well, you have 90 days to runaway" or some bs like that.
You really think that could affect my AOS even if it was on my AP?
Well, I am getting everything ready either way and will send as soon as possible.
About the affidavits, you think I'd need to get them notarized?
Thank you for your help, TabeaK

Did you fly here with a round-trip ticket?
I did, but I cancelled it before the flight. And there is nothing on my I-94.
I am thinking on sending some debit card transactions after my biometrics appointment, and the I-94. Should that be enough? ><
-
Hello everyone! I just received my AED card yesterday on the mail... And an RFE for my AP lol
I was wondering if anyone can help me. This RFE said that USCIS records indicate I have departed prior to the approval. Apparently I was not aware that when you put an Intended Departure Date, USCIS understand you will do it even without an AP.
Anyhow, I thought of writing a letter explaining that I did not leave the US and use my I-94 as proof. Is there any other ways of proving it? Any suggestions?

Hi.
I had my road test today at DMV. I passef, however she asked me for immigration papers. She did not accept my visa since it is expired - k1. So I handed in my EAD card which was issued 03/30/16 so it has been almost two weeks. However, the system did noy veryfy it and she could not issue me driving license. She said she needs to send it over and as soon as i am verified in SAVE database they will issue document. Does anyone has any insight on this? If the ead card was issued by goverment how come it is not in the system? Anyone has idea how long it may take?? Thanks
Hello noini89!
Unfortunately it is normal. I tried getting my DL before my visa was expired and I had the same outcome. They could not verify my status in the system, even though I was under an unexpired visa and already had the NOA for my AOS. The lady at DMV said it would take up to a week for them to mail me a letter confirming my status. It took about three weeks, but it all worked out and next time I came back I was able to take my road test - I think it works differently here in Texas.

I am so happy for everyone having their EAD and/or Green Card approved, or even interview scheduled. It really helps everyone to keep their hopes up!
Thank you for that, you guys. It is great to open this topic and see great news everyday

YAY! I am so happy for everyone with their GC and EAD approved. Congrats everyone

Speaking from experience, there is not much to do about the missing home/comfort foods/being in a different place than what you are used to.
Things I used to do when I wasn't used to the US yet: learn new recipes; learn new languages (I am currently using babbel.com which is like Rosetta Stone but cheaper); look for information on registering the marriage in my country; look for information on documents I need here (Driver's License, DEERS - if you are military); work on some DIY; binge-watch my favorite Netflix shows. To get out of the house and do some significant stuff, the best suggestion would be volunteering.
I could also suggest, depending on your wife and your city's public transportations, that she visit some nice places in town. Here in San Antonio I find it very hard to move around by bus, but I have done it as an exchange student and, although it takes much longer than usual, it can get you to cool places and show some parts of the city you haven't seen. Differently from what most people told me, public transportation is safe, and I have taken it as late as 11pm - I must add that I am a scaredy-cat, and I wasn't afraid of it.
If I may also add, the homesickness and little sadness is kind of normal at first. Trust me, I had been here several times before actually getting married, one of which, as mentioned before, to study for a whole semester. It is bittersweet to leave your country behind for something that one knows will likely be for the rest of their lives. Support and care for her feelings. Understanding is key!
Hope I helped a little bit

Oi pessoal!!!

I just received a text update that a 'Request for Initial Evidence' has been mailed. Any idea how long it takes for RFE to actually reach by mail? Also, do you guys know if I can call USCIS to know what the RFIE is about?
I am traveling for the next 10 days and am worried that this will complicate matters of a timely response from my end.
It is one of those things that can take a long time or no time at all. I received my letter a day after they changed my status on USCIS.

For K-1 VISA
I would like to share my RFIE: (Mail Received 09 FEB 2016)
1.) The "Sponsor's Household Size" on the petitioner/sponsor's Form I-864, Affidavit of Support (revision date 07/02/2015) was calculated incorrectly or not completed. A household size of 0 or 1 is not acceptable. - The petitioner sponsor must correct and or complete and return page 4 of Form I-864.
2.) The petitioner/sponsor on Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, must submit a complete Federal Income tax return submitted to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the most recent tax return submitted to the IRS for the most recent tax year.
I sent the following: (On 12 FEB 2016)
- RFE Letter
- Corrected Page 4 of I-864
- Copy of Verification of Employment
- 2015 - Form W-2 Wage & Tax Statement and 1040A Income Tax Return
- 2014 - Form W-2 Wage & Tax Statement and 1040 Income Tax Return
- 12 months of Bank Statement (Printed from account online)
- 6 months of Pay Statement
After 3 weeks (06 MAR 2016), my case is now scheduled for an Interview on 06APR2016. (I had my Biometrics 01FEB2016)
Now, I am just wondering when I will get my EAD Combo Card, so I could start applying for jobs.
OMG!! AWESOME! That was sort of quick, wasn't it?
Congratulations! Maybe you'll get your Green Card even before you get your Combo Card. I am so happy for you

Apologise for the missing post due to using my phone at the moment. I need some urgent advices on health insurance during aos process.
I have received my ead and ap and will be going for interview in march very soon.
My husband submitted insurance application since december to include my name into employer's insurance. However they kept dragging for months and told us it takes awhile to process. Today we tried asking again and they gave him excuse that they are unable to include his spouse (me) in the policy because he has not work for one full year! Which is totally absurb and ridiculous, he will be one full year employee on june 2016.
Now I need to ask you guys for advices. What are the choices can I opt for since obamacare is over and I really dont want any problems during interview. Should I get 180 days health insurance or would it be better if I get an indivudal now with my ead and ap and noa?
Thanks alot
Don't worry. I was just trying to understand the situation.
I am not really sure on what to answer you, though. It was pretty easy for me because my husband doesn't have it through his job. But it is absurd since he'll have to pay for you either way, even if it is cheaper than normal insurance, right? I wonder if it would work calling the insurance company directly or not..
I guess it is just a matter of you analyzing your options and see what works best for you financially and insurance wise. If I were you I'd get something temporary and then join under your husband's policy.
But those are just... Things I am saying. I haven't faced the same problem. Sorry. Tried to help :/
-
People usually tell you to take the whole I-129F and supporting documents to the interview, including pictures. The CO didn't ask for it in my case, though.
The main thing is to send her the Affidavit of Support and supporting documents, because that is not submitted until the interview.
-
What's your doubt?
-
Great News! I got email and On March 4, 2016, we scheduled you for your interview and mailed you an interview notice for Receipt Number MSCXXXXXX.
Package delivered: 01/04/2016
Bio-metrics appointment : 02/04/2016
YAAAAAY dosmode! Congratulations. And I just saw you live in the valley! Haha
I am happy for you
ps: on second note, do K1 take longer than the rest of the adjusting status?
-
He needs to return to England to finish the K1 process there
Just for the medical and interview, though.
-
I am sorry to hear that, guys :/
I am going a little off topic here for anyone who might be interested. I got my Driver's License today here in Texas (after the K1, while adjusting status to be exact) and it'll only expire in 10/2017
The only issue I faced was that first time I walked in the DPS they sent me home without taking the road test because my status needed to be verified.
-
Just keeping you guys posted on what happen. So my "RIE" said:
"The "Sponsor's Household Size" on the petitioner/sponsor's Form I-864, Affidavit of Support (revision date 07/02/2015), was calculated incorrectly or not completed. A household size of 0 or 1 is not acceptable."
I don't know how, since I verified the documents, but since it was my husband who filled those out there might be something that slipped by me.
Either way, I hadn't called USCIS until today and I congratulate all of you who deal with Tier 1s. I tried to confirm if the mistake was on the sponsor or co-sponsor's I-864 and I couldn't' get anything that I didn't already know. Very useless.
I am thinking it was the sponsor. Do any of you think that I have reasons to worry about which affidavit they referred to?
Thank you -
Thank you for the responses, everyone. Means a lot.
I'll keep you guys posted. They sent it on the 25th, apparently. Hopefully it'll get here soon.

So, I just checked my case status and I got a "Request for Initial Evidence". Feeling kinda bummed right now. Is that any different than the Requests For Evidence or it just means we screwed up sooner in the process? Haha

Thanks, SCCH. So this will either be great or.. neutral? Haha! Although I live so far from my USCIS Office that only thinking about going there to get an extension and then for the interview makes me cringe.
I'll just keep my fingers crossed, I guess 😂
