  1. This also happened to my husband, embassy said he was not on list dispite him having his interview letter. Then they said his package never areived from NVC so they need to reschedule and gave him a phone # to call and took his phone # and email!!! Im so sorry I know how depressing it can feel.

What we did was called NVC and had them trace his package to ensure Embassy recieved it. We then both wrote emails to embassy inquiring if there is anything more we can do to help speed up the process as we kept an exact copy of everything sent incase of lost in transit. My husband also called back the phone # provided to him at the embassy inquiring on any updates. His calls were responded with the normal just please check your email for a rescheduled interview.

My NVC trace request was never followed up by a supervisor as promised so I felt they were unhelpful... We never heard from NVC again! However I would like to think making them aware embassy claims to not have our package did help in some small way even though they never followed up with us. But finally it was the second email to Embassy that was replied within a week with a rescheduled interview date that was exactly 21 days from his initial scheduled interview.

So my advice is to email and call both NVC and embassy. Try to confirm date your package was sent and ask for a trace if embassy is claiming they dont have it. Good luck and hopefully you will be notified in a week with a new date as we were!

  2. SSN should not be required to be added to health insurance and as a general rule many persons have been added to insurance without disclosing or having one. It's not their business to know.

I am in same boat... As per my HR dept ssn is not needed to add but they will drop and roll to cobra if the ssn is provided by 3/31! Im just hoping it arrives as everthing is pending jobs, medical insurance, tax filing!!?

  3. Such a long wait for something that you can't live without in the US. :( Did you get the SSN yet?

It hasn't been two weeks yet but we did try going to the ss office on last Friday only to be turned away by the rep. She claims we need to wait 21 days before coming in bc immigration should be issuing the ss #. I tried to inquire whether she would tell me the same thing if I had said I did not tick yes that I want them to send me the ss card by mail.. But all she did was talk over me and my question saying why would I do that! I decided to let it be bc I was enjoying the few days off I had to be with my husband and didn't want to waste another minute of my time at the office since it seemed it would be a battle to get them to just process his application.

  4. Congrats! :dancing::dancing::dancing: I Hope you find a decent flight. Lord knows I didn't...smh...lol, but it was decent in terms of some of the other prices I saw out there at the time.

Thank you... I know exactly what you mean! Since I dont know how soon I will see Nigeria again, I was deciding btw flying out to stay with him For a few and fly back with him or let him brave his first 12-13 hr flight alone! In the end we decided he should come since we need his ss card to file taxes. Booked a flight with dreaded Arik. He was adamant on a direct flight so although I have my reservations about that Airline after one terrible flight with them, he was ok giving it a try and the price was reasonable for booking so late.

  5. How soon after my husband arrives should we expect his social security card? He is due to arrive on Feb 27 and on his ds260 we did indicate the address to send the card.

Have they been consistent in send the cards soon after and how soon can we expect it? Would it be proactive to go to the social security office to apply for one and how soon can we go? I am actually waiting to file taxes until he has it in hand so we can file jointly but I dont want to be waiting idly. All advice and experience welcomed!

  6. So happy to report that my husband picked up his visa today... We are now shopping flights so he can be here asap!

There is a full update on my timeline and a review of the interview on Embassy review page!! All praise and glory to God! He sent this man into my life and perfected this entire process for us!

Thank you to all the wonderful VJ members that encouraged me and shared their stories and knowledge. Dwheels76, dear you will allways be remembered!

  7. It seem you did not take the time to really get to know your wife! Her not being able to conceive must obviously be an issue for you. Did you know before you married that she could no longer have children? That is most definitely a conversation you have before marriage. And abuse can be believed if it is documented and proven. What have you been doing each time these abuses happen? Have you been seen by a doctor for any medical care, have you discussed abuse with maybe her family, any neighbors have heard arguments, or maybe church members or leaders you have confiding in about your abuse, have the police ever been notified? You have to do more than complain. As a priority, you have to get out if you are seriously being abused!

  8. I dont think OP means "luckily" to have gotten married to immigrate. I believe this is a case of miscommunication due to language barrier. I understood it as they may have had issue of domestic violence which he felt were possibly isolated and forgiven so luckily love prevailed and they married. Only for him to realize she is not remorseful and is a true abuser! Lets not be so quick to question motives bc love is experienced differently by many. I have been in what I thought was love and so blind when others have clearly seen the disaster waiting to happen. Also I would assume it would be harder for a man to come to grasps that he is being physically abused by a woman.

In any case, I choose to believe noone would endure risk of possible death for uncertainty in a foreign country knowningly. Who knows what life he left behind with far and few opportunities as it is in his home country, why should he go home to maybe nothing if he can prove he had good intentions and married for love only to be abused by someone he trusted. Not everyone has family and friends to help one bounce back.

OP get as much knowledge as you can and be prepared and get away from that mad woman!!! Good luck and God bless!

  9. ***I did post this question in comment section of another post but thought I might get more responses if I created my own topic***

Hello all, I am back again with good news! After the fiasco of our file not being at Lagos embassy for my husband's previously scheduled interview Jan. 21, we have both sent emails to embassy and I requested NVC track the package.

Albeit no response yet from NVC in regards to their investigation which was escalated to a supervisor, Lagos Embassy has finally replied to our emails with confirmation that our file is with them. My husband has been rescheduled for an interview Feb. 11 at 7am!!!

I am grateful!!! But here is my question. We were told they only schedule Immigrant Visa interviews Thursdays and Fridays. Can we reasonable request an earlier interview since the error is on them? I would like my husband seen tomorrow or this Friday.

Has anyone been successful in a request to reschedule interview at this short notice? And what where the reasons you used for the request. My reasons are as simple as you messed up and I want to have my husband home asap especially for our first Valentine's Day together as husband and wife, since we have missed so many other meaningful holidays together. Do we have a shot at all?

  11. I am so sorry for what is happening to you! Lagos embassy is disappointing me majorly today! It is all too depressing. From what I have heard they would have asked for the beneficiary to sign in by some method so they can review the account, but I would have assumed they would ask that during interview. Maybe they want to see more proof of communication. So send as much as you can to show there is constant communication with you and spouse! Good luck and I pray for us all!

  12. My husband went for his scheduled interview today and was told that his package was never received from NVC! They confirmed his phone number and email and stated they will call him once they are ready to interview.

I am beside myself bc on the ceac site it confirmed that the status was ready. I called NVC and they stated that the package was sent on the 11th and they will track it and email us with any updates as to when or if it was received!

I am just not satisfied with this. Is there anything more I should be doing? I just dont want this to go into an unknown prolonged period of waiting for the unknown! Is this a common thing and also how soon can we reasonable see a resolution and reschedule of interview?

  13. In regards to PCC, I sent the photocopy of all pages with the photo attached! So i had the top page showing no record and my husband's info and photo, 2nd page with fingerprints, and 3rd page the stamp from Nigerian Police certifying no trace of criminal record. For the Birth certificate I sent both Certified copy of BC and a copy of Attestation of Birth records. I had no issues at NVC!

  14. OMG! OMG! I'm so happy right now!!! I didn't think it would be possible, but guess I got really lucky!!!

Yesterday, I sent an email to the embassy, requesting a reschedule of my interview to an earlier date! I just told them that this distance between my husband and I has been taking its toll on us and that I really miss him. Also, that I'm eager to start a normal life, as husband and wife!

They called me today!!! They re-scheduled my interview for the 28th of December!!! The lady was so nice :D She asked me why I want to do my interview earlier, do I have already my flight tickets or something? And I told her it's not that, i wouldn't risk paying thousands of euros before having my visa in hand. The only reason is that I really miss my husband and I want to be with him as soon as possible. And she giggled and told me okay, we'll reschedule you for December 28th, at 1 PM.

I'm so happy!!! I can't wait for hubby to wake up so I can give him the news! (He doesn't know about the email that I sent).

This is amazing... Congratulations!!! I have to try this! Did you have to wait for confirmation that the file was at embassy to email your request?

  15. Congrats dear ... What's ur visa category ?

My cc 20/11 no interview yet :(

Thanks! Category is CR 1 for my husband! Hang in there... Your time will come. I can tell you I called every two days! Not sure if that helped but It made me feel better. And its so ironic that hubby and I were resolved to expect an interview for February. Than today we just got caught up in discussing our plans for his first week in NYC only to be met with the most pleasant surprise! It was like 1 am his time and I called him over 15x to wake him due to my excitement! Lol
