NP, I really appreciate any input on this and I live nearby to pretty much all governmental institutions here. Plus I was curious wether it could be done as I was reading up on the SSA website and the info could be interpreted both ways. In any case, I went to the courthouse on Friday and got 2 copies for the name change. Of course, I also received my documents from passport application the next day. So come Monday I am doing SSA attempt #2.
Kind of a related question and is more MA specific, but when should I go to RMV to update my driver's license? It says that if the name has been updated with SSA, I don't need any additional proof (probably wouldn't hurt to bring it anyway just in case), but when does SSA actually update it? During my visit? Or someone approves and updates it afterwards? Should I not bother and wait till I have the actual card on me?

yes it is . congratulations on your naturalization.
your passport is more than enough.
I went to SSA and sadly turns out it is enough for status change, but not for name change, as that requires the original form stapled to the Certificate of Naturalization.

I had my citizenship oath 2 weeks ago and have already received my passport last Wednesday. I would like to update SS with my new status and legal name, but after applying for passport I have not yet received back my certificate of naturalization. Is my new passport enough evidence for SS to update my status and name, or should I wait until I get my certificate of naturalization (and name change form) back?
Thanks!

I had the interview in Boston, MA on 04/08 and was approved. I received the Naturalization Interview Results form with Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval checked. But my online status has not yet been changed (i.e., still interview has been scheduled) and I have not received the oath letter. Is that normal? Should I call USCIS or wait for the oath letter?

I went to SSA Monday morning and updated my name and status. I asked the question about RMV and they said that data is typically updated within 24 hours and I should be ok after that. I went to RMV today (Tuesday) and was able to update my driver's license. I had my name change certificate with me and they scanned it along with the form, not sure if it was necessary, they didn't explicitly ask for it.
Boston RMV is pretty terrible as far as waiting times, I was there 30 min before opening and was done in 30 min after they opened. There were at least 2 times the number of people behind me at 9am.
Thank you to everyone for the advise, you were very helpful!
