  1. hi everyone

First let me thank all of u, for sharing information and helping out in every aspect of this process.

Had interview at Newark, NJ, in the morning at 8am.

    She asked us few questions:

    1. where did we meet?

    2. which part of london is the best?

    3. how has relationship being since my wife has been in the US?

    4. any photos, she went through most and took few

    5. any documents which we would like to submit, my wife said utility bills, anything, and she said oh" i dont want those", she wanted anything besides, so my wife gave away the car insurance, her college schedule, copy of license( driving license). and thats about it.

She was happy with everything and kept talking about how she was learning chinese, etc and she would like to go back to college etc. Wants to learn all that... But overall it was cool experience. She also said that the FBI check was also done and everything was fine, congratulated both of us. and thats about it.

Yippeee! finally its over for atlEAST next 2 yrs. whooo.......

Good luck to everyone and may all of u succeed.

  2. hi

today my wife had been to the Social security office, as she has received her EAD with the married name and wanted it to be changed on the Social security card. The lady at the counter takes all the oiriginals to verify and gives it back to me and says, as there database isnt updated it will take 10 weeks for them to do a verification.

What i dont understand is if my wife already had a social secuirty card, and just wanted surname to be chnaged, why did it not show on there database. Why would it still take them 10weeks for processing.

    Any clues, help..... bit confusing.

When she asked about withdrawing the application so that it can done when the databse was updated, the  lady refused to do so.

Not very helpful in explaining about the details, never mind! But please if anyone had the same experience willing to throw some light.

  3. Hi all.

Ive been in the USA for a week, and would like to get medical insurance, drivers licence etc.

I know i need to apply for a SSN, what do i need to do this and how do i go about it.

Do they process it on the same day or is there a wait?

    Thank you.

    Mel

It takes a while to get the SSN after you apply.

Not necessarily. If the office can verify your status while you are in the office you should have the card within 2 weeks, but can go back to the office the next day to obtain the number.

We went to SSN office 2 weeks after my wife arrived, and they said that the database wasnt updated. The lady at counter gave us a choice to do a manual verification which takes 8 to 10weeks, but we said we would come back at a later date. The second time we were asked to see the passport with the I-94 and the database was updated and she said the SSN will come in the post which it did in less than a week.

About driving license, individual state got there own rules. Best way to find out to approach the Motor vehicle office.

  4. I know that many have said it's the RED number on the Visa, but just as many have said it's the control number. One visa thread said the red number is pre-printed on the visa and has nothing to do with the NI visa number. Further more they stated the old visa's use to have the correct identification printed on it under the number but was taken off. It was under the control number. Another attorney disagrees with this assesment. On this board it's no different. One thing I can say it's a joke. any suggestions.?

Red colour number on the visa is the non immigrant number and the one which says A######### is your alien registration or it would say A#. :star:

  5. Is there any acredidation for these services???

By this I mean will all colleges/universities/employers in the US accept the translated credentials from WES as readily as they will from another service????

The reason I am asking is when (very long time from now) my fiance gets here I would like her to have as many options as possible so we will need to get her university experience translated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Paul/Anna

    hi there

Only few states in america would accept credits being evaluted from WES. Depending on what the need is really, I am a physical therapist, so i have to get my credits evaluated from independent agencies like the FCCPT or CGFNS.

the reason i got my credits evaluated from WES was to enroll in a college coz i need to get some extra credits done in order to practise my profession here. Every state has there own requirements. It doesnt matter if i have worked in the UK. I still got to do it. but the best thing is to find out from WES itself who will be able to give u better answer, www.wes.org

Also another thing to find out if there r colleges, universities in ur area if they accept WES evaluation.

The college i got enrolled gave me the information and yes they r cheap compared to others. hope this answers ur question.

  6. Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone here had used the World Education Service (www.wes.org) to evaulate their foreign education credentials and get them "translated" into US Equivalents? I'm strongly considering doing it as they seem a LOT cheaper than other Credential Evaluators...if anyone has any suggestions or comments they would be more than welcome!

    HI there

i have used the WES, they r quick provided u got all ur documents sorted out. I was trained in India so my documents had to arrive from there but it didnt take too long. Once they had all the neccessary documents it was done in 7 days which is what i had asked for. But they have faster services as well.

Another thing WES is quic  ker, cheaper if ur going to enroll into a college.

  7. Following are examples of secondary evidence of birth (which should also include your name, date and place of birth; names of both parents; and the seal of the issuing office): a baptismal certificate, an adoption decree, a school record, a notarized affidavit from a close relative (a parent, a close relative, a neighbor or friend who was present at the time of your birth) on the appropriate stamp paper which must be sworn before a First Class Magistrate. The person making this affidavit must state how he/she knows your family and how he/she knows the facts of your birth.

For the high school certificate, make a copy of the original and take it to a notary to get it signed. Most banks offer notary services.

  8. I'm not familiar with the process but this is what I read. Your web application confirmation receipt or I-797 NOA(paper receipt) should have instructions on whether you need to schedule an appointment or whether USCIS will send you a notice to schedule an appointment.

  9. the last updated date changes everytime your application is picked up for processing. But the status dosen't change. This is normal.

"* Note on "Last Updated" date:

Your case may have a new "Last Updated" date and you may receive an Email Notification of your case being updated, without the status of the case changing. This is due to internal USCIS processing being performed on your Case. This will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date, but may not result in a different status message."

  10. They never stapled it on my passport, there is only the stamp. We read what Yodrak said and we printed the I-102 form but they will ask us $160, should we pay anyway?

You do need the I-94 as evidence of status when filing for the I-485. If you don't, you risk getting an RFE.

You don't have to pay the fee amount only if there are errors on your I-94 made by the USCIS through no fault of your own or if you served in the US armed forces. In your case, you probably have to pay the fee amount.

Also, you can use a copy of the stamp on your passport as evidence of admission when submitting the I-102.

Take into consideration the below instructions from I-102 when applying.

"Not Issued I-94/Extension - Status Change. If youwere not issued a Form I-94 at admission or are filing thisapplication with an application for extension of stay or changeof status, file this application where you are filing theaccompanying extension of stay or change of statusapplication."

  11. If the ITIN number doesn't work as a SSN, do we have to wait 2 weeks after the marriage to get his SSN and then file the I485? He is coming literally right before the wedding.

You generally have to wait for two weeks after coming into the country to get an SSN, their system takes that long to get updated with your arrival info.

You do not require a SSN to file for AOS. You just wait till you get the marriage certificate.
