  1. Thank you both!!! :) I searched for the answer in previous threads but all the results were old, so I just wanted to be sure. We'd both be basket cases if he ended up having to miss the interview because he didn't have something he needed-- or had something with him that wasn't allowed. You feel like you've got a handle on it but there's always that little uncertainty. I know you guys know what I mean!!!

  2. I'm a student and have no income at all. How does that change your recommendation? Specifically, I'm wondering if I check the box that says I do not intend to make contributions to the support of my fiance' will that be a problem? We have a sponsor that meets the eligibility requirements as far as annual salary. His I-134 says he DOES intend to make specific contributions, so will that be okay?

  3. By the way, as a P.S., we know it's a bad idea to have done all the deposits and plans and such NOW. But when we got engaged, we were clueless. He read online somewhere that it was a 4 month process to get a K-1. And whatever site he found that on made the process out to be very straightforward and no big deal. Based on that, we went ahead and booked the venue and dates, paid deposits, yadda yadda... before we even started the visa process. We had no idea how dumb that was. Hopefully it will all work out in spite of that mistake!

  4. Hmmm. Okay. Thanks everyone for the input!

He'll be interviewing in Vancouver, not Montreal, but it should be relatively similar, right? He's really nervous about what to say and what not to say at the interview-- he's afraid to mess things up! So he wanted me to ask and get everyone's advice before just going against the recommendations.

I guess he can just stick to talking about our generic plans for the wedding, and I won't send him any of the other stuff I mentioned.

  5. For proof of ongoing relationship, specifically for purposes of the interview, is it okay for my fiance' to take our wedding invitation? And/or maybe the contract for our wedding venue? Receipt/contract for my (hideously expensive-- thanks, Grandma!) wedding dress, where it specifically states that the cost is non-refundable?

His interview is 9/29/15. The wedding is planned for 12/27/15. I know the suggested answer to "When are you getting married?" is "Whenever Uncle Sam says we can." But I'm wondering about breaking that rule and would like some advice because I'm concerned about otherwise not having enough proof for them.

We don't have regular phone conversations and seldom send each other emails, because we typically just talk on Skype or through internal comms channels on the games we play together online. And he hasn't been here for a visit since January of this year, so the only photos we have are the ones we submitted with the original application. No engagement ring receipt (I know that's not mandatory but feel like it would help in our case!) because he wants to wait until he's here so we can go together to pick it out.

So I have chat logs, but that's about it. I worry that it won't be enough without the wedding stuff to back it up!

  6. THANK YOU!!!!!! Sorry to shout but wow. I was panicking again for a minute there. Whew!!! Seriously... thank you so much for the reassurance! As I'm sure you know, it means the world!!!

  7. So we called NVC and were so relieved to hear that our file has already been sent to Vancouver. And the file number starts with VAC, so you'd think that would be trustworthy. BUT when I checked just now on the CEAC website (trying to look for info to update our timeline), it says "Your case is ready for you to schedule an interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal."

    WTH?!? Montreal?!?!!!

Fiance' couldn't get through to the US Consulate in Vancouver today on the phone (more voicemail hell), so we have no idea if it's really there. He's emailed them with the case number and asked for Packet 3. Supposedly they respond within a couple of business days.

But in the meantime, is this something we should be worried about? Has anyone else had the wrong consulate show up on the CEAC results? I'm just hoping NVC hasn't bungled and sent our file to Montreal now instead of Vancouver!

It says READY, by the way, with a status update of today. Case creation date of 26 June but that's the only other info. No clue how to update our timeline for when received by NVC, when it left there, nor when Vancouver (or Montreal!) may have received it. Sigh. It has not been a smooth experience with NVC!

  8. Good news for us too! I finally got through to NVC at 11:30 a.m. this morning-- not the recommended times, I tried those with zero results for hours spent dialing and re-dialing. Nope, at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time, it was magically, unbelievably easy. Took 2 whole tries and I was on hold for <30 minutes. And they've already sent our file to Vancouver!!! I was so stunned and relieved that I forgot to ask for dates for the timeline! Fiance' is calling right now to try to get them to email the checklist so he can set up his interview. :):):)

  9. It worked!!! Thank you so much for all the helpful advice. I finally got through today (after trying late night hours last night and getting nowhere; go figure)! And the best part is that our case has already gone to Vancouver!!!!!! I was so excited and stunned and relieved that I forgot to ask WHEN it was received by NVC, when it went to Vancouver, etc. Josh is on the phone right now, trying to reach them before they stop taking calls today at 12:30 their time. Hoping to give them an email addy and get the checklist sent as an email, so he can turn it right back around and get the go-ahead to schedule his interview. SO HAPPY!!!!

  10. Thanks so much for your responses I think I know what I'm doing now. My fiance and I disagreed on the definition of 'met'. I thought it meant the circumstances around which we began our relationship and he figured it meant the circumstances around which we met in person (I guess for some people they would be the same. From your responses it sounds like I was right. I'll just write how we met online and attach all the documents discussed above.

    Thanks again!

We just recently got an RFE because I said we met online but didn't specify where. The RFE seemed to indicate that saying "we met online" without giving them the details and the URL causes them to think that maybe you used an international marriage broker and are trying to hide it.

So do tell them where you met online, and give them the URL. I've read posts from people that don't want to do that, for whatever reason, and I get that it's definitely squirm-worthy for some folks and/or feels like an unnecessary invasion of privacy. But personally I'd much rather give them the info and NOT get an RFE, than withhold it and potentially deal with a delay.

    Good luck!

  11. Oh my God, you are so lucky!! According to USCIS they got our RFE 5/28 and we are still waiting for NOA2...:-(

Maybe it went quickly because I spammed them with info? :) I sent a 2 page letter with the URL of the site where we met, and all the other sites where we hung out together. Plus how the relationship developed before we met in person, and then more info on both face-to-face visits and how we got engaged. And then to top it all off, I sent them photocopies of ALL the pages in his passport, because we had not sent them all pages before-- we sent just the pages that had been stamped. That was an oversight, and I just wanted to head off any potential problems from that!

  12. No experience with your first question but my gut answer would be give them the info about why you don't have the passport stamps to show.

We DO have experience with your second question, and we got an RFE because we did not provide that at first. You definitely need to tell them the name (provide the URL) of the site where you met. I'm sure they've seen it all so I wouldn't worry about it. :)
