  1. Congrats!

Can you please share your experience with us? And do they still do stamps on the passport?

They did not stamp the passport. The questions were incredibly straightforward: is this your first marriage? Can i see lease, banking, insurance documents? They took both of our passports and driver'a licenses to take down. It was 1000X smoother of a process than I had ever anticipated.

  2. Hello All! My wife is having her AOS interview in a week (YAY!) and I am helping to compile all of the final documentation. The only problem that I am having is that it states copies and originals of all documentation submitted. However, my parents (co-sponsors on Affidavit of support) are not comfortable sending their birth certificates to us. Would we be able to use copies of their birth certificates (we used them in the original paperwork) or do we need originals of them as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  4. Hey we have the same field office:)

no dont be worried. I found today out that uscis has some problems and thats why so many numbers dont work currently. An other reason could be that they are currently doing a background check and didnt put it in the system yet. According to the website, if it doesnt work 45 days after you the email you can call and they try to fix it for you :)

    mine doesnt work either :/

Awesome! Thank you for the information! My wife actually has her bio appointment the day after you on the 8th. I wasn't too terribly worried since we are still getting letters (NOA and bio appt.) but I just wanted to see if anyone else was having a similar problem.

  5. Hello everyone! My wife and I are about to send off her AOS package but have one final question in regards to I-864. My mother is the joint sponsor as I do not meet the 125% income requirement. She files joint taxes with my father so their 1040s are together.

    My questions are:

Can I include my mother's W-2s from the previous 3 years along with an employment letter to show the separation of their earnings? OR

Does my father need to fill out I-864A along with all of the same supporting documents?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

  6. Hello everyone! My fiancee is moving to the United States this Saturday and I have some questions about health insurance. There will be about a month between her moving and us being married, so what should she do during this time period? Also, I am still on my parents health insurance until my employer coverage kicks in in mid-August. So my question is, what should I do for health insurance for her for the 1.5 months prior to my insurance being able to cover her? She is coming from Canada, could OHIP temporarily cover her? I understand not having US health insurance will result in a fee on my taxes but I just would like to know what to do for the very temporary basis.

    Thanks!

  7. I agree with the post above. My husband moved here 9/23/15 and we filed Married/Jointly for the 2015 tax period. We had our tax accountant prepare a statement that we were claiming him as a resident alien for the 2015 Tax Year.

If you file yourself online, that might be difficult to do, as I am not sure the software companies allow for that specific letter. I always use an accountant, so they were able to attach to my return.

    Good Luck!

Did you have to claim all of their income from Mexico on your 2015 taxes? If so, does that drastically change the expected return?

  8. Hello! My wife is coming to the US in 2 weeks for us to get married (YAY) and I have some questions about how to fill out my W4 for my new job starting in August. My wife will be moving to the US June 25th so she will meet the 30 day requirement for this year as well as the 183-day test because (of the Substantial Presence Test) she will have be in the states from June 25-December 31 (190 days). So my questions are:

    1. Can I file as married since by the end of the year she will be considered a "resident alien" through the Substantial Presence Test?

    2. Can we file joint tax returns at the end of the year?

    3. Or do the previous two questions not matter because she must be a resident alien for the entire tax year?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

  9. My fiance should have her interview for her K-1 visa coming up shortly (within the next 2 months) however, we have a trip planned to travel to Rome in June just prior to using her K-1 to immigrate. The problem we have is that we travel through the US (JFK) from Canada to get to Rome. Will there be problems with immigration if she is wanting to enter the US but not use her K-1 to travel through the United States? I hope this all makes sense and any help would be appreciated!

  10. I am compiling passport stamps, boarding passes, photographs and am realizing that I have quite a bit of paper here. Has anyone created like an appendix and then subsequently numbered each of the documents that you are using for this section? I have approximately 2 pages of passport stamps (some look better than others), 28 pages of itineraries/boarding passes, and a zip lock bag with 5 photos included. Would it be easier to create an appendix of all of these documents to include (paper-clipping to all the documents together with the appendices) or would that be frowned upon?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

  11. Since I am a graduate student and will have potentially finished my degree while the K-1 is processing (will be submitted in a couple of weeks), I am using my parent's address during the process since it will be a stable address. My question is, when filing the AOS, I know we will be living at a different address (due to more graduate school because I just cannot get enough), so can I still use my parent's address during the AOS even though we will not be living there or should I use the new address? Also, do I need to do anything to changing the address from the I-94 (I believe this is the form) when she enters the country or can I just go ahead and fill out the AOS with the new address? Any help would be so so appreciated.

  12. Hello everyone! I have been a long time reader of this site and have a couple questions that I have not seen asked/answered up until this point. We will be beginning our visa journey this summer with the submission of the I-129f. However, this fall starts the second year of my masters program. Following my masters program I will be entering a PhD program. However, I do not know where I will be going quite yet. So the two questions I have are:

    1. Can I use my parents address as my permanent address as well as the address that my fiance will be living when she immigrates? (technically we both will be living there for about a month prior to moving to start my PhD)
    2. Has anyone had successes with their parents co-sponsoring the I-134? Do my parents have to fill out copies of all forms along the way or can they just fill out that one form?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
