  1. I think it is important that I update this post.

I went today to get my learner's permit in Manhattan office on 31st Street.

    They took

    - my passport with printed out 1-94

    - my marriage certificate

    - SSN Card

I just filed AoS documents two weeks ago and I am yet to get my NOA1 hardcopy.

They gave my two months with my learner's permit beyond my 1-94 expiration date.

    Hi there!

So I am having troubles getting some paperwork done, and I was considering getting my DL in NYC too.

What I'm wondering is: Your learners permit is valid up until expiration date i94 +2months. Are you sure that when you do the road test, you will have a valid DL, which isn't going to expire on the expiration date of the i94?

My HB reads the DMV website & some posts made here on visajourney as:

    - You get a learners permit which expires on the date of the i94

    - If before this date, you will do the road test, pass, and get your DL, it will also expire on the day the i94 expires, leaving you with no DL at all till you try again after receiving your Green Card.

    Regards,

    Maarten

  2. I read somewhere approximately 3 months.

    Good luck!

hey all! approaching our interview date next week and it has me wondering.. at what point after entry are they allowed to work in the new country? i know there is an adjustment of status application and what not but can anyone just give me a general estimated timeline? my fiance is coming to the US from australia and he is wondering how soon he can begin working in the states.. any help is appreciated.. thanks!

  3. Hi All!

So today I receveived the appointment letter from the Embassy in Brussels. 27th October ( :joy: )

    But that's 12 days after our NOA2 expiry date ( )

On the letter they wrote that we need to bring an additional dated letter to the interview which states that we both remain legally free to marry and continue to intend to marry within 90 days

    So here's my question:

-Is this enough? I vaguely remember that the petitioner has to write a letter to the Embassy.

Correct? Anyone any experience with this? Any examples?

Thanks for the help you guys!

  4. hello! i can't say for your embassy. every embassy has different procedures. for brazil, i didnt have to do anything for "packet 3." brazil is using the new online system for scheduling interviews, so yes, i will be able to pick the date and time myself. but some embassys are still following the old system, where they schedule the interview for you

    good luck!

Oh I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

    Thx & good luck!

  5. Thank you! I was just able to make the payment, no problem! nowwwwwww i just have to wait for my fiance to WAKE UP so we can pick a date! hehe :)

wooooohooooooooo congrats! that makes me so happy to hear that! now you can just enjoy your time together and not have to stress about this!! let us know how it goes! its so close!! :)

Hi Mark! Shouldn't be a problem as long as you can make international charges with your card. (I'm the USC) and I was just able to make the payment a few minutes ago using my paypal debit card. When i called they said it doesn't matter who makes the payment, or who's name is on the card. does aileen's embassy use the new online scheduling system? if so, then that should be fine. hope all is well!

Just a quick question. Does this mean that you're able to actually CHOOSE an interview date @ the embassy?

I got my pack 3 2 weeks ago and in there it says that you have to hand back some stuff (DS-230, DS-160,...) & only after you send back the checklist they are able to provide you with one.

Therefore i'm just keeping myself from sending allthis because I need a date after 28th of september...

  6. Hi all!

So we got our NOA2 earlier this week, so probably things are moving a lot quicker now...

I have a question, which i would like to direct to those of you who got there interview date already.

Did you guys have the option to choose the date of your interview? If so, how was this possible? Online, via a call to the embassy...

I have a biiiig problem if they appoint a date before 28th of September.

    Thanks!!!

  7. You get to bring unlimited "household goods" into the US. If on the plane with you, the CBP calls that "accompanied goods". You don't have to itemize or value them on the customs form you get on the plane. Our agent said simply write "household goods" on the form. By definition it is supposed to be things you have owned for a year. If you buy sunglasses or gifts in duty free, then list and value those items like any other trip because they are brand new with tags.

Things that are shipped over are call "unaccompanied" and require a big customs form where you list the inventory of the boxes. You also include a photocopy of your visa to show you are immigrating and get to bring your stuff free.

I'm still far from moving, but i'm looking into all of this.

In regards to the 'unaccompanied goods'. The form CBP 3299 needs to be filled in (the inventory). Does this form needs to be placed inside the box together with a photocopy of the visa? I would be shipping it by courier or postal service to my new address and hoping they would deliver it there

From what I found on google, this was to be taken to the CBP at the POE when everything was clear

  8. One of the things that really gets me - and I haven't really seen much about it on this particular thread - is the fact that people going through Texas have to wait so long. While I was expecting to go through Texas, we made arrangements to see each other based off the fact that we were going to have to wait 6-9 months if everything went through on time.

So when we got routed to CSC, it was a big surprise and we were so excited to only have to wait a fraction of the time. So then we decided to save our money and not have any visits between US/Brazil until the visa process was over. There's a lot of posts I see on this site saying "at least you don't have to go through Texas", and as much as I hate to say it, they went into the process expecting the wait. It really does suck expecting a certain amount of time, and then waiting longer, and longer, and then just sort of giving up on waiting for the text or email.

We have drones, cell phones that we can talk face-to-face with people on the other side of the world, we've put people on the moon, but we don't have a way to track a couple pieces of paper throughout an office. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to bring my fiancee here, but I feel that the lack of updates and tracking and the phone calls that lead to "just keep waiting" take advantage of our desperation to be together sometimes.

    Just my late night thoughts!

I know exactly what you mean... If I had know to being routed to CSC I would have made differtent plans (like not planning another stay,...) now it means that I need to hold up the interview, medical etc until after my next visit, 'cause I kinda have a feeling that I would be able to get the visa before it. Which would cause problems with my job & appartment :-S

Not that I'm not gratefull for it, but still. I could be moving sooner...

  9. They do it by approximating how long on average it takes the CSC to process the visa, and then calculates the estimated dates of the petitions being processed.. so for example, right now the average is 31 days, and 31 days ago would mean April 25th.

I too got confused as when I first saw it, I thought it meant "today we got petitions processed with these dates", but it's really just an estimate.

    Thanks for the clarification!

  10. Ok guys, something odd I just realized about this site...

When looking at the Immigration Timelines, I saw that this site predicts that at CSC, they're handling applications with NOA1 date April 25th...

How on earth do they predict (or know?!) this. The 25th was a Saturday. I'm pretty sure the government doesn't work during the weekend.

I'm sorry if this post annoys you guys, but I have too much time on my hands :dancing:

  11. Hi Everyone!

I know I'm very early in the process of applying for a visa (K-1, just received NOA1), but I have at this point a burning question due to the process going faster than we anticipated which might mess with me preparing everything in my home country.

We are applying for the visa through the embassy in Brussels (Belgium) and I am wondering if you can schedule your interview yourself (choose the date and/or time) OR do you get an appointed time?

I hope that someone might help me out!

    Thank you very much!!
