  1. Nowhere do they ask to redo the whole packet though.
All they ask for is to redo the I-485 form and put the green page on top.

I just want to avoid them cashing in both our checks if we are to send another one. If the stamping is their way of showing those parts are fine, then that would mean the check has been cleared and will be cashed once the I-485 is correct.

I'd hate it for them to send it all back to us again over the check. It costs us $40 each time to send it all to them.

  2. Hi everyone,

Due to a pile of events I forgot to check before sending out my package if any of the forms had been updated. The I-485 I sent (albeit not expired) had been updated in January.)

I received a I-797 for this. The entire package came back. Most seemed processed in a way. It has been stamped and some thing penned drawn along the bottom. And things were stapled together too.

Now the question is, attached to the (wrong) I-485 is our check. It has been stamped on front and back.

Nothing was taken from our bank account.

Do we re-attach it. Or write a new one?

  3. Greetings everyone,

I have a couple of questions. Hope some of you can help me out.

We want to get married on October 31st.

But even in the case of the earliest date we can do it (I understand the marriage license is issued immediately?) we have the choice of the earliest day the 11th this month.

After we are married, we need the psychical copy of the certificate to do the AOS. But until what time am I considered illegally in the country? Until they receive my AOS request?

Because online it says it takes 60-120 days! And I can't find how fast expedited is.

Question: So what exactly do I need to do if we get married before the 10th of November. But we're not able to get a certificate yet?

*I did get my SSN this Friday.

    Thanks everyone,

    ~O+J

  5. I'm needing some help, and I started a thread but didn't get a straight answer. I'm hoping someone here can help me.

Ok so about 2 years ago my fiancé filed for a tourist visa, and completed the DS160. (He was denied the visa due to ties) At that time, the form asked if he has any family in the states at which he replied no. Apparently he did have family in the states. His aunt and uncle lived here, but his family is never in contact with them. He thought they still lived in Canada, and had no idea they were living in the states. They contacted them about a year ago and he found out they had moved from Canada to the states. So now he's filling out the DS-160 and he is going to answer yes to the question of course. will they possibly think he was lying on his last DS-160, or am I stressing over nothing? Also, it asks who is supporting his stay. I am currently in school and only get child support. My dad makes 70,000 a year and is co sponsoring him, so does he put me down, or my dad?

Nobody would consider this lying if he didn't know at the time he filled in the form. If they do ask, his explanation sounds is fine.

And who really knows all of their family members? IE: I only once met one uncle from my father's side of the family that's all I know from that side.

  6. Thanks for the info, I will change my timeline accordingly. I am less worried now that I found this website. It's so terrifying to be kept in the dark. I'm pretty sure everyone on here has panicked at one point. I wish you all the best! ;)

Paying attention to the estimates on VJ is a double edged sword.

The good thing about it is that you have an idea what to expect and how long it might take. While at the same time it is just an estimate and you might start to drive yourself nuts when your case is taking longer than the average for cases similar to yours.

  7. Hi everyone!

I finally found out how to use this forum! I have sent out our I-129F back in february and got a NOA1. (Recieved date 24 Feb 2016 - Notice date 26 Feb 2016) I am not sure which date to follow but anyway I am still waiting for our NOA2. It's been a little over 2 months and I am hoping and praying our visa will come out in a timely manner. Our wedding date is 18 Nov 2016 and we have already booked everything.

    Welcome to the forums!

Go with the notice date for your timeline.

You should be close to getting a response, keep hope :)

Many months left till November, just compare your fellow K1-ers who are also from Hong Kong (from what I recall it's usually really fast for you guys.) to see how long it might all take until you have your visa in hand.

  8. We're going to go ahead and have a real wedding. A couple things: first, I quickly learned that I hate wedding planning and do noooot want a big one! Second, I also know that if I got married at the courthouse and then had a wedding later the wedding wouldn't feel real. (I know this works for a lot of people - it would just bum me out personally) Luckily though, we found these people in my home state that specialize in small weddings and pretty much do all the wedding planning for you AND can take bookings with only a few months notice (so long as you don't have your heart set on a Saturday wedding) AND it's a beautiful place. So we're going that route and it's ridiculously perfect for what we want and our situation with the visa. We want to give people who have to travel several months notice though so the way we're dealing with that is trying to get this visa process over and done with as soon as possible, set the wedding date as soon as he has the visa in hand, and then wait a few months before he actually moves here. We're planning on him moving here around September and getting married in October if the rest of the process goes smoothly!

I'v been thinking similarly as to the wedding after the courthouse one not being real enough anymore. But I'v changed my thinking to the courthouse one being the bureaucratic one, the ceremony after will be our spiritual wedding. But for us this will really depend on the timing, we'd really like our wedding day to be the 25th of June, it's a tight call but who knows. Otherwise we will have enough time to get married in whatever way we want.

  9. When do I fill out a DS-160 and get my medical appointment and interview? My case currently shows 'In Transit'?

Really depends per country how they want to do that. Try the Belgium US consulate website.

I just came back from getting my body filled with poison for my vaccination requirements. To find the letter from the embassy! Letting me know I can register online and have to send the barcode. Will do that tonight as I sadly have to work.
