  1. We just had our interview and it did not go well. I'm really confused about what happened and I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else:

We went for our interview and we brought our I 797C, and everything listed under "You must bring the following items with you". We arrived early, and when we were called into the meeting the woman asked us general questions and then looked through our file and said, "want to hear the bad news first?" And my heart sank. She then said, that we did not have passport photos (which were not listed on the I 797C). My husband luckily had one with him but she said that since I didn't have any and the office had "lost" the additional passport photos that we had previously submitted, I would need to get some taken across the street.

She then said that my husband's medical was expired. We were both very confused by this because it was the medical he used to enter the country and then we sent in his medical information right after we got married and then they set this appointment. The I 797C stated that if the medical was already submitted, it was not needed for this appointment so we were very confused. Why would it matter if it were expired now, if it was already submitted? We had brought the copy of the previously submitted one, just in case, but the form said it wasn't needed.

She then said that our taxes were not previously submitted (at this point my head was swimming and I didn't even realize until we had left, that yes we had submitted this already, but it was "lost" from our file according to her), then she said that our previously submitted G25A form is no longer good (from a few months ago) and must be resubmitted. She said that if we had had all these forms, she would have approved us on the spot. Then after she told us were weren't approved, she went right back to interviewing us which was very unsettling, I was trying to be upbeat and answer the questions well all while I really wanted to cry.

So my question is, were other people asked for passport photos even though the I 797C did not request it. And were you asked for the medical again, and your 1040 again, and asked to resubmit your G25A? I'm just really frustrated because we would have brought all these things if we understood that it was needed, but based on the I 797C it did not appear that we needed to bring all these extra items.

  2. Hi everyone, wow taxes are fun... I'm using Turbo Tax because I tried doing taxes manually and my calculations seemed very off. My fiance came to the US in November 2015 and we got married in December 2015. He has not worked in the US, but worked in the UK until October 2015.

I filled it out as MFJ and it looked like we were going to get a nice return but as soon as I listed his foreign earned income (which I was told that we would not be taxed on because it was lower than the limit) our return morphed into an owed amount. Has anyone else filed similarly on TurboTax and can let me know if I am doing something wrong? There seemed no option to import the 2555EZ form.

    Thank you in advance.

  3. Can anyone who got married at SFCH provide some insight to their process/experience? We were married on 12/23/15 and the JOTP told us to check online for when the license would be ready but the website just says we can apply for the license (apply for them to search for it) but we read in one part of the website that it takes 10 days and in another part it said 4-6 weeks for it to be searchable.

It is unclear if we should apply for it online now or if we should wait, or if we will be contacted when it is ready. Did anyone use this venue and if yes, how long did it take and how did you know when it was ready? Thank you.

  4. Hi everyone. Sorry if this has been covered before. My fiance has arrived in the US and we are getting a bit confused about the order in which we should apply for the EAD/AP. We are concerned that if we apply now and pay all the fees, that after we get married (in the next few weeks) we will have to pay again when we file the i485.

Can anyone confirm the order that they did this, and if we should apply for the EAD/AP combo card before we get married or just do it along with the AOS? Thank you.

  5. Hi everyone. From what I've read, no one who has reported that the London embassy has been asked for a copy of their original i129F packet, but I just wanted to see if anyone who has interviewed there in the last year was asked to show their original packet? When my fiance visited over the summer I forgot to give him the copy of the original packet that I had made. Our interview is in nine days so a rush delivery would be really expensive, and it seems unnecessary but I just wanted to check to see if anyone was ever asked to show it? Thank you.

  7. Hi, I'm in a similar situation with my fiance, our 4 month is up on October 3, and he sent in his readiness/medical on September 1 to the London embassy. Is there a specific number or email we are supposed to contact in addition to him just bringing our updated intent to marry page written by me? I'm just concerned that we need it officially extended and I'm having trouble trying to figure out who to contact/what to do.

  8. Hi everyone,

My fiance and I are getting ready for him to apply for his interview, one of the questions he had to answer (with a specific date) was what date we were planning on getting married. Well, we want to get legally married as soon as he arrives and then our wedding will be in July. Since we won't know when he can arrive until after the interview, and will have to schedule it at city hall in San Francisco (which fills up quickly) we don't know the exact date of the city hall ceremony. Has anyone else been in this situation, and what did you put down on the form? TIA

Edit: at SFCH you can only arrange the ceremony 90 days in advance so I can't hold a date, especially before we have his interview set

  9. Based on the embassy reviews I would say bring everything because depending on which agent you get, they ask for different things. It's better to be safe than sorry. That's what we are planning on doing, we will even bring a copy of the I 129F even though it most likely it will not be requested.

  10. Update but still more questions: Fiance finally got through and he was given our case number and the woman at NVC said we would get mail from the embassy in the next month or so. But she didn't say anything about the NOA2. I'm sort of confused now. Now that we have our case number, can I do anything? Do we go online and register it and if so, what website? Anyone have any advice?

  11. Congrats to you! We are in a similar timeline to you, we have been approved but are still waiting on the NOA2 email/text/hard copy. For the affidavit of support, I've been living outside of the country for most of the past five years so I don't have tax returns. But I do have a letter from my employer, pay stubs and I will get a letter from my bank.

Should I submit a letter explaining the lack of tax returns with copies of my visas and my international university information to show I was not in the US? Does anyone have any experience with this at the London embassy?

  12. Hi everyone. My fiance and I checked online and with our i 129f receipt # we saw that our case was approved by CSC on June 3. I had filled out the form to be notified by text and email but I have not received any notification nor has any hard copy arrived in the mail, I viewed others' timelines and it seems that the hard copy has normally arrived 7-10 business days after being approved.

So we've been trying to call NVC to see if they have our case and if we have a case number. The number we've been trying is 1(603) 334-0700. I haven't been able to get through for the past few days and he called from England today and was on hold for twenty minutes and when the woman picked up she said "I have to transfer you" when he asked about our case number. Then he was disconnected because the queue was too long at this point.

Can anyone recommend a different number to call, possibly wherever she was trying to transfer him. Or can we get our case number online? Thank you in advance!

  13. Congrats! :dancing:

And congrats to you! Yes, I've seen that happen to quite a few people. It seems USCIS is always hit-and-miss about notifications.

Also, in case any of you foreign beneficiaries are thinking of visiting your fiancé in the US post-NOA2, I just wanted to share my experience. My fiancé just flew in today and had quite a scare. He got put in a different line and then got pulled aside for secondary questioning. I got so scared thinking they would turn him away for some reason even though he had strong proof of ties to France and a copy of NOA2 as well as packet 3. Well... turns out it was the airport's mistake for putting him in the wrong line. They apologized and sent him through without asking a single question about the visa. :)

Thanks for the story. My foreign fiance is coming to visit next month and we will have him bring work emails, his return tickets and then upcoming flights out of England to prove he is going back. Will the NOA2 be mailed to the beneficiary AND the petitioner?
