  1. Does anyone know or have any experience with info pass appointments? My local is Philadelphia and they literally never have appointments online. It doesn’t help that they only show 14 days. Do they reset at a certain time or on a certain day, is there a best time to check? Trying to get a stamp in my passport as it’s looking like I won’t have an approval until next January and my extension letter only gives me until this June.

  2. The name change is part of a section in the N400 package so you’ll just fill that part out the way you want your name to appear. Since you are doing a legal name change, when the time comes for you to be naturalized you’ll have to have a judicial ceremony rather than a normal one because of the name change. I changed my name at time of marriage and filed for my new passport this summer, I filed by mail (also from Canada) and you simply just include the document that supports the name change (which would be your certificate of naturalization that shows change of name) and your new passport will reflect that change. I also plan to change my first name when the time comes for my N400 so I have read up a lot about this process.

  3. So my 90 days before my 2 year Permanent Residency is October 2nd this year, so we're starting to get the application together and I'm hoping on some advice for evidence based on our situation.

We currently live on the lower level of my husbands grandparents house and pay them board, electric, cable and internet every month so we don't have any sort of lease or mortgage with our names.

We have a joint checking and savings. I'm on his car insurance (I don't currently have my own car). We have a one year old daughter. We're both on our T-Mobile plan. We filed the last two tax years jointly. We will shortly be on the same health insurance plan. So just all of that is what we have for the most part.

We dont have assets of any kind. I thought of possibly having his grandfather write a letter saying what we pay him for and how much every month if that would even make a difference? Also some potential letters from friends as support of evidence.

Any advice for my situation is appreciated! The last thing I would want is an RFE or to he denied! Thank you!

  4. So my 90 days before my 2 year permanent residency is on October 1st, and I'll be sending in my application for my new passport (Canada) likely within the next few weeks. I obviously won't have my old passport with me since I have to send it in when I'll be putting the Removal of Conditions application together. Will that be an issue? Even for say biometrics or an interview and I still don't have my new/old one yet?

I have selected to have my old passport returned to me in the event I need it since my K1 is in there and who knows if I might ever need that for something immigrated related. Thanks in advance!

  5. So, I entered the US in May with my K1 and waited the normal two weeks to go and apply for a social security card and was successful doing so. That was before I got married so it had my maiden name. In August, I went back shortly after I was married with marriage certificate and all of my documents (had not yet applied for AOS) and right away the person said it may not work due to my name not matching what was in the system. He was right, so I applied for AOS about two weeks following this and waited until I got all of my NOA's in the mail that said my married name so I could go back and prove that my name was now the married one in the system. Long story short, there was another problem. Went back a few weeks later after that, another issue! (Different issues every time that I fixed before I went back to try again)

So this brings me to a few days ago, I went back a fourth time, but the person helping me did not have any experience in cases with people not from the US. So she went to ask another employee, and when she came back she said: first, I was one day from the K1 expiry date. (Void from the time I use it to enter, so uh..) second, my I-94 date with "admit until date: August 13, 2015" made the I-94 "expired" to them. (Never been told this before, only had an issue previously with the ACTUAL I-94 expiry date, which I had updated)

Lastly: I would receive a new social security card with my MARRIED name in the mail WITH my green card??? Never have I been told this before, read or seen this info anywhere!

So I mostly want to confirm this and also share my ridiculous Social Security struggle. They certainly do not make it easy!

  6. Question 16 on the form: "Eligibility Category.nGo to the "Who May File Form I-765?" Section under instructions. In the space below, place the letter and number of eligibility category you selected from the instructions. For example,(a)(8), ©(17)(iii), etc.

It is my understanding as a k1 holder you are to enter ©(9) BUT I got married on day 85 and am not filing until after my I-94 expired. Is this still the correct code for my situation to enter in the Employment Authorization form?

    Thanks so much!

  7. SO I'm currently putting together my Adjustment of Status package. I got my k1 visa in April and moved to the US in May, and got married just over two weeks ago. My first question is, I tried to change my name on my Social security card about a week after the wedding and it didn't go through at the office where the person at the office said it was common for it to not work due to the name saved in the DHS system. He referred me to call DHS and have them change it so that I could come back and change it without issue. I came back home and read on Visa Journey and the USCIS website to just simply fill out the forms in the AOS package in the married name but include maiden name as other names used (found in some of the forms in the package). Is this right to do? Once the name has changed in DHS system because of my package I should successfully be able to go back and change the name on the card.

Second, the medical part of the package, I had my medical stuff done for the K1 back in April so I am wondering what to include in terms of medical proof and stuff needed for the AOS package. I have the stuff the Visa doctor gave back to me from my results so I am totally unsure of what to include!

Last, in terms of financial stuff from the US citizen (Husband) I need to include (obviously tax return from most recent year) should I or do I need to include anything else? Thank you!

  8. Just wondered what people's experiences were and how long everything took, what kind of things happened etc and if people have any advice for me.

I'm driving down with my dad on Saturday with all of my stuff and just wanted to get some insight as to how the POE goes and if there's anything I should know to do or not to do! Thanks!

  9. So I just my K1 visa in the mail a few days ago and figuring out all of my moving details for some point in may and right now I'm trying to figure out what I should do about my license. I have seen lots of the topic on this site about people from different areas in Canada moving to different states in the US and were able to transfer/convert their existing Canadian one to the state where they will live.

I'm coming from Ontario and moving to Pennsylvania. If anyone has any info on the subject I'd greatly appreciate your wisdom! Just trying to figure out the best and easiest way to go about getting my license in PA.

  10. Hi,

My K-1 Visa interview is on the 21st and I'm just wondering something:

In theory, what would happen if you brought scanned documents of your I-134 and Letter of Intent to the visa interview? Would they immediately decline you or could they still approve you and they would just ask you to send them the original documents? I'm sure there would be a delay of getting your visa, of course, but is it at all possible?

    Thanks.

  11. You should not bring the scanned or copy of it. I think I read on here someone had a delay in theirs because they handed them the copy of the letter. He should sign and send you a letter with the original wet-ink. I had him sign off 3 or 4 of these for me lol just in case, but they only ask for one - no photo copy. I could be wrong tho.

    thanks so much!

  12. Hey, just a question about the letter of intent that I need signed by my fiance within 30 days of my consulate interview. (Is on the 21st) today he made one and signed it and scanned and emailed it to me for me to print and bring to my interview. is this correct? does it need to be the EXACT page that he signed and not a scanned copy of it? He will have to send it to me in the mail if that is the case.

  13. So I've got my medical interview booked for the Toronto location on the 9th and I'm just wondering for people who have gone there or even if you know the answer to this.. the 300 fee, in Canadian dollars correct? haha I feel like it's a dumb question I just want to be sure!

  14. So my consulate interview in Montreal is set for April 21st and I am going to schedule my medical within the next few days and I'm just looking for some advice and knowledge from people who have been through it already or know more than I do.
So I'm debating on whether or not to go to the Toronto or Scarborough doctor. I can make it to either one of those by GO transit but I just want to know what the pros are for both and cons if any! It looks like the Toronto doctor is the only one I can reach and see info about online. With the Toronto one it's looking like I either have to pay an extra $50 for courier to have it delivered (I would prefer not to have to go back to Toronto a few days later to pick up results) so I don't know what the delivery method is like with Scarborough if anyone on here has info about that.

I've read online with some panel physicians that they deliver your results electronically to the embassy and that maybe this was the case with the Scarborough doctor. If anyone has any answers for me I'd appreciate it!

  15. I think it has to be paid in order to open up the date selection for the interview. I had to take my pdf files into the bank and pay them at the bank. They stamped them so that I could bring them to the interview and my payment was updated online a few days later. Now this was in late 2012, so I don't know if it has changed since then.

I also have a Visa / Debit card issued by Scotiabank. It works great in the US for either debit or credit. Only seems to work in Canada as a debit card. I cannot use it for a Visa in Canada unless I am making a purchase online. I recently sent by mail the applications for new Canadian passports for the kids and I could not use it as a Visa for that, so I had to use my U.S. Visa card.

Good luck. I hope it goes through.

Yeah so I recently went to Scotiabank with the pdf and the payment went through almost right away. I got an email almost an hour later confirming the payment and successfully scheduled my interview! was freaking out for a bit that I would be screwed in paying the fee. another thing checked off!

  16. captainyeti, I'm surprised you got this far without the long form....what did you submit when you sent in all your info? chances are if you got this far you have the right document but don't know it. i cannot see you getting this far without it, gosh your interview is next month.

the long form btw is on legal sized paper and like previous posters have mentioned is only available through service canada.

as for the interview and passport this is copied from http://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Supplemental/MTL%20-%20Montreal.pdf

That's so weird, I don't even remember them needing even my regular small birth certificate at any time so until now I totally thought just having that was acceptable. I did send an application to get the long one a few days ago so I'm definitely glad I found out. Thanks so much!
