Hello!
I just hit my 90 day period about 10 days ago and am pretty close to having my application ready, but I will be moving March 1st (my green card expires mid-April). I will be on the new lease (am not on our current one) and was wondering if I should wait til March 1st to apply (and have my new address and some new paperwork to include) or just apply ASAP considering how long and draw out this process seems and submit a change of address at a later time. Thoughts?

Okay, that's what I figured. I don't see what the lawyer could offer that would make a difference, but my husband and I are pretty desperate to get things moving ASAP so I thought I should ask.

Hi everyone!
So a coworker of my husband's recently gave him a recommendation for an immigration lawyer. Apparently, this lawyer managed to get the coworker's UK husband in the US in just 5 1/2 months about 2 years ago. Now based on all the research I've done, how on EARTH is this possible??? Perhaps it was expedited? Anyone have any clue how this could be?

Thanks, Dualie!
You guys, I'm going to be SO PREPARED when the time comes to apply for the CR-1.
T-minus 3 months! (ish)

Thanks everyone! Just one of those things I feel no one tells you about So a certified marriage certificate is sufficient? No one's found the need for the apostille (or whatever it's called)?

Hello!
I'll be getting married in Vegas this summer with the intention of returning to Canada and starting the CR-1 process. Do I need to notify the government or anything like that? Are there any requirements to have the marriage recognized in Canada (specifically Quebec)?
Thanks as always!

Ha! Sometimes I pack TOO light for the Canadian customs agents' tastes (apparently girls should have more than an overnight bag when they visit their boyfriend for the weekend). But I'm pretty much a customs master I travel so frequently, and since we live relatively close to each other (6 hour drive, 8 hour Greyhound), I usually just stay for the weekend so I don't think I ever look too suspicious to CBP. But I was curious to know how testy they could get if one crosses over to get married.
We're also likely not doing rings (we're still in the very early stages of all this, but I'm a planner), but if we change our minds that's good to know!
I'll hunt down your pother posts to find that link

Yeah, that's kind of the logic that's leading me to pick the CR-1. With that, you know you're getting a long wait no matter what and there's time to get one's things in order, no 90 day rush to organize a wedding and no waiting to work. As my significant other and I live in the same time zone just a 6 hour drive away, this really is the most logical choice.

Thanks for all the replies! All extremely helpful

Quick question:
Now I know lying at customs is a big fat no-no, but I am curious as to whether anyone who was going to eventually pursue a CR-1 ever entered the US with the purpose of getting married and said so to the customs agent. I'm assuming as long as you have your return ticket/proof of ties to your country everything should be fine, but I was curious.

And I already have an SSN!
Alright, seems like CR-1 is best for me.

CR1 have a lot of bonuses especially for Canadians who live on the eastern side of Canada.
Really? Please elaborate!

Ooh thanks for the historical processing times link, I had yet to discover this!
Travel time to get married is not an issue for us (we are very lucky) and getting the certificate in NYC (where we will get married either way) doesn't seem too difficult, so I really am leaning toward the CR-1. I guess I was just looking for one more thing to add to the pro column.
There just seems to be less stress with the CR-1. When you apply for that, you're expecting a bit of a wait whereas K-1 these days seems to be extremely random.

Hello everyone!
I am currently weighing the pros and cons of each option and one thing that kind of remains a question mark is the TSC backlog. Am I right in thinking that due to that issue, K-1s are taking longer, and are, in fact, not that much more efficient time wise than the CR-1? From what I've bear reading in these forums, there just seems to be a lot of uncertainty when it comes to the K-1. (Or maybe I'm totally wrong.)
Any thoughts are appreciated!

Hi!
So I'm just starting to research the whole K-1/AOS process... My main concern is working while waiting for the GC. I was pleased to learn that one can apply for a EAD at the same time as the GC, potentially allowing for me to work until the GC comes through. What I'm wondering is if having applied for an EAD before will help me/speed things up in anyway. I was on F-1 status and filed a I-795 in Winter 2012/2013 so that I could get OPT, which I did and which expired in February 2014. So I have a SSN and all my old paperwork. Will this make the EAD application easier once I am married and simultaneously file that and the I-485? Any chance I won't have to do the biometrics? Or is this all wishful thinking?
Basically, having worked in the US before I'm just hoping I won't have to wait too long before I can get started again as I know I will be able to get work (fairly) easily once I return.
Thank you very much!
