  1. Hello all!

I am new to these forums and just beginning to investigate the process for immigrant visas for my wife and her daughter, (Brazilian). We have been living together here in Rio de Janeiro since 2008, and were legally married in April of last year.

We want to move back to the U.S. so that I can help care for my ailing father and now that we are taking a serious look at the CR1 process, it appears that we'll be looking at nearly a year wait here in Brazil, or separation during that time period.

My question is, with the removal of the DCF option here in Brazil, would there be any advantage to applying for an "exception" to allow us the DCF based on my father's medical condition? (i.e. Is it reasonable to expect that the turn around period would be something like the 58 days mentioned above in this thread?) The consulate has already responded via email that we could submit the request stating the reasons in detail, for review. But I don't know now if the DCF will actually speed up the process or not.

    Any thoughts?
