  1. Can someone please tell me how it works after you file for AOS? I filed in July 2014 and they send a letter where I was told to expect an answer in May 2015. I got work/travel permit in November 2014.

What is in May? A 2 year valid green card? Then 3 months before the 2 years will expire you do Removing of Conditions? Or when is the removing of conditions? Then once you file to remove conditions, how long is the wait for the 10 year green card, I suppose? Like 6 or 7 months?

If someone went through all this could you please explain little bit? It seems like all this process is going to take many years, maybe 4 years...

Thank you. Have a great day everyone!

  2. Unlikely to get sick pay in such a job.

Why? Sick pay is a right in Europe. I worked in the hospitality industry for many years and if someone became sick they would get paid... no human rights in America?

It doesn't matter what kind of job you have, everyone should be entitled to sick pay leave, paid maternity leave, free health care....but I see America is not like Europe. Here no one is entitled to basic human rights. Sad

  3. Sweet, I have finally found where all the Europeans hang out! I have heard people talking about these regional forums but there are so many forums here it's kind of confusing...

Anyway, I have a few questions. I am currently waiting for my NOA2, have been waiting since end of July. I was wondering if I can get some stuff out of the way before the NOA2 and hopefully speed up the rest of the process. I also know that difference embassy's have different rules about these sort of things so I am hoping some fellow Swedes (or partners of awesome Swedes) can help me out with some questions.

    1. If I were to request a copy of my criminal record (or lack thereof) now, how long would it be valid?

    2. Can I do the medical exam without having received my NOA2 yet? If I did do my medical now, how long would it be valid?

Thank you so much in advance!!

    /Maria

I did my medical in Göteborg and it was valid for 1 year. Same with the police record, 1 year).

  4. Back in January, I went to a job interview at Hampton Inn, in the city where I currently live.

The manager who interviewed me, before asking me any questions, said that at this job I will NEVER be allowed to become sick, not even one day. She warned me if only one time I call out, I don't need to come back to work, I will be immediately terminated!

I listened to her in shock. I had a very calm expression while listening. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She said she is making her own rules there and no one is ever allowed to become sick.

Is this possible? I'm from Europe and I have never heard someone talk this way. In Europe if you become sick you can stay home to recover and you get paid for that! And if you're sick a few times a year, that's ok, no problem. I'm in shock when I look at the American system.

Where are the human rights coming in here? Maybe in America you are not entitled to anything...maybe they are against human rights?

I didn't feel like I want to have that job.

  5. Food in Europe is much better and healthier. Why are most European people so slim and healthy? Because the food and water is not so poisoned like in the US. Healthy citizens are productive citizens.

And because they exercise more as well. Where I currently am in the US, I've never seen one person exercising. I know some are, but maybe not too many. It makes me sad when I look around every day and I see what I see!

It's sad and scary when you're at some restaurants and certain people eat 5 plates of all kinds of fried foods...maybe it's the Monosodium Glutamate that makes them want more and more. That's why we must be very careful what we eat here.

Here many people can't eat only organic because of their income...Most Americans are poor, unfortunately! The American dream is a big lie for many here.

  6. Firstly, Its 330 million people to feed, recheck your figures.

Secondly, not complaining. Replying to a thread asking whether I liked American food or not, and i don't- and I'm explaining why.

Not everyone has the choice to buy organic. I have been without a work permit for 5 months- My husbands income alone has not been sufficient to buy organic, but We can when we can, so don't assume things about people you know nothing about. When I was working back in Dublin, part time I could find affordable organic, HighFructoseCornSyrup FreeTransfatFreeGMOfreeArtificialFlavourFree food cheaply, and locally.

Also it would be nice not to have to spend an extra hour shopping because you need to read every single label of every item you pick up.

Dont take just Ireland- take Europe as a whole- still doesn't allow use a lot of the controversial food methods the US does.

Also about the median income- I don't buy into the whole "America has better opportunity for all ect ect"- it depends. Its specific. Doesn't apply to all other western, modern countries.

Immigrating to a country doesn't automatically take away your opinions- I don't like US food in comparison to many European countries, think its dangerous (and it is dangerous) and Il tell people when asked, like this thread asked.

    Don't get so upset :dancing:(F)

  7. Yes, minerals. But what about all the hidden chemicals and drugs added to the tap water that most people don't know about? Those chemicals and drugs that can cause real health problems in time? If you didn't watch this youtube video about the water in the U.S and the water in Europe, please do "The Great Culling, Our Water, Official Full Movie." Do research, do not believe those in power, they don't care about your health, it's all about money ?

  8. Yes, I try to eat very healthy and buy organic as much as I can and cook healthy meals. Only that food here has a very different taste and there is the artificial corn syrup in almost everything, which is so bad for our health. It's just sad that this country doesn't require labels on all their GMO foods. Anyway, there are good places, like some of you said, where you can buy good foods.
