  1. Thanks you all for replying,

now my understanding is that I have to travel back to the US to establish domicile and to find a co sponsor to get an immigrant visa. Does the same thing apply for the K3/ non immigrant visa. If yes, what use is it if I still have to be separated from them to go back and start the whole process from the US!

Second question: I am credited with 40 social security quarters but not during my marriage to my wife. Can this qualify me to file I 864w or not?

  2. Hi all:

I am a US citizen who have lived and worked in the US for 10 years. I left the US two and half years ago and have been living in Egypt since then. I got married and now have a six months old daughter who acquired US citizenship at birth through me( I have the counselor report of birth abroad in hand as well as her first US passport.)

I intend to petition my wife to acquire residency of the US. after reading a lot, my understanding is that I will have to file I-130 which in turn requires I 864 (affidavit of support). This is exactly where 2 problems arise:

The first is that my most recent income from working in Egypt is way below the required figure to become a sponsor for my wife.

The second is that I don't have current domicile in my name in the US now( it makes no sense to pay rent somewhere you don't live)

My question: does having a US minor child play any role in this case as far as filling I 864 or I 864w or not.(my wife is the biological mother of the child and her name is on the consular report of birth abroad.)

I just don't want to be separated from them to go to US to establish domicile and start the whole I 130 process from there(as well as looking for a co sponsor of course)

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Hello all readers:

By any chance, would somebody know how long does it usually take for the ACS unit in Cairo, Egypt to contact you for an interview from the time I submitted the applications and the supporting documents?

I was told to keep the originals and submit the photocopies, which I did. I also paid the $100 fee for the CRBA on Jan 21st 2015. I underwent the oath the same day and signed the application in front of the officer.

I can swear I heard him telling me I will be contacted in 10 days. Yet so far I heard nothing from them. I stating to doubt the officer said 10 weeks. I sent the ACS unit an email with these details and asking for an approximate time I should expect a call from them but got no reply.

Would anybody have any ideas on this?

    Thanks in advance.
