I was able to make it to the Oath today as I wasn't sure if I could until yesterday (because of spouse's medical reasons). The officers were kind enough to accommodate me with my spouse whose ceremony was scheduled early morning and mine was scheduled in the afternoon. There were around 3200 people who got naturalized from 142 countries. The ceremony lasted about 30 minutes and then we were requested to collect our Naturalization certificates which we did right after the ceremony. Overall, the ceremony was well organized as it isn't that easy to accommodate over 3000+ crowd. Finally done with the long journey (17 years). Good Luck to all with pending cases and thanks so much to all those who provided valuable input.

Thank you for the reply and explaining the process.
If you miss the ceremony, you'll (eventually) get a letter in the mail asking you to write back and explain why you missed the oath. If you reply within the time period specified in the letter, your oath will be rescheduled and a new letter will be mailed (no way to know if it'll take weeks or months). If you don't reply in time, or if you miss the oath a second time, then you application to naturalize will be denied and you will have to reapply by filing a new N400.
My advice is that you shouldn't miss your oath unless it is absolutely unavoidable; it's worth changing any other plans you have (if possible) to attend.

Need help from experts. My oath is scheduled for Dec 16. If I am unable to make it, what is the process? I do understand that it delays the process but I may not be able to make it. If I will not be able to notify them before the ceremony, what is the process to notify them and where to send the letter? I would appreciate the help.

I agree with you in bringing all possible documents to the interview but here we are talking about taking the same documents to the oath.
These interviews can go into unforeseen directions. Best to be prepared for the worst in my humble opinion. I brought everything I could to my interview from a copy of my birth certificate, real estate tax card as proof of my address, DMV record showing only one traffic ticket, employment letter etc. Talk about overkill!! None of it was required but it helped me feel comfortable that I had enough evidentiary information to show the IO if they needed further proof. The last thing I wanted was for approval to be delayed because of some silly paperwork that I had collecting dust at home. Before I left the interview I told the IO about the additional documents that I had with me. He was pleasantly surprised and a little amused but he made a copy of the DMV record because we changed my form to show the traffic citation. We shall never know but I like to think that I saved myself an RFE.

I agree, I do not want to take everything all over again (just like the interview) but the statement is vague to bring everything issued by USCIS.
That seems like overkill, unless you foresee an undisclosed issue?

I have couple of questions and would appreciate the response from the experts.
1) In the oath letter, under what documents to bring section, it states bring any documentation USCIS issues to you (this is on top of green card). What documentation do I need to take with me other than the green card? I have been living in the US for over 15 years and have whole lot of documents issued by USCIS.
2) Do I have to wait after the oath to update the status with social security office or I can do it right after my Oath?

I can give you an example of my recent N400 interview. During the interview, the interviewer did not go back all the way and ask questions about the employment prior to green card or while I was on H1 or EAD. As NexGen mentioned, they are more concerned about the time period while you were on the green card. Again it was my experience but it can differ for others.

Luckily enough, even though it was listed on the forms for the GC, he didn't get asked about it. The case was processed via a consular interview instead of an AOS inside the US. -
My case also updated last week Tuesday Nov 24th that the Oath Notice has been mailed but until today I have not received it yet. I realize that Thursday was holiday for USPS which may cause the delay but we have received it for my spouse within 3 days of status change. I am wondering when should I reach out to USCIS to inquire about it and if they will at least provide me the possible oath date? Any suggestions?

Congratulations. Isn't it funny that the oath ceremony is on Dec 9th and they mentioned in the earlier update if you do not receive the letter by Dec 19th, request a copy

It took me over 7 months after fingerprinting before my interview got scheduled.

Good evening all,
My mother in law submitted her allocation for naturalization.
The acknowledged processing date is May 4th, 2015.
I wonder if anyone has experienced any significant delays in their naturalization process given that she has not received any communication after her finger print appointment.
Any advice would be heavily appreciated.

My interview was on Nov 2 and recommended for approval. IO told me that each application has to go through the background check again after the interview and it may delay my oath. My initial background check lasted over 7 months before my interview was scheduled. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I personally know someone work for USCIS and got to know they will be implementing the digital files very soon (around end of year) but it may increase the processing times (which I do not understand why).
A few years back they already increased the application fee from $180 to $680. Looks like they will have to increase it to $6,800 in order to pay for new technology.

I was hoping to get the change of status (oath ceremony scheduling) within a week after the interview but did not happen. The only thing I am concerned about after the interview, IO told me that there will be another round of background check which is common after the interview. I just hope it will not take that much time which took me last time before getting the interview (over 7 months).
How long after the interview for the online status change and for the oath letter arrive?
i had my interview on oc 15 and until today nothing yet, and the officer said 3 weeks after interview

Congrats you should be fine now and your status will change to Oath ceremony scheduled letter when they schedule it usually within a month. This immigration office seems to be telling you stories regarding applying before the anniversary thing but common name does cause delay in name check clearance.

I also want to share when the IO was reviewing my N400, she asked me if I am willing to give up citizenship of other country at the time of oath. At that point, I needed clarification so I asked her the reason as US allows dual citizenship so is my country of birth. She was kind of not expecting that question so she started explaining that even though US does allow dual citizenship but it is not recognized formally and it is not very clearly written anywhere. It was a surprise to me that IO is also not sure about it and she still asked me the question (remember this question was not in N400 form). When I asked her if she can explain little more in detail she changed the topic without clarifying it further and without getting my answer.

I want to share my interview experience from yesterday.
My interview was scheduled at 7:20 at LA field office. I was called around 7:40. She asked me to take the oath. The interview lasted for about 40-45 minutes during which the IO went over N400 questions. I had to correct her for the traffic citations which I did not mention it on the application. I took all the paperwork with me and showed it to IO. The IO was very courteous.
American history and civic questions asked are below:
1) What is the supreme law of the land?
2) Who signs bills to become laws?
3) Who vetoes bills?
4) What is the capital of your state?
5) What do we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance?
6) Who did the United States fight in World War II?
Reading test:
What state has largest population?
Writing test:
California has largest population.
After the interview, she recommended me for an approval. When I inquired about the possible oath date, she mentioned that all the applications have to go through the background check again after the interview (which is a surprise to me). I am concerned now as my initial background check before the interview lasted about 7 months.
I would also like to share one possible reason which delayed my background check and I had no idea about it neither I read it on any forum. When I asked the reason for that extensive background check to the IO, first thing she asked me whether I applied prior to 5th year anniversary and then she answered herself that this is the main reason for the delays in background checks. Usually when the applicants apply before the anniversary (3 year or 5 year) regardless USCIS allows it, the background check adds another layer which is a manual process and it takes sometime depending on your name. If your name is common then it will further delay the application during the manual process.
I just hope I don't have to go through all this process again which took forever for me. I also would like to ask how long after the interview does it take to change the online status to whatever the next status is (oath ceremony or oath scheduled).

My interview cancelled for "unforeseen Reason" I will go to interview regardless see now what Bullshit they have to give.

I have a question regarding the civic test. Some questions have multiple answers and it does not mention to pick one or two in the question. In this case, are we expect to answer all or just one would be good enough? An example is below and there are several questions structured in the same way.
Q:
What does the Constitution do?
Answer:

Please update my information. I have applied through regular processing. I sent my Naturalization certificate in plastic sleeve and got it back in the same condition. Thank you everyone for your help on this forum.
