  1. Okay, so I've been avoiding the elephant in the room. My wife (the American) and I came back to U.S. as a visit and ended up staying a little over. By the time we decided we would AOS here as opposed back in Canada, it was time for me to go back. But in the last year of trying to get the packet ready, we kept having financial difficulties. I'd save, then we'd have an emergency and need to spend some of it. My f'ing car has been trying to get me deported for the last six months alone.

Anyway is Immigration gonna be real angry when this fact is revealed? Any suggestions? Clues? Hints? We've been married 8 years, have 7 year old daughter (born in U.S. actually), my wife is just terrified they'll deport me.

  2. Ok, that's useful. But does anyone know if the border considers a couple's property as communal or individual? My wife has stuff that's decades old, and together we have of course purchased new items together like a stove or couch and so on. And I have things I also brought in the marriage. I think my wife really wants to know if she tries to take it all, will the border know whose stuff is who's. Or should we wait for my A number to arrive?

    Thanx gang

  3. Hey Visa Gang,

I shall first state I'm the Immigrating Canadian married to an American. Problems developed where my father decided to sell our house (he was co-owner) when we were not ready and our stuff was going to be sent to us in PODS. Since I don't have my A number yet, they refused. We've been forced to pay $500 a month for storage and bills keep piling, so I suggested to my wife she go back up to Canada and rent a U-haul to get our things back in U.S. Will the U.S. border have an issue with that. She's an American and she has a right to her stuff to be sure. My wife worries that they'll somehow flag what's my stuff or something to that effect. Would it be safe to move our stuff back now or should we wait?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  4. Hello,

So I am ready to file. Money is saved. And now I'm having second thoughts on cost. Their site says $1070. I read $1010 or $1040. And a second payment of $385 or $400 I think. I just want to make sure I send the right amount and not incur the wrath of anyone. Can anyone confirm the correct amount for me? Along with the usual stuff, doc report etc., I am sending:

    I-485

    G-325A

    AOS 213A

    I-864A

    Application for Travel Document

    I-130

    I'd appreciate any clarifications.

  5. Hello,

This is my first post to this site. I am Canadian. My wife and daughter are American (daughter is actually dual citizen) and while visiting the mother-in-law at x-mas my wife decided she wanted to stay. So here we are in Texas getting ready to do the I-485. My mother back in Montreal has offered to pay the fee, but I can't seem to get any info on how best to do this from the local office.

She's offered her Credit Card, but will they just accept numbers? Should she put money in my account? Send a check?

Anyone with information will earn my eternal gratitude.
