  1. Hello -

I have a very simple question: how will I know when the NVC has assigned us a case #? Will the NVC contact me in addition to the beneficiary? The NOA2 I received states that "The NVC will contact the person for whom you are petitioning (beneficiary) concerning further immigrant visa processing steps." It does not say anything about contacting me.

Here's the problem: the beneficiary (my husband) is in the military service and is currently posted away where he cannot receive mail. Also, his address on the I-130 has changed. I will need the NVC to send me everything, and I can route it to him. Any advice?

    Thanks.

  2. Hello -

I am a USC. My husband is a UKC, currently serving in the British military. I filed the I-130 petition in September 2014. We are still waiting for approval. It is likely that the petition will move to the NVC (and consulate) before my husband is discharged. (He has an official discharge date, which can be confirmed by the military.)

My understanding is that the NVC (and London Consulate) will require a copy of his military records, which includes his discharge certificate. However, as previously stated, he will not yet be discharged.

Has anyone run across this situation before, and if so, what the impact is on the visa process and issuance where the beneficiary currently serves in a foreign military? All the documentation requirements speak with the presumption that the beneficiary has had prior military service.

    Thanks.
