  1. To all the wise and selfless/helpful people out there,

I'm a USC living in the UK for nearly 3.5 years. My husband and I are currently working on getting his family based Immigrant Visa over here and I've got a couple questions on the I-864. FYI, I am having my father as joint sponsor since I don't make the US income minimum.

    Part 6.

Do I check self-employed or unemployed as I currently live in the UK and don't have current job prospects in the US? My income currently comes from various businesses as a freelancer, so do I still consider myself to be self-employed once I'm back in the US, or would it be considered different employment because I'm in a different country and most likely working with different clients?

I'm not currently earning money in the US do I list myself with $0 for income, but should I supplement with an additional letter stating my income in the UK or show my UK tax returns? Under part 6 item 14 do I show my UK tax returns in addition to the one required US tax return for the most recent year solely to prove I’m earning money?

    Part 7.

Does it still make sense to fill out my assets even if they don't reach the 5x difference between my income ($0) and 125% poverty guideline for a 2 person household (which would be $98,310) in assets? Is this calculation correct? I am currently counting money I have in my US back account, as well as US bonds that haven't mature yet, can I count any money I have in the UK? UK money can be changed to cash, but if I were to list it would I inform with the current UK value, or would I do a preliminary currency conversion to get an estimate of what the US $ value would be?

  2. Do not take a blank one to interview if you will not be there. The form is supposed to be signed after being completed.

If you filed the 1040 then you put in total income, even if the number is negative. If you filed 1040EZ then you put in adjusted gross income.

It MUST match the values from the tax return transcript.

I've just looked through my most recent 1040 form and if living abroad would it make sense to have my total income as 1? Don't want to fill out 0 incorrectly. Thanks!
