  1. I have a variation on this question - my parents from Canada have been approved for a green card and have received their visa packet. They are not planning to move until the Spring, but they would like to visit the USA in the meantime. Can they just enter as normal (with their passport but not submitting the packet) until they are ready to move, or would it be better to submit the packet on the first visit, then start the clock ticking on the 6 months to move permanently? (Assuming they would re-enter the USA the next time using the temporary I-551 in their passport.

    Any help appreciated - thanks!

  2. I used the check off list they gave me in the first letter from NVC. I also used the Manila Embassy letter you can download from the department of state website.

Lastly I had a local drop it off. Ours is ready April 4th to be picked up.

Great, thanks for your reply. I found the checklist that you mentioned in the NVC Welcome Letter. Also found the letter that needs to be attached stating that the CoC is needed:

We're going to get the rest of the documentation (fingerprints, etc) and try the mail route.

  3. I'm in the same situation with my parents. They need a police certificate from Singapore, but applying for one requires a checklist which you only get from the NVC if you submit incomplete documents. It seems like a catch 22.

What did you end up doing? The only option seems to be to submit incomplete documents, wait for the checklist, then apply for the Singapore police certificate. But that seems like a lengthy process.

  4. Hi all - I didn't find any existing topics on this, apologies if it is a repeat.

I am in the process of bringing my parents from Vancouver down to Seattle on a green card. We recently got our welcome letter from the NVC stating that the interview would be held in Montreal. This was surprising because we were expecting Vancouver, but some further research indicated that the Vancouver consulate is no longer processing immigrant visas. :(

One other idea that popped to mind was whether it is possible to do the interview in the US. Having my parents drive down to Seattle would be much easier/cheaper than going out to Montreal. However, I couldn't find any advice on whether this is possible so I'm hoping someone on this forum can help.

    Thanks in advance!
